A special assembly was held last Friday at the Sadadeen campus
to acknowledge the 2010 Dux of the College, Sam Heckathorn,
and to present the College and campus leaders with their badges
of office. Sam was unable to attend the ceremony; he is
currently in West Africa working as a volunteer at a Mission
station. However, it was good to welcome his mother, Mrs Susan Heckathorn,
who received Sam’s awards, on behalf of the family. Our congratulations go to
Sam on this marvellous achievement.
At the same gathering, the 2011 College leaders; Dean Ryan and Rebecca
Crack (Captains) and Michael McGuirk and Alanna Breedon (Vice-Captains)
were presented with their badges, along with the House Captains, House Vice-
Captains, and Student Representative Council members. All Year 12 students
were also provided with a ‘senior’s’ badge to recognise the importance of their
last year of secondary schooling. Our Year 12 students are currently on retreat
and they will conclude this special time away from normal classes tomorrow
afternoon. Thank you to Mrs Vicky Howie and to the other staff members who
organised the retreat programme for the students.
The Blue and Gold groups of REMAR took part in their first camp for the year
over last weekend. Thank you to Mr Michael Knight, Mr Peter Augustin and
Ms Lyndal England for coordinating the program. Students involved in the
REMAR program make a valuable contribution to our school community and it
is good to see the sizeable number of students involved for this year. Last
Friday the REMAR students organised a fund-raising cake sale for the
Queensland Flood Appeal, at each of the campuses.
The regular schedule of meetings for the College Advisory Board commenced
with a first gathering on last Monday evening, 14th February. The Board is an
important group and involves a cross-section of our school and local
community. It provides a forum for planning, discussion and review of all
facets that effect the management and running of the College. The Annual
General Meeting of the Board will be held on Monday, 14th March.
Another key group for the College is the Parents’ and Friends’ Association
which will hold its first meeting for the year on next Tuesday, 22nd February, at
the Sadadeen campus library at 7.30pm.

Reflection
During 2010 the Association hosted a number of College gatherings and also raised many thousands of dollars to
finance several College projects, such as the provision of interactive whiteboards at Bath Street, the installation of
curtains in several classrooms at Traeger, and new ovens for the Home Economics’ kitchen at the Sadadeen campus.
The Annual General Meeting of the Association will be held Thursday, 17th March.
Best wishes
Br Paul Gilchrist
Kindly note that College Students are only
supervised between the following hours:
Bath St Campus 8:00am to 3:20pm
Traeger and Sadadeen Campus 7:55am to 3:20pm
Please bear these times in mind when
dropping off or picking up your children.
This day, Father, may my eyes be opened to see the beauty in all that is ordinary - yet special - around me. May the glory of all that you have made remind me of your presence and lead me closer to you.
Campus News: Bath St This week has been a busy one with swimming in Years 3
and 4 and lots of teaching and learning happening in the
classroom. We are very fortunate not to be in Darwin at the
moment, although two of the College staff are "stuck"
there until Saturday afternoon due to the airport being
closed and a backlog of passengers trying to get out.
SWIMMING
The Year 3 and 4 classes finish swimming tomorrow and
the Year 1 and 2 classes commence next Monday. The
lessons have been going well thanks to the instructors and
the class teachers. Thank you Mr Typuszak for his organi-
sation and a special thank you to Miss Nertney who filled
in on Wednesday afternoon.
TRANSITION TIMES
Next week the Transition children will stay on campus for
lunch and go home at 2.00pm. The following week (Week
6) they will stay all day.
KISS'N'GO
We have had to circulate a note to all the families who use
the Kiss'n'Go. The Council rangers have advised us that the
time for warnings is now over and they will begin fining
motorists who disregard the traffic rules regarding the
Kiss'n'Go. The police are also active around this area so
please be safe and courteous and obey all traffic rules.
MERIT POINT WINNERS
Congratulations to the following students who have col-
lected prizes from the Merit Point table.

