Ohio State has a longstanding tradition of offering Buckeyes of

all ages and abilities vibrant summer experiences from June to

August. The university offers fun and engaging activities

including programs in academics, arts, language, literature,

medicine, music, sports, and multi-cultural among others.

We’ve covered it all, from indoor to outdoor activities. The Ohio

Program Description: Imaginations will soar as children ages 3-5 participate in all the best activities Student Life's Recreational Sports has to offer, from gymnastics to story time, crafts to science, and everything in between! Our child-centered program is designed to enhance the development of physical, emotional, social, and intellectual growth through creative and imaginative play, high-energy games, arts and crafts, and other age appropriate activities. This enrichment program will be held at the RPAC and will run for six weeks this summer.

Program Description: Troop & Family Camps were designed so that the entire family can spend a fun-filled weekend together strengthening ties and building camraderie with other military families. Program Description: Participants at 4-H AstroCamp will investigate the solar system, space travel, stars and more with hands-on activities and experiments. Program Description: 4-H Space Adventure Camp is provided in partnership with Ohio 4-H and Marietta College. 44 youth ages 11 to 13 are engaged in a variety of hands-on science lessons featuring physics, chemistry, principles of flight, space travel and rocketry, and computer sciences. Under the supervision of trained teen camp counselors, all youth gain independent living skills by living on a college camp, residing in the dorms, crossing campus for the activities, and engaging in planned recreation to enhance the camp experience. Program Description: The WAW provides sixth through ninth grade youth the opportunity to explore the wonderful world of water. Highly trained (and fun!) instructors lead sessions in aquatic science, canoeing, fishing, kayaking, snorkeling, and SUP. The WAW is held at 4-H Camp Piedmont in Eastern Ohio with many of the activities occurring on beautiful Piedmont Lake.

Program Description: The Office of Student Life's Department of Recreational Sports's Camp Recky offers summer fun for children who have completed kindergarten through eighth grade. Offerings include traditional camps, teen camps and specialty camps such as Kids in the Kitchen, Sports, Diving and Rock Climbing. Camp Name: Girls Reaching to Achieve in Sports and Physics (GRASP) (day camp)

Program Description: The GRASP Summer Camp is a 5 day long day camp for middle school age girls hosted by the Ohio State University Department of Physics Undergraduate Studies Office in coordination with physics faculty, staff, and students. Each day consists of hands-on, interactive physics demonstrations and projects followed by a sporting activity that shows how physics relates to everyday phenomena. Ohio State staff, undergraduate students and graduate students are present at all sessions, to supervise and share their understanding and love of physics with the GRASP participants.

Camp Name: Operation: Military Kids Camp Kelleys Island (residential)

Program Description: OMK offers two simultaneous residential camps, both on Kelleys Island in Lake Erie. Over 70 youth counselors and 40 civillian and military adult staff members operate from the generous contributions of our donors. This camping experience brings military youth from all over the state to participate in community service, build relationships with their peers who share similar experiences, learn resiliency, develop habits for healthy living, and instill pride in being a military kid. Camp Name: Digital Animation: A Technology Mentoring Program for Young Women (day camp) Program Description: Digital Animation: A Technology Mentoring Program for Young Women is a free summer program for girls who have completed or are entering the 7th and 8th grades in central Ohio. For two weeks, the select group of young women works with women mentors using problem-solving skills and collaborative learning to create digital animation. The program is offered by the Advanced Computing Center for Arts and Design (ACCAD), a research center in The Ohio State University's College of Arts and Sciences and one of the premiere animation education centers in the world.


Exclusions or Prerequisites: There is an application process for acceptance into the program. The application includes an applicant essay, a visual problem solved by the applicant and a teacher recommendation. Generally there are more applicants than open spots. Applications are made available in January and due back in March. Check site for specific dates.

Camp Name: Women in Engineering GROW (day camp)

Program Description: WiE GROW is a five-day, non-residential summer program for young women entering 8th grade in Fall 2014. The program is held on The Ohio State University's Columbus campus. Participants in the 2014 program will explore the exciting world of engineering through a series of fun, hands-on activities designed to introduce students to many career opportunities available in the engineering field. Activities are developed and led by Ohio State engineering faculty, staff, and students. Female scientists and engineers from The ScottsMiracle-Gro Company, our camp sponsor, work side-by-side with participants during camp activities and industry tours. Program Description: Join us at Urban Arts Space to explore the unique, niche subculture of Zines! Zines are unique, small books filled with drawings, poems, short stories or other creative works of art. These personal memoirs have been used to share thoughts and ideas about the world around us as well as showcase artist abilities. During this five day workshop, we will learn the history of Zines as well as meet several members from our community of Columbus who will help us throughout this camp. Program Description: The Accounting Careers Awareness Program of Ohio (ACAP-Ohio) introduces minority high school students to accounting, finance, economics, technology and management. Program Description: The Department of African American and African Studies will hold its Summer Residential Program from June 15 - 28, 2014 on the OSU campus and at the Community Extension Center. This is a two-week interdisciplinary academic program designed to improve student's critical thinking and analytical skills, as well as develop their competencies in research methods, expository writing, and oral communication. The goal is to provide students with an appreciation for and an understanding of African American and African history, as well as an opportunity to develop a familiarity and proficiency in the use of computer technology. Program Description: Looking for the thrills and excitement of multiple adventure experiences in one camp? Then AEC is for you...expand your horizons as you paddle, climb, bike, and hike in West Virginia's New River Gorge. The New River has some of the best whitewater rafting in the country, and is the perfect place to learn and challenge your rock climbing, mountain biking, hiking, basic wilderness navigation and sea kayaking skills. You'll take to the trees and challenge your resolve as you navigate through a modified high ropes obstacle course. Program Description: Whitewater Adventure Camp - A comprehensive whitewater experience! The Ohiopyle State Park area is nestled in the Laurel Mountains of western Pennsylvania. You'll go whitewater rafting on the mighty Youghiogheny River. Build whitewater kayaking and SUP'ing (stand-up paddle boarding) fundamentals on a calm lake, and then move on to put your skills to the test on novice whitewater. You'll slide down the Meadow Run Waterslides, where many ripples and potholes carved into the stone will give you a whole new kind of whitewater fun. For a change of pace and break from the water, you'll mountain bike some of the great single-track bike trails in the area. You'll camp out and learn to cook your meals over a camp stove. Camp Name: Pills Potions and Poisons (day camp)

Program Description: The Pills, Potions, and Poisons program provides students with an overview of pharmacology and its relationship to health, disease, and society. In the field of pharmacology, scientists study the interactions between drugs and the body and then apply what they have learned to the development of new drugs. Students will learn through a variety of approaches including lecture, discussion, debate, games, laboratory visits, field trips, and hands-on experiments. On the final day of the course, students will present their findings in a showcase day. Parents and teachers are invited to attend. The course is not designed strictly for students with an interest in pharmacy. Any student with an interest in biomedical science (including careers in pharmacy, medicine, dentistry, laboratory research, etc.) is encouraged to apply.

Program Description: The OSU Creative Writing Program awards up to 30 full scholarships to high school students in Columbus City Schools and charter schools in the City of Columbus to participate in a week-long residential summer workshop on campus. Students attend daily workshops and courses taught by OSU faculty, Master of Fine Arts graduate alumni, and current MFA graduate students. They also work on their own writing every day, network with visiting writers in various fields, attend readings by faculty and visitors, and participate in an open mic reading of their own work. The program concludes with a capstone event honoring the students and their families.


Exclusions or Prerequisites: Open to students interested in creative writing. Admission is by application and is competitive.
