Design Decisions
Section - 2
Nature of Decisions taken
The design decisions involved in the creation of this OER were of broadly three types:
1. Pedagogic Decisions
2. Content Decisions
3. Technology Decisions
Pedagogic Decisions Typically in a flipped classroom strategy, there are two segments – Out-of-class segment and In-
Class segment.
In our out-of-class segment students requires to watch 12 videos and understand about the
concepts of Quality..
In terms of concept marking the pedagogic decisions that were taken for the Out-of-class
segment related to:
a. Cognitive Levels of Questions to be asked along with the resources – Mostly Recall to
Apply level question for out of class and Create Level question for In-class
b. Assessment Strategies – Multiple choice questions for out of class
For concept clarity and for checking the level of understanding of students, we have designed
quizzes and/or assignments for each video. Activity based learning facilitate the concept clarity.
All the videos can be used for out-class-activity.
In terms of concept clarity and checking the level of understanding pedagogic decisions that
were taken for the in-class segment:
a. Team-Pair-Share
b. Peer instruction strategy Content Decisions We have selected a topic from TQM course. The topic is on “Quality” which is very basic
OER Document
Moodle Course on Total Quality Management using flipped classroom technique Page 7
concept of TQM. With our experience we found that the students face difficulty in understanding this concept in normal classroom teaching and they finds the course very difficult. We have covered the following topics:
Different definitions of Quality by various thinkers
Concept of Brand,
Different Parameters for ascertaining quality,
Dimensions of product and service in quality
Customer orientation, continuous improvement
Cost of Quality
Productivity and flexibility
approaches and philosophies of TQM
Above mentioned topics cover all the basic concepts of Total Quality Management. For activity-based learning, we have provided the quizzes and/or assignments for all the above mentioned topics. Technology Decisions While developing the Out-of-Class and In-class activities, the major technology decisions taken
were:
Content Management System: www.wordpress.com for dissemination of course
Learning Management System: www.gnomio.com for creating MOODLE Lesson
Activity for setting up Out-of-Class segment as it allowed guided self-learning. PowerPoint for creating presentations for in class activities of the course content Word for documentation purpose www.youtube.com for videos

Evaluating Effectiveness of OER
Section - 4 How this OER is effective?
To make OER effective we have included Videos, Quizzes and/or Assignments based on the
videos followed by Power Point presentations giving details of in-class activity like Think-Pair-
Share and Peer Instructions. Duration of almost all the videos is less than 10 minutes. Videos of
less than 10 minutes duration to make them easily understandable and are easily comprehensible
to the users. Quizzes and/or assignments are helpful for determining the level of concept clarity.
OER is developed using MOODLE and is disseminated using word press which are very user
friendly. This OER is also useful for the teaching fraternity. Effectiveness of OER can be checked at two levels:
Student Level Consumer Level
At the Student Level On the basis of quizzes and assignment submission based on OER and feedback of OER, we can check the effectiveness of OER. Following are the methods which can be used for checking the effectiveness of OER:
In case of website by tracking the number of viewers and feedback about MOODLE course, effectiveness of OER created can be checked.
We can ask the student to submit their assignment within the given time limit and can
check the uses and effectiveness with their marks they got on the basis of quiz.
The Moodle lesson report can be used to evaluate this effectiveness, with the report showing the total number of students who accessed the course (along with time) and their marks (based on their answers to MCQs).
Additionally there is an option for teacher to grade assignments and these marks also will be calculated if needed.
At the Consumer Level Our OER consumers are teachers of mechanical engineering fraternity, who want their students to learn concept of TQM. Linking a survey on three main constructs – Ease of Use, Concept Coverage and Concept Complexity, can help in identifying the effectiveness of this OER at consumer level. This has to be done as a follow-up activity. Implementing Survey: We can ask for the e-mail id of the users, get details of user and then send the questionnaire to them for feedback on the basis of course coverage, complexity.

Building a Community of MOODLE and Flipped Classroom
Adaptors
Section - 6
Possible Sources for Community Building
Some of the viable sources for building a community are:
1. Teachers of the Mechanical Engineering Fraternity.
2. Teachers who are using the MOODLE.
3. Teachers who plan to use Flipped Classroom Strategies.
Plans for Community Building
Wordpress is an online, open source website creation tool written in PHP. It is probably the easiest and most powerful blogging and website Content Management System (CMS) in existence today. Wordpress is an Open Source, which means there are hundreds of people all over the world working on it. In Wordpress we can simply create a community of the same domain. In community we can share the latest researches, book reviews and create a blog on any topic related to same domain. For accessing the MOODLE course users are required to provide their email id. Thus there will be a list of interested users whom we can follow up using email. All the interested users can then be connected using a local Wordpress or Moodle website.
