Assessment of HPAI Control Measures1

OBJECTIVES:

To provide Members

with options of effective

HPAI control measures

with related data or

evidence.

EXPECTED OUTPUT

study and analysis

Providing models or

options for HPAI

control measures with

evidence

Assessment of HPAI Control Measures1

Proposed activities

• Evaluation of AI control measures adopted in Asia

• Study the lessons learnt from AI vaccination

• Comparative analyses for economic and social

impacts of AI control measures

• Preparing options for AI control measures

including application of vaccine (in combination

with other measures, exit strategy etc.)

• Extension/dissemination of the output through

workshop, seminar, training etc.

Preparedness to Zoonotic Influenza2

OBJECTIVES:To improve pandemic

preparedness of Members

by promoting effective

surveillance and

strengthening diagnostic

capacity under multi-

sectoral collaboration

EXPECTED OUTPUTPromote effective surveillance of

AIV in LBM, wild birds, SIV

Strengthen capacity for diagnosis,

detection and/or forecasting of new

strain of influenza virus with

zoonotic nature

Improve pandemic preparedness

of members under multi-sectoral

collaboration

Preparedness to Zoonotic Influenza2

Proposed activities• Surveillance of AI virus (LBM, Wild Birds….)

• Surveillance of Swine Influenza virus

• Provide models for improved management in LBM

• Isolation, identification & characterization of AI/SI viruses & store the

samples in the virus bank of Hokkaido University

• Virological and human serological analyses of AI/SI virus

• Enhance information exchange and sharing amongst members,

including lessons learnt from emergency response to new influenza

virus

• Explore the possibilities to build up Regional Information Network

• Promote contingency planning and pandemic preparedness under

multi-sectoral collaboration

• Organize relevant workshops/seminars/training

Page 12: OIE/JTF Project for Controlling Zoonoses in Asia - OIE Asia-Pacific

2Activities for Jan. – July 2014

• Hold the 1st WG Meeting

• AIV - Field study and monitoring, in collaboration with Hokkaido Uni. and selected

members on the effect of various operational measures in LBM combined with AIV

surveillance

• SIV - Active surveillance on pig farms, with isolation, identification and

characterization of SIV, followed by virological and human serological analyses (Under

the contract with NIAH)

• Study on lessons learnt from incidences like H7N9 and

other zoonotic cases

• Training in collaboration with RL/CC

• Expert group meeting to support above activities

• Prepare activities for August 2014 to July 2015
