The EmpowHer Story

In 2003, community leader Betty LaMarr and a small group ofcommitted women, founded EmpowHer Institute to empowergirls through education, training and mentorship to seek fulfillingand productive lives. We partner with middle and high schoolsthroughout Los Angeles County. Our students are 82% Latina, 13%African-American and 4% Asian. Professional and businesswomen volunteer their time to mentor and support our girls tosucceed.

EmpowHer Institute is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.The EmpowHer Institute vision is to empower girls to designa future that prepares them for tomorrows careers. We willreduce the high school dropout rate for teen girls who areat risk. of educational failure. Our strategy is to empowerthem to demonstrate self-worth and character; discovertheir future through education and mentorship and;become leaders of tomorrow.

She alsosaw what happens when girls and women are offered even modestopportunities for empowerment: Women discover independence, girlsseek education, and life changes for entire families and communitiesare positively altered as the cycle of poverty and dependency isbroken
