OLA ModelHorticulturalists/employers (Samoa or Tonga) are trained to become trainers and assessors of competency against NZQA unit standards.

Training is largely focused on identified industry skills required in Samoa, Tonga and or NZ RSE or SWP workplaces.

Training is holistic and integrated with non unit standards linked logically to unit standard topics and generic living, learning and employment skills and leadership skills organised around themes and modules with horticulture. Trainee skills are recognised through on job assessments and Recognition of Prior Learning or Recognition of Current Competency.

PurposeTrainees would commence their training in Samoa or Tonga and be more work ready upon their arrival in NZ or Australia.

As RSE workers in NZ they would continue their training on the job and return to Samoa or Tonga and have the opportunity to resume their training in horticulture or business thereby using/developing their knowledge and skills in horticulture and business.

For local people who are not participating in the RSE or SWP scheme but who are interested in gaining more knowledge and skills, in-country

OLA training is from levels 1 to 5 and would be established over the five year period.
