Offshore wind mill installation - survey challenges

The challenges may be:

• Access

• Accuracy

• Position

• Inclination

• Orientation

• Automatic data transmitting

• Equipment

• Guiding

• Instant reporting

• Live / real-time monitoring

• Mobilization time

• Offshore surveying

• Safety

Monopile Installation

• Positioning

• Global position (GPS)

• Verticality (Total station)

• Elevation (GPS)

• Crane monitoring during uplift (Two total stations online)

• On line monitoring during piling

• With ParkerPMS™

• Documentation

• Final report with position, elevation, roll and pitch

Offshore windmill installation – TP - survey challenges

Our solution had to meet these specifications:

Heading / Orientation: Better than 2,5 degrees

Roll and pitch / Inclination: Better than 0,25 degrees

Jacking advice: To meet the specifications

Reporting: Immediate report after ”set down” plus final report

Logging: Store all data to enable post processing if required

Page 11: Offshore windmill installation

13

We decided to use:

• GPS / Glonass for heading

• Glonass option added due to obstructions and demand for 100% continuous monitoring

• High precision inclinometer for roll / pitch (Inclination) (and heave) – we used MRU 5• Heave option added for post processing if unexpected heave occurred

• Later we added Gyro with motion sensor

• 2,4 Ghz radio link• 2,4 Ghz does not require license

• ParkerPMS™ for data presentation and complete data logging

• In house software system adapted for the monitoring and reporting

• GPS equipment mounted onboard on top of TP before lifting

• Inclinometer aligned on top of TP flange before lifting

• Gyro and motion sensor aligned on top of TP flange before lifting

• Radio link mounted and communication to monitoring computer tested prior to lifting

16

• Lifting starts

• Setting of TP on to mono-pile starts

• Parker crew continuously advising to get the heading perfect

• Parker crew continuously advising the jacking operation to get the inclination perfect

• After TP has been ”locked” a verification survey was performed

• Final report issued

Achieved target

Heading / Orientation: Better than 0,5 degrees – (Better than 2,5 Degrees)

Roll and pitch / Inclination: Better than 0,05 degrees (Better than 0,25 degrees)

Reporting: Immediate report after ”set down” plus final report

Logging: Data stored. Post processing (heave check) required a few

times
