August. The university offers fun and engaging activities

Program Description: Imaginations will soar as children ages 3-5 participate in all the best activities Student Life's Recreational Sports has to offer, from gymnastics to story time, crafts to science, and everything in between! Program Description: 4-H Space Adventure Camp is provided in partnership with Ohio 4-H and Marietta College. 44 youth ages 11 to 13 are engaged in a variety of hands-on science lessons featuring physics, chemistry, principles of flight, space travel and rocketry, and computer sciences. Under the supervision of trained teen camp counselors, all youth gain independent living skills by living on a college camp, residing in the dorms, crossing campus for the activities, and engaging in planned recreation to enhance the camp experience. Program Description: The GRASP Summer Camp is a 5 day long day camp for middle school age girls hosted by the Ohio State University Department of Physics Undergraduate Studies Office in coordination with physics faculty, staff, and students. Each day consists of hands-on, interactive physics demonstrations and projects followed by a sporting activity that shows how physics relates to everyday phenomena. Camp Name: Digital Animation: A Technology Mentoring Program for Young Women (day camp) Program Description: Digital Animation: A Technology Mentoring Program for Young Women is a free summer program for girls who have completed or are entering the 7th and 8th grades in central Ohio. For two weeks, the select group of young women works with women mentors using problem-solving skills and collaborative learning to create digital animation. The program is offered by the Advanced Computing Center for Arts and Design (ACCAD), a research center in The Ohio State University's College of Arts and Sciences and one of the premiere animation education centers in the world.

Exclusions or Prerequisites: There is an application process for acceptance into the program. The application includes an applicant essay, a visual problem solved by the applicant and a teacher recommendation. Generally there are more applicants than open spots. Camp Name: Women in Engineering GROW (day camp)
Program Description: WiE GROW is a five-day, non-residential summer program for young women entering 8th grade in Fall 2014. The program is held on The Ohio State University's Columbus campus. Participants in the 2014 program will explore the exciting world of engineering through a series of fun, hands-on activities designed to introduce students to many career opportunities available in the engineering field. Activities are developed and led by Ohio State engineering faculty, staff, and students. Female scientists and engineers from The ScottsMiracle-Gro Company, our camp sponsor, work side-by-side with participants during camp activities and industry tours. In addition to on-campus activities, participants visit several area businesses and corporations, where they will meet with a variety of engineers and observe first-hand what engineers do in the 'real world.'

Program Description: The Summer Institute for Diversity in Nursing is a great way to see why the profession of nursing could be right for you. This summer, come to The Ohio State University campus for four days of hands-on nursing experience. You'll be equipped with scrubs, a stethoscope, a blood pressure cuff, and Ohio State gear. You'll attend lectures, skills labs, ACT preparation, as well as take tours of our labs, The James Cancer Hospital, the Anatomy Body Donation Program, and The Ohio State University campus.The Summer Institute for Diversity in Nursing is for current high school sophomores and juniors, and seniors who have submitted applications for undergraduate admissions to Ohio State.This interactive program aims to increase the number of historically underrepresented populations in nursing, including Black/African American, Native American, Asian, Hispanic and male. The College of Nursing is actively seeking to increase the diversity of the student population, so we can better serve the nursing profession and the nation's health.

Program Description: The Women in Engineering Learning Community Early Arrival Program (WiE LEAP) assists female students in their transition to the study of engineering and the Ohio State atmosphere. Students will move into their residence hall, the home of the WiE Learning Community prior to Autumn Semester move-in day and spend time with faculty, alumnae, and students from various engineering disciplines. Through these interactions, participants will get a jump start on forming connections that will ensure their success as engineering students. Students are required to participate in a WiE LEAP mentoring program and take a 1 credit seminar class, ENGR 1195. During the school year, the learning community will offer various social and career building events, as well as free tutoring for math and science courses.

Program Description: WiE RISE is a six-day, residential summer program for high school women who will be in the 11th or 12th grade during the 2014/2015 academic year. Students will participate in a series of academic sessions designed to provide students with an in-depth introduction to some of the undergraduate engineering majors offered at Ohio State and to related career fields. These sessions will be led by Ohio State engineering faculty and graduate students and will consist of an introductory presentation followed by a fun, hands-on activity. Participants will also have the opportunity to visit area corporations and businesses to see firsthand the important role that engineers play in our local, national, and global communities.

Camp Name: Young Writers Workshop (residential)
Program Description: The OSU Creative Writing Program awards up to 30 full scholarships to high school students in Columbus City Schools and charter schools in the City of Columbus to participate in a week-long residential summer workshop on campus. Students attend daily workshops and courses taught by OSU faculty, Master of Fine Arts graduate alumni, and current MFA graduate students. They also work on their own writing every day, network with visiting writers in various fields, attend readings by faculty and visitors, and participate in an open mic reading of their own work. The program concludes with a capstone event honoring the students and their families.

Exclusions or Prerequisites: Open to students interested in creative writing. Admission is by application and is competitive. By the March 3 deadline, students currently in 10th and 11th grade (rising juniors and seniors) attending public schools in the City of Columbus must submit their application to the program along with a writing sample and personal statement. Admission is based on an evaluation of the candidate's writing.

Program Description: Join us at Urban Arts Space to explore the unique, niche subculture of Zines! Zines are unique, small books filled with drawings, poems, short stories or other creative works of art. These personal memoirs have been used to share thoughts and ideas about the world around us as well as showcase artist abilities. During this five day workshop, we will learn the history of Zines as well as meet several members from our community of Columbus who will help us throughout this camp. We will share our finished products with our friends and family on the last day of camp in a Zine swap with other Columbus Zine enthusiasts!
