Luke 6:27 & 28 On our "Radical Sayings of Jesus" series...Let's face it, Jesus said a lot of "crazy" things that sounded very foolish to the world, like “Don’t worry about anything!” and “Deny yourself and take up your cross!” Further- more, Jesus said some hard things like, “Not everyone who says ‘Lord, Lord’ will en- ter the kingdom of God.” In other words, Jesus doesn’t always tell us what we want to hear. But that’s a part of love, too, isn’t it? Our parents, friends, teachers and coaches who have loved us have sometimes had to say some things that were maybe hard for us to hear at the time, but helped us to grow. Similarly, our hope and prayer is that this series was a blessing for your faith journey. A BIG thank you to Tanja Nelson….for her years of service here at FC as our Director of Communications. As most of you know from the ENews, Tanja has prayerfully decided to step down from her staff position to spend more time with her family. We truly believe that Tanja has developed one of the most attractive church newsletters around and increasingly we hear comments about how much people looked forward to her weekly "blog" that came with our Thursday ENews. Certainly we've been blessed by Tanja's creativity and heart, passion and sense of humor! While we will miss her daily laughter ringing through the hallways (and her yummy coffee!), we certainly respect her decision and we're thrilled that she'll continue to serve with worship teams and her wonderful "Women, Wine and the Word" on Wednesday evenings. On our search for a new worship leader…We believe we’ve been blessed to re- ceive a number of strong candidates for the worship leader position, but we know this is a big decision for FC so we’re moving with a lot of prayer and care. At the end of June we were blessed to have Jeremy Sears lead our worship, and by this reading we will have been blessed to have Josh & Linsy Dockter from Grand Forks lead our worship. Linsy is also interested in our DC position recently vacated by Tan- ja. As always, we deeply appreciate your prayers and your feedback. On our 5 th of July “CoffeeHouse” Sunday...as you know, we enjoy trying new things here at FC. Particularly with reference to our vision “to reach the next generation” we want to be bold in offering new and different worship opportunities. We all know that Sundays are no longer sacred here in America and consequently Sunday morning worship services are now competing more than ever with sports, travel and work. We’ve all heard many say, “Sunday’s my only morning to sleep in,” so here’s a NEW option! Join us on Sunday evenings at 5:30 for worship CoffeeHouse style! SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT Mark Bergeland, Stewardship Committee The Apostle Paul’s second letter to the church in Corinth gives us great insight into our responsibilities and rewards as faithful stewards of the gifts that God entrusts to us:

“Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.

Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves

a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you

will abound in every good work. As it is written:

“They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures forever.” 10 Now He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will

enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. 11 You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every

occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.” (2 Corinthians 9:6-11)

It inspires me to observe how faithful Christians through the ages have taken this message of stewardship to heart and woven it into the fabric of their daily lives. I always enjoy reading memorable quotes from people of faith whose opinions I respect. Here are some that give me something to think about: “I have held many things in my hands, and I have lost them all. But whatever I have placed in God’s hands, that I still possess.” —

Martin Luther (1483-1546), German reformer and theologian

“If a person gets his attitude toward money straight, it will help straighten out almost every other area in his life.” — Billy Graham

(1918-), American evangelist “You hear a lot of strange things about tithing. Some say it is a church tax, and they expect me to pay it and that is the end of it.

Others say that when I give God one-tenth of my income, He blesses the nine-tenths that is left to the extent that the

nine-tenths now goes as far as the whole thing used to go. This isn’t really true, is it? Suppose a farmer had 100 bushels of

corn in the barn and he decides to plant 10 bushel in the ground. What multiplies? Is it the 90 bushels that he has left in the

barn? Oh, no. All of us ‘farmers’ know it is the 10 bushels you put in the ground that multiplies. Similarly, it is the 10 percent

you give to God that multiplies.” — Stanley Tam (1915-), American businessman and philanthropist

“We make a living by what we get; we make a life by what we give.” — Winston Churchill (1874-1965), British wartime prime

minister and statesman

“You have not lived until you have done something for someone who can never repay you.” — John Bunyan (1628-88), English

Puritan writer and preacher

“I do not believe one can settle how much we ought to give. I am afraid the only safe rule is to give more than we can spare. In

other words, if our expenditure on comforts, luxuries, amusements, etc., is up to the standard common among those with the

same income as our own, we are probably giving away too little. If our charities do not at all pinch or hamper us, I should

say they are too small. There ought to be things we should like to do and cannot do because our charitable expenditures

exclude them.” — C.S. Lewis (1898-1963), English author and scholar

“Give me five minutes with a person’s checkbook, and I will tell you where their heart is.” — Billy Graham (1918-), American

evangelist “A man there was, and they called him mad; the more he gave, the more he had.” — John Bunyan (1628-88), English Puritan

writer and preacher

“In all of my years of service to my Lord, I have discovered a truth that has never failed and has never been compromised. That

truth is that it is beyond the realm of possibilities that one has the ability to out give God. Even if I give the whole of my worth

to Him, He will find a way to give back to me much more than I gave.” — Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834-92), English

Baptist preacher

“Giving is more than a responsibility—it is a privilege; more than an act of obedience—it is evidence of our faith.”

