German law requires that you carry an official ID at all times. Make a copy of your passport to bring with you to the festival. Keep your cell phone, money, and hotel address on you and well protected. Taking beer mugs from the Oktoberfest tents is considered a criminal offense. You can purchase them from vendors at the Oktoberfest area. Don’t forget – Bavarian beer is much stronger than American beer! Drinking a "Maß" (one liter of beer) is equivalent to drinking about a six-pack of Bud Light! The American Consulate General is a short walk from the subway station Odeonsplatz. At the Odeonsplatz station take exit C, walk straight on Ludwigstrasse to von-der-Tann Strasse, and turn right into von-der-Tann Strasse. Cross von-der-Tann-Strasse and walk down the left side of the street towards the Englischer Garten. The Consulate is located at the corner of von-der-Tann and Königinstrasse.
