CatEgoriEsOn the online entry form, please indicate the appropriate Category for
your entry. In addition, if you wish to have your entry considered for a
Specialty Award, check the appropriate box on the same entry form.
One fee and one form is all that’s required for consideration in two areas.
The competition is divided into the following six main categories.
Select the category that best characterizes your design(s).
• Small Kitchen (less than 150 sq. ft.)
• Medium Kitchen (150-350 sq. ft.)
• Large Kitchen (more than 350 sq. ft.)
• Powder Room (must contain a sink and a toilet, no tub or shower)
• Small Bathroom (less than 55 sq. ft.)
• Large Bathroom (more than 55 sq. ft.)
nOte:
•Openplankitchensshouldbeenteredintoanappropriatekitchen
category, based on sq. footage.
•Whilecalculatingsq.footageforkitchens,cook,prepandclean-up
areas, family desk, casual built-in dining, island dining, and eat-in areas
should be included where applicable.
•Masterbathroomsshouldbeenteredintoanappropriatebathroom
category, based on sq. footage.
•Whilecalculatingsq.footageforbathrooms,watercloset,vanity,and
areas for bathing, shower, closet and dressing should be included
where applicable.

Judging The competition entries will be scored on the following five core areas:

2.Elements&PrinciplesofDesign

EachoftheindustryexpertsselectedtojudgeiseitheraCertifiedMaster
Kitchen&BathDesigner(CMKBD®) or both a Certified Kitchen Designer
(CKD®) and a Certified Bath Designer (CBD®). Judges are not eligible to
enter the competition in the year of their service. Judges adhere to the
NKBAKitchen&BathPlanningGuidelineswithAccessStandardswhen
scoring entries.
CoMPEtition guidElinEs•TheindividualentrantmustbetheDesignerofRecordontheproject
andmustbeanNKBAmember.Non-membersmustjointheNKBAto
enter the competition. Co-designers are not required to be members of
theNKBA.(Maximumoftwoco-designers).
•Iftheentrantisnottheownerofthebusinessthatbilledtheproject,
owner approval is required for eligibility. The owner is not required to be
a member of the NKBA.
•Theproject(s)submittedmusthavebeeninstalledbetween
January 1, 2014 and August 14, 2015.
•EntertheprojectintotheoneCategorythatbestrepresentsyour
project.Youmayenterasmanyprojectsasyouwouldlikethatfitinto
the six different Categories.
•IfyourprojectqualifiesforaSpecialtyAward,itistobeenteredin
addition to the Categories on the same entry form, (ex. Small Kitchen,
Before & After Kitchen) and no additional fees are required.
•Anewentryformisrequiredforeachprojectsubmittedandisto
be completed in full. Each entry requires a separate fee.
•EntriesmustbereceivedattheNKBAHeadquartersbyAugust14,2015
with the entry fee included.
•EarlybirdentryfeeforprojectsreceivedbetweenJune1-July17,2015

If any materials are omitted or if required criteria is not met, the entry will be disqualified. No notification
will be given. The NKBA reserves the right to disqualify a project before, during, or after the contest judging.
Entry fees will not be refunded, and entry materials will not be returned. To avoid disqualification, please
adhere closely to all competition guidelines and submit the following materials in one mailing:
q Entries must be received at the NKBA Headquarters no later than August 14, 2015
