PDSD (An Introduction)
• The internet is a huge place.
• Each place you visit leaves a footprint.
• Making a plan for that footprint is your PDSD.
• Your PDSD will travel with you even after get a job.

Step 1. Paint a Picture of Your Digital Self
• There are many ways to find out where you are online.
• Of course, Google yourself, but make sure to use different spellings of your name and city.
• Put the results in a document; this is the beginning of your PDSD.
• Mark the actions to take on the results you find.

Beyond Privacy Settings• Besides Facebook and
Twitter, there are profiles you have online from banks, churches, newspapers, coffee shops, and stores.
• Each account has its footprint - especially where you make comments.
• Make a list of every site you've joined or comment on and place it in your PDSD with desired action for each.

Step 2. Go Where the Fish Are• Along with knowing where you are,
try to understand where you need to be.
• Find mentors or peers in your desired industry and take note of where they are.
• Make a list of trade associations and networks to insert into your PDSD.
• If you are not already on LinkedIn, make sure you make your profile there a first priority.

Participate in Conversations• Make a list of people who have
jobs that are similar to your goals
• Like a party, listen to people you respect in your field, watch what they post, see what they find worthy.
• Contribute to the conversation by leaving comments, answering online questions, helping your peers and mentors.
• New networks appear every day.

Step 3. Build a Trusted Brand• Know your audience/content.
• Become a trusted curator.
• Create a hub for your online presence (blog, website, etc...)
• Examine your PDSD regularly to update your goals as you learn more.
• Measure the impact of your messages using link tracking and Google analytics.