— William Arthur Ward (1921-94), American educator

“The heart of a giver makes the gift dear and precious.” — Martin Luther (1483-1546), German reformer and theologian

“As base a thing as money often is, yet it can be transmuted into everlasting treasure. It can be converted into food for the

hungry and clothing for the poor. It can keep a missionary actively winning lost men to the light of the gospel and thus

transmute itself into heavenly values. Any temporal possession can be turned into everlasting wealth. Whatever is given to

Christ is immediately touched with immortality.” — A.W. Tozer (1897-1963), American pastor and writer

“Stewardship is the act of organizing your life so that God can spend you.” — Lynn A. Miller, author

Pastor’s Perspective, Continued...

On our vision “to reach the next generation…Wow, God has

really blessed our summer! Nearly 50 kids were at the middle

school lock-in at the very beginning of the summer, then

about 15 young adults (including our Steve & Tom!) joined

Lucas for the June Haiti Mission trip. Here’s what one of the

team members had to say; “There is no other way to de-

scribe what I experienced other than a week filled by the

love of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This was a time that

has greatly impacted my life and will forever have a place

in my heart!!” Last Friday our 30 youth returned from their

CHIC conference and Sundau we had nearly 40 attend our

Sundau night Fire-Up gathering. Monday morning we had

nearly 100 kids raising a storm in song as VBS began with

over 45 visitors! Thanks be to God!

The Spirit is stirring! Pastor Dan

August 16

It’s been a busy spring and summer for the Missions and Outreach ministries at Faith Community! God has blessed us with multiple opportunities to be His Hands and Feet in Haiti and Ecuador.

I absolutely love my new role as the Next Generations and Missions Pastor at Faith. It’s been great to continue casting vision and providing leadership and oversight for the Youth ministry, but God has placed a huge calling on my heart to do missions, as well.

It has been amazing to be able to develop more local and global missions and outreach opportunities for our church. I have been so excited by what God is doing in our Missions ministry at Faith. People always ask me, "Lucas, why do you do so many trips to Haiti?" Well, the answer is this - I believe God does incredible things in the lives of the people who go and serve on these trips. I have witnessed the transformation as they see God in an incredible way while they step out of their comfort zones and rely solely on their Faith. They are hugely affected by the outpouring of love they receive from the Haitians we serve. The people who go on these trips come back better fathers, better mothers, better sons and daughters, and most importantly, they come home better followers of Jesus.

Faith Community is truly making a difference doing the work of God by continuing to build relationships and trust with the Haitians, continuing to provide support and relief to the orphans at the FREM Orphan-age, and by partnering with Heartline, who's main focus is to help create a way for Haitians to keep and raise their children, resulting in less orphans in Haiti.

I don't look at missions trips as a one week experience. These trips are a week of training for people to be better disciples for the other 51 weeks of the year, and for the rest of their lives. Heartline International has been so generous to pay for my trips to Haiti! This makes it more affordable for our Missions ministry to take multiple trips to Haiti throughout the year. Serving Along Side You, Lucas Kinser

April/June Haiti Mission Trips updatesApril/June Haiti Mission Trips updatesApril/June Haiti Mission Trips updatesApril/June Haiti Mission Trips updates The past two Haiti trips have been awesome! We continued to do work at the FREM orphanage, expanding to a few other orphanages. I am always amazed by how accepting they are of our love, and how much love they show to us! These kids have every reason not to smile. The kids in one orphanage live in some of the worst conditions I have ever seen, yet they have the biggest smiles, and are so loving towards us! I'm often reminded that even though they

don't have material things, they often have a faith and trust in God that is much deeper and vibrant than we often have as American Christians. The last two mission teams have also ministered to youth in prison, unloaded two semi trucks filled with 30,000 + boxes of food, painted buildings at Heartline properties, helped in a school with children from City Soleil, played soccer with a local fishing family, worshiped with Haitians in Chambon, and much more! Thank you to everyone who supports these trips! If you are interested in joining in one of these life changing

experiences to Haiti, contact Lucas Kinser. We will be going back to Haiti during Spring Break 2016, and in June 2016. Please pray for our group going to Haiti in September. This team will be working with Heartline, as well as Kidz at Heart ministries.
