Middle School Validation Process

• Open June – Sept. 30, 2015 • STARS Professional Development System• Must have SAFE account• Free to districts

Middle School ValidationBeginning Fall 2015 (Fiscal Year 2016), teachers instructing middle school career-technical education courses must meet one of the following:

1. Possess a current, five-year Ohio professional license that includes middle school grade levels, and complete the Ohio Department of Education’s career-technical education validation process by Sept. 30, 2015.

2. Possess a current, five-year career-technical education license. No middle school validation required.

3. Possess a four-year alternative resident educator license for career-technical education and only teach VM middle school courses within their specific program and taxonomy.

4. Four-year non-CTE resident educators cannot teach VM Career-Technical Education middle school courses.

Middle School Waiver

Legislation provides opportunities to expand CTE in grades 7 and 8

Districts must provide CTE programming in both grades 7 and 8, or request waiver from ODE

Waiver is due Sept. 30 for each year the district does not intend to offer MS programming

The goal is to create a streamlined process that doesn’t burden districts but is beneficial in the continuous improvement of CTE programming
