The oil spill Killed 11 oil workers and killed a lot of animals and their babies. Dolphins have been giving birth but their babies are dying at the minute. In many ways dolphins are like humans where both mammals and dolphins if they swallow oil they’ll get really sick and a lot die. Same with humans if we swallow oil we will get really sick and some of us will die to. Dolphins are special in their own ways and with this oil spill we won’t be seeing much dolphins any more. And not just one type of dolphin every type will get hurt if this oil spill doesn’t get cleaned up soon.

Susie and a couple of other members are paying hundreds of dollars to help clean up the oil spill. Why because they love animals and wants they found out About dead fish and birds covered in oil they took action and wanted to help right then and there. So far the money their sending and giving is helping a lot. And we found out that human hair helps soak up and oil and other types of fules. We didn’t find out how but we found out that human hair helps.

When an oil spill happens just leave it alone for a while and it will start to break down by natural means. Light oils will disappear more quickly then heavy oils. Contain the spill with booms and collect it from the surface. Use dispersants to break up the oil. Dispersants not only help break up the oil they make it softer and eaiser. Dispersants are a liquid or gas used to disperse small particles in a medium.

Just because oil spills are big and huge or whatever that’s not what you judge them by. Because it’s how much oil spilt and of course not how big it is. Because of where the spill happened it is going to take a lot of work and a lot of extra money. Some people have estimated that it will take years to clean or finish cleaning the spill.

After the oil spills you might spot little pieces of oil clumped up. These pieces of clumped oil are called tar balls. When a spill happens the oil spreads into a thin slick on the water. Then when winds and waves come along they will then tear the oil into smaller pieces. When that is happening the oil will go through a process called “weathering”. The oil that remains turns into thicker and stickier oil then the original oil. Winds and waves will then continue to break up the oil into even smaller pieces.

How Maddie and Stormi would clean up the spill.

We would take human hair from barber shops and tie it to booms and let them float in the oil so it will soak the oil up.
