The way humans manage water :

Now since we are all part of the system and because we are stuck inthe day to day chores of life , we hardly get any time to notice thistransition. This is the reality now where we are forced to turn to thesea for our water. So at the end of all this , we have achieved two

things water scarcity and conversion of water to a commodity andnothing more.

We multiply in numbers and industrialize everything and create morewater demand. We then drain all rivers , lakes, wells etc for this extra

demand. When the water becomes scarce, we start put tingmonetary value to water and start collecting money for usage. Onceequated to money , water is no longer a right for allpeople rather , now people who have more money have more rightsto use or in other terms buy it. This means people who have moneycan use it, without thinking about scarcity. Finally we reach astage where everyone demands for water with money andthen we decide that the rivers and lakes are inadequate or in otherterms nature has not given enough for us. We decide it is up

to us to come up with solutions and we invent desalination ofsea water. With industrial production we make water even morecostly and we now create pollution, just for producing water itself.

The entire insect community is vital to ensure reproduction of plants and trees . Since trees are the ones giving us oxygen , insectsthus play an indirect role in maintaining the life support of the planet. Butwith the indiscriminate spraying of pesticides we are threatening the veryframework on which the continuity of the natural world is based. justifies my view of the mass media being able to give you a

illussion of fantasy .

First and foremost the extinctions caused by humans is totally

different because that it involves total removal of a species

including it's replacements and even the ecosystem itself.

For example when we drain the wetlands all across the country

all the species that inhabit the wetlands are gone and is not

replaced by another species . In simple words we kill by removing

the habitat itself and hence there is no oppurchunity of new life .Simply life does not grow on concrete !

There were mass extinctions in the history of the planet before

and afterall we do not have dinosours now. So what is the big

deal ? species come and go and that is part of the natural cycle of

life. Infact the current variety oflife is estimated to be only 1% of

all the species that ever lived on the planet . While this argument

looks sound for the average person to use it as a justification for

the plunder of the planet , it fails miserably when we just look at

it deeper.

One simple proof for the fact that world is dying is the reality

that species all across the world are getting extinct . The rate

of extinctions are so high that it is predicted that we will loose

half of the world species by the year 2050 !

Further the current rate of extinction is thousands of times faster

than ever before.

Quite simply the life force is moving away from the planet .

Frankly it really hurts me that life is replaced with concrete but

nonetheless it seems tthat is what we want !

in simple words a species becomes extinct because the habitat is

no longer suitable to sustain it. If species are going extinct all the

time then does it tell you that the planet is losing its life.

Remember that the planet is just rocks and gases and it the

actions of the fellow inhabitants that made the planet

hospitable. If we are losing them then what do we expect for the

future ?We are ignoring such a basic fact of life as we havebecome obcessed with economic growth. The land we have

can sustain only a certain amount of life in a healthy way and

anything more than that can only come at the expense of

another. we might now exploit the fellow animals of the planet

for now but soon it will between us .Oops ...Sorry ...we are

already exploiting ourselves for the sake of ourselves.

We have become so much alienated from the natural world that weknow nothing about it. With ignorance comes fear of unknown.So we have reached a stage where even harmless little jumpingspiders like the one above which is less than 0.5cm , are dangerous

and are supposed to squashed at the mere sight of them. If thereis bee squash it. If there is a cockroach squash it. This seems to bethe attitude we all carry. In the initial times humans were afraidof certain aspects of the natural world after all , like all animals wewere also part of the food chain. We were afraid of tigers, leopardsetc. Now with them no longer posing any threat we haveresorted to the timid ones . we kill snakes on sight even withoutknowing whether they are venomous are not. Even if they arevenomous we hardly ever know their behavior . If we had known

their behavior we would have known that none of them bite uswithout any provocation.

Right now it is almost like we are finding an excuse to kill some thing,Now we are advertised that soil contain germs and hence it isdangerous. Of course soil contains germs but they do not tell us thatwe have inbuilt immunity for it. We are shown computergenerated characters as germs showing that they planning to hurt

humans. We might think these do not affect our decisions butthink how much we changed over the last few years.

