The EmpowHer Story

In 2003, community leader Betty LaMarr and a small group ofcommitted women, founded EmpowHer Institute to empowergirls through education, training and mentorship to seek fulfillingand productive lives. We partner with middle and high schoolsthroughout Los Angeles County. Our students are 82% Latina, 13%African-American and 4% Asian. Professional and businesswomen volunteer their time to mentor and support our girls tosucceed.

Betty is passionate about serving others through coaching andmentoring. While living in South Africa, Betty saw the devastatingeffects poverty and powerlessness have on girls and women. She alsosaw what happens when girls and women are offered even modestopportunities for empowerment: Women discover independence, girlsseek education, and life changes for entire families and communitiesare positively altered as the cycle of poverty and dependency isbroken