Campus News: Sadadeen YR12 RETREAT
As you read this newsletter the Yr 12 students are
participating in their retreat experience at Desert Palms
resort. Many thanks goes to Mrs Vicky Howie for her
organisation, Br Paul, Br Mark, Jon Raveney, Rebecca
Smith, Michael Boyce, Evelyn Gaces & Veronica Perez,
members of staff who have given up their time to journey
with the Yr 12’s on their retreat.
CASUAL CLOTHES DAY
Next Friday 25th February is the first casual clothes day for
the year. Students who choose to wear casual clothes are
expected to make a ‘Gold Coin’ donation. Unfortunately
students do choose to wear casual clothes but they don’t pay
the donation. This should not be the case! Students should
also dress appropriately for normal classes and for
appropriate sun protection. Students not wearing appropriate
clothing will be sent home to change. Parents, please make
sure your child is dressed appropriately and has their gold
coin donation.
SADADEEN SWIMMING CARNIVAL
Friday March 4th at the Alice Springs Town Pool. Mr Peter
Augustin is available for queries about the carnival.
REMAR
A big thank you to all the Blue & Gold rowers who
participated in the ‘Embarkation Camp’ last weekend at
Campfire in the Heart. Thanks also goes to Mr Michael
Knight, Mr Peter Augustin, Miss Lyndal England, Miss Ellis
Black, Miss Stephanie Johannson, Miss Stacy Mutuota and
the Red rowers who helped out.
UNIFORM
Most students wear the College uniform well. Friday is the
only day permitted to wear the sports uniform. The sports
polo top or college approved tops can be worn. Non
college baseball caps are not to be worn. We have a set
college cap. Lace up black shoes are expected from Monday
til Thursday and lace up runners on Fridays. Uniform
expectations are clearly set out in the diary. If you are unsure
please refer to the appropriate section in the diary.
Have a good week ahead.
Matt de Jong.
Head of Campus – Sadadeen.
REMAR NEWS
Remar has kicked off the year with a strong start, raising
over $1000 dollars for the QLD flood appeal. Then on the
weekend 35 Blue and Gold Remar students attended their
embarkation camp at campfire in the heart.
It was a great weekend facilitated by two Remar Gap leaders
from Melbourne, Jake and Jazz. The students participated in
workshops, played games and learnt about the Remar
journey ahead of them this year. Remar Blue students will be
going to Santa Teresa later in the year. And Remar Gold’s
will be completing their final year of high school. Remar
Red’s have also started their program for the year. Overall
a great year is ahead for everyone!
Campus News: Traeger TRAEGER PARISH MASS
This is scheduled for March 6th at 9:30am. It is an
expectation that students attend this one off celebration
within the parish community. Only our student leaders are
expected to wear full school uniform, others, casual.
ASSEMBLIES On our even weeks our assembly will be held at 12:15pm.
All assemblies begin with a prayer focus from a home
group which may be your childs group. All parents are
encouraged to attend the assemblies, simply sign in at the
front office and move to the hall for a 12:15pm start.
In the odd weeks students undertake Pastoral Care
Activities with their class group.
VISITING THE CAMPUS
All are welcome to visit our campus but all visitors must
sign in and obtain a visitors pass from the front office.
This assists us with many safety aspects.
STUDENT PICK UP AND DROP OFF
Please keep in mind that students are not to use or cross the
campus car park in the morning or afternoon. There are
gates either side of the car park to enter and exit the
campus. Unless there are medical reasons parents are asked
not to use the car park to drop off and pick up their child, it
was not designed for this purpose and students are not to
be in this area. Thankyou.
BIKE HELMETS
Just a quick reminder - students who ride home will not be
allowed to leave the campus if they are not wearing a
helmet. The student will be directed to the front office to
contact parents to discuss further options. As a side note :
students not wearing a helmet are not covered by
insurance.

NUTS – NO FOR TRAEGER Due to students with severe allergies on our campus any nut
or nut products are not to be brought to school. Please!
HOMEWORK CENTRES
TRAEGER CAMPUS HOMEWORK CENTRE
All students are welcome to attend Traeger’s Homework
Centre; however, you need a Traeger Homework Centre
card. To get a card, all you need to do is get a form from the
front office, read it, fill it out and return it after it has been
signed by parents/guardians. It’s that simple!
Where: Traeger Library
When: Thursday 3.00 – 4.00pm
INDIGENOUS HOMEWORK CENTRE
This will begin next week on Wednesday and Thursday.
The session goes from 3:00 – 4:00pm and will be held in
the 6.2 home room. Students attending will be bussed
home. Please note the change from Monday to the
Wednesday.
YEAR 5 HOMEWORK CENTRE
This is on Wednesday’s 3:00-4:00pm. It is held in our
library where the students must be collected from. Please
pick up your child by 4:00pm.
Obviously there are many opportunities for students of our
campus to receive extra help. I encourage students to begin
on a positive note and take advantage of these homework
sessions as help can also be obtained. I would ask that
parents assist us by encouraging their child to attend as well
as being prompt when picking up their child.
OPENING MASS (PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE)
Our opening College Mass is now at the CONVENTION
Centre, on March 18th .All students are to attend school
firstly so that the rolls and homeroom items for the day can
be taken care of prior to leaving. Students will walk to the
Convention Centre and be bussed back. Please check the
newsletter for further details.
LUNCH CRATES
All year levels have access to place their lunches in the cool
room until lunch time. As our students move towards Years
7&8 this offer does not seem very popular. Please
encourage your child to take advantage of this during
morning homeroom.

received their badges and will read the Leadership Pledge at
the opening mass on March 18th.

Nth Qld Cowboys Visit: Many students from both Sadadeen & Traeger Campus
were looking forward to attending a Skills Development