Animals in the wild are perfectlycapable of finding their ownfood and if some particular

individual is not able to doso , it perishes. That is theway the species is kepthealthy as a whole. Wehumans destroy their naturalhabitat and build our ownstructures thus denying them places to forage for food.So what do we do ? Give

themhandouts and call ourselveskind hearted ! We cangive N number of reasons like nature lovers, kindhearted, personal relaxation,personal belief that they are our ancestors etc but thefact is our feeding habit hasmany hidden

consequences. First and the most obvious is that itcreates dependency on us.The less obvious one is that ofcompetition. Not all speciesof the birds come to gethandouts , so the ones whichcome tend to fare better asthey are well fed now. Also

these well fed ones ,reproducemore than the others.

Ever wondered why crows are all over the place to the extent that wecan hardly see other birds? Crows have simply adapted tohuman feeding and leftovers and hence multiplied in numbers.These well fed birds in most times compete with others for nestingplaces and are more successful . Wild animals are not beggars at the mercy of humans. Unlike us , when they look at the

world around them , they know where to get the food.

Our pathetic communication system :

We use language to communicate with each other and we are so proud

of inventing language that we use it as one of the differentiators

to tell ourselves that we are superior than animal world. If the goal of

communication is getting the other person the message in thesame way you perceive it , then our system of words is pathetic. I

am saying pathetic because the words are subjective and carry

different depths of meaning from one person to another.

When I say I love nature I actually mean I am ready to die for it and I

have heard other people use the same line but their meaning of love

goes only until taking a picture in the mountain top. When I meet this

person I can say the line and he can say the same line to me, but is themeaning same ? Do you have any idea how we can overcome this

fundamental flaw in our word based communication system ?

We can think something, act some other way and tell something and the

other person will not even know about it. In case the same thing happens

in the world of dogs the situation would be entirely dfferent.

Hypothetically if one dog which is not well tells another dog that it is

fine, the other dog would immediately know it is false because it can

sense the changes in the other dog. It notices smell, body language etc

and not just the sound from the other dogs mouth. Can we ever do this ?

When a dogs language is a combination of smell, body postures,

behavior pattern, sound etc how can we ever boast ourselves that we

imparted wisdom and not just data.

What we are getting through the current system of education is

just infomation which is thaught by people who are themselves

clueless. I am not degrading teachers of today . I am just

pinpointing the sad reality , where teachers , who should have

been the most respected people in the society are now reduced

to a lower level because of the concept of economics. Ideally

the most brilliant minds should be the one's training the most

young one's since the future depends on the young one' but in

the modern economic scenario the entire thing is upside down.

The most brilliant minds are now made to chase after money in

some MNC's and only the one's who have little or no option

come to teaching because teachers are paid less.

Recently I saw a mass stunt orchestrated by so called earth loversby the way of earth hour. All the people of the world are

supposed to switch off everything for one hour and thereby they aregiving a symbolic gesture to reduce energy usage. What a joke ! Firstand foremost if you want to do it, do it for real ,daily, not givegestures. Secondly the real issue in energy usage is actuallyrampant consumerism and only after that comes the actual energyusage of the appliance. Nokia did a study and found that 70% ofenergy consumed by a phone in its life time does not come fromusage but from the manufacturing process itself.

Deflecting the issue :

Think for yourself - where do you think the materials used for

manufacturing the phone comes from ? Doesn't mining involveenergy ? Why are we ignoring the issue all together ? If we all were touse the same phone for our lifetime itself much of our wastefulenergy usage will be reduced. But can we do that ? We all wantiphone 1 to 5 and what ever that comes next ! I am not sayingswitching o does not do any good , I am just saying we are nottackling the main problem. It is not by chance we are ignoring it ratherwe are deliberately manip ulated by the media to avoid anything thatquestions consumerism. When are we going to act like a grownup and

start asking the right questions ?
