A Note from Pastor Nicole: Hello, OBC Family!

March is here, which means we are that much closer to

spring—a time for new life and new beginnings. Speaking of “resurrection,” Bible study will resume

this month! I wanted to let you know a little more about the structure of our upcoming studies on Wednesday nights at 6:30.

Each week we will take a look at the scriptures from the Sunday before.

We will pick one and read it three times, each time in a different translation. Then we will go around in a circle and talk about what words or phrases stuck out to us and why. Finally, we will discuss how it will inform

our faith journey—how will it influence us to be the change we want to see in the world?

This format of study is called Lectio Divina, which means “Divine Reading”

in Latin. It is a traditional Benedictine practice of scriptural reading, meditation, and prayer intended to strengthen our relationship with God as well as to increase our knowledge of God's Word. We are encouraged to gradually let go of our own agenda and open ourselves to what God is saying to us. Participants will also have a chance to ask questions and

respond to the sermon from the previous Sunday.

I warmly invite all of you to join me on Wednesday nights. Please bring a copy of your favorite translation of the Bible. I will also have copies available for folks to use. I look forward to our discussions and time

of sharing!

Blessings,

Pastor Nicole

Change in the Smorgasbord Date The Smorgasbord, an annual dinner put on by the church and

organized by the Laurel Guild, will be held the last Saturday in September (Sept. 29) in 2018. We are trying the

September date, rather than the usual October date for several reasons. In September the daylight hours are longer and will allow for safer walking through the parking lot to the church. Also, perhaps, the weather might be better than unpredictable October.

Finally, Oct-Dec are such busy months and having the dinner in September will give some people some breathing room between

volunteering cooked items for church projects. The Laurel Guild members welcome comments on this change.

PAGE 8 KidzMin Moment February was a lot of Fun in our KidzMin department! We kicked off the month by having a blast preparing and distributing

our SuBer-bowl Submarine Sandwiches! A huge thank you to all who came into church early to help prepare and supervise! And a huge thank you to Emily Cole and Rebecca Castellano for helping to coordinate and organize the event as it was a HUGE success! February was all about Friendship, love and discipleship in our Sunday School classes as we were re-introduced to the stories of the twelve disciples. As we enter March we begin our dive into the second half of Christ’s ministry and his final

journey– to the cross. ——————————————————

This Month The Spotlight shines on Heidi Feuerherm! This past month Heidi has been displaying all the positive characteristics of a

disciple-in-training! Heidi has been a steward for new and visiting children in the program, she has actively been

participating in the Lenten studies and working diligently to meet and exceed classroom expectations and we are constantly blessed by her

artwork while she adds illustrations to many of our Bible Lessons. Awesome Job Heidi, We LOVE YOU!
