T he Board of Directors, staff and students of Académie Ste

Cécile International School in Windsor, Ontario welcome all of the coaches, athletes and their families and friends to the OFSSA Single A Boys’ Soccer Championship for 2011. We congratulate all the many fine athletes for their keen sense of sportsmanship; they are all winners in their distinctive ways! We thank the many caring and dedicated parents and coach-es for their untiring support and

dedication; you contribute greatly to the success of these young ath-letes. We wish you all an exciting experience with us this week as well as in your future careers.

M ay you “seek truth and justice, love and peace” (ASCIS

motto). Thérèse H. Gadoury, Directrice

Académie Ste Cécile International School

925 Cousineau Road, Windsor, Ontario, N9G 1V8

G reetings and welcome to Windsor and the 2011 OFSAA

'A' Boys Soccer Championships!! We are so proud to host this tournament, and are so happy to have you here. A wonderful committee of ded-icated soccer devotees have worked diligently to make this a great experience for you, and they deserve your thanks and praise. Feel free to acknowledge them during the tournament. They will be the ones in white golf shirts with name tags. Their names are listed elsewhere in the program. Then there are students who have given their time to help out - they will be in the bright yellow t-shirts (game management personnel), or in bright red t-shirts (hosts). They, too, deserve your appreciation. I must mention the assis-tance given by the Catholic Central SS staff, paricularly MIke McKittrick and Peter Cusumano. They hosted an OFSAA soccer tournament last

year, and we have benefited tremendously from their experience and advice.

L astly, praise must go to Academie Ste. Cecile

International School. Whoever would have thought that a relatively new school of about 125 students from all over the world could take on such an abitious project? It shows the 'daring nature' of the school and its director, Mme. Gadoury. If you get the feeling that ASCIS is spe-cial, you are correct. Have a great time in Windsor - you'll find it to be a great city. Paul 'Doc' Thomas Tournament Committee Chairman.

FROM THE CHAIRMAN BY DR. PAUL THOMAS

Cécile International School (ASCIS) can attest that enrolling their chil-dren in this distinguished private school is a ‘smart choice’ demonstrating all of the above. “We are confident that the ASCIS experi-ence is preparing our children in their pursuit of excellence,” states Jerome and Nancy Taylor. “By enabling them to develop their full intellectual, creative, spiritual and physi-cal potential, our children will become strong future leaders.” Like the Taylor’s, Keith and Lorraine Matlock foresee the same possibili-ties for their children in a world that is bor-derless for ASCIS graduates. “In today’s highly competitive global job market, we

must give our children a cut-ting edge to be successful on the world stage,” believes the Matlock’s. “ASCIS provides the necessary education to be confident and perform on a global level. Students who attend ASCIS are enrolled from all parts of the world. ASCIS has posi-

tioned itself to teach about world culture while instilling respect, honesty and integrity in every student.” ASCIS, has been produc-ing world leaders since the opening of its first campus in 1993. It began in Tecumseh and relocated in 1995 to its current location at 925 Cousineau Road in Windsor. “We aim to develop the whole person by encouraging academic excellence and fos-tering qualities of leadership, responsibility, organization, courtesy and respect in our students,” explains Therese Gadoury, Di-rectrice of ASCIS.

G adoury has been at the helm of ASCIS since its inception. She ensures that

the school maintains the principles of the Roman Catholic Church and boasts an inter-

faith setting “Seeking Truth and Justice, Love and Peace.” Such is taught in a dy-namic, nurturing environment with a sense of community, caring teachers and staff, small class sizes, excellent services and state-of-the-art facilities.

A SCIS evolved from a basic elementary and secondary school to a renowned

day and resident school for children from junior kindergarten through to high school. This private institution also offers courses in various languages, instruction in English as a Second Language (ESL) and TOEFL clas-ses as well as advanced computer courses and program in sports, music, dance, drama and visual arts. “As parents of two children attending ASCIS from very young ages, we felt it imperative to engage them in a fo-cused, supportive and stimulating environ-ment,” say Dominic and Linda Amicone. “The teachers and administration at ASCIS strive to ensure the best educational experi-ence for each child.” ASCIS prepares students for the Ontario Secondary School Diploma, the world-recognized International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, Advanced Placement (AP) and SAT examinations. “Since I studied AP and IB courses at ASCIS, I was well prepared for many of my first year courses (at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago),” be-lieves ASCIS graduate, Paul Baulier. “My strongest test results in AP Calculus allowed me to transfer five math credits; this opened up my schedule and gave me more time to focus on my current studies.” Participating and excelling at ASCIS aca-demically and in its athletics earned 2001 ASCIS graduate, Jaida Bourke scholarships for her post secondary studies. Bourke, a graduate from Grand Valley State University in Michigan has a degree in Biomedical Sci-ence and is completing medical studies at Wayne State University’s School of Medi-cine. “I attribute my success at university and medical school to my work ethic, which was instilled in me through my years at AS-CIS,” she says. “The personal attention from the teachers and close-knit student body created a great learning environment.”

T aking a tour and absorbing this unique and dynamic private school will affirm to

prospective parents why ASCIS graduates are so successful and why so many parents and prominent professionals commend this institution. “We highly recommend ASCIS to any parent wishing to provide a child with academic excellence, high standards, social development and cultural awareness,” states Dr. Fouad and Lisa Tayfour. “The learning, memories and new friendships which our son is developing are truly price-less.” Article submitted by: Académie Ste Cecile Inter-national School Originally printed in Issue 51 of THE DRIVE Mag-azine.

T he tournament committee di-recting the 2011 OFSAA Single ‘A’ Boys Soccer Champion-ships is exceedingly pround to

name Mike McKittrick as the winner of this year’s Leadership in School Sport Award. Mike is an ‘athletic junkie’ who has spent his life playing, coaching, admin-istrating, and directing sports and ath-letics; and has gained many awards, championships, and commendations for his involvement over the years. For example, he has been named ‘Educator of the Year’ by the Autism Society of Windsor/Essex County; he received the Coach of the Year award from the On-tario Coaches Association in coopera-tion with OFSAA; among other citations. He has coached various sports at vari-ous levels. He spent nine years teach-ing/coaching every sport at the elemen-tary school level; and in 1986 he be-came athletic director at Catholic Cen-tral High School and has remained in that position ever since. He has been very much responsible for the CCH’s outstanding athletic program—outstanding in both participation and championships in various sports. He has contributed further to high school sports by his committee work with the Windsor/Essex County Sec-

ondary Schools Athletic Associations and with the Southwestern Secondary Schools Athletic Association.

I n addition, he has coached boys and girls travel team soccer. As if that isn’t enough, he started a daily luncheon intramural program

(currently 600 students are participat-ing) and has continued that wonderful contributing program for the past 21 years! There is still more! In 2009 he had his first experience with convening OFSAA championships by assisting with the ’AAAA’ basketball tournament. He then ’started his own OFSAA convening in-volvement’ by taking over Boys Soccer in 2009, and continued with Girls Soc-cer in 2010, and again this year. He has done such a wonderful job of these tournaments that his tournament con-vening expertise is sought by other schools, associations, and districts, and has been recognized and appreciated by the OFSAA office. With the approval and support of his wife, Mary, and his two children, he has made an amazing contribution to OF-SAA sports in general, and soccer in particular. He is a very fitting recipient of this year’s LEADERSHIP IN SCHOOL SPORT AWARD.
