Day 4 | Cruising the Amazon Basin

Set out aboard skiff boats, anticipating the day’sastounding and unexpected wildlife encounters.The region in which you are cruising, PacayaSamiria National Reserve, is Peru’s largestwildlife preserve, boasting more than five millionacres of rich biodiversity. Skim along rivers andcruise through creeks, peeking into lagoons and other waterways, where an abundance ofwildlife hides in the deep rain forest, such asblue and yellow macaws, toucans, capybarasand more. Marvel at grey and pink dolphinsswimming nearby. You might even catchglimpses of the endangered charapa turtle, spider monkey, giant river otter or red macaw.

Day 5 | Cruising the Amazon Basin

Never does nature seem more bountiful than inthe tropics, and rising early is always rewardingsince wildlife is most plentiful and active at daybreak. With your expert guide, hike in to explore the fantastic flora and fauna. You’ll likelysee brilliant parrots, hawks, hummingbirds and“laughing” falcons. Zoom in on exotic spiders,

dragonflies, butterflies and tarantulas. Sharp eyesmay spot red howler monkeys, iguanas lazing inthe sun and sloths hanging in the upper canopy.

Enrichment: Contemporary Peru. Learn how modern Peru has been shaped by its past.

Day 6 | Nauta | Iquitos | Lima | Cusco

After breakfast, disembark the Delfin III in Nautaand transfer via coach to the Iquitos airport.

Discovery: Manatee Rescue Center. On yourway to the airport, visit this conservation center tosee these gentle, endangered creatures up close.

Board your flight for Cusco via Lima. Once you arrive in Cusco, take a panoramic drive to thestunning Urubamba Valley, the Sacred Valley ofthe Incas, tucked amid towering mountain slopes.

Day 7 | Sacred Valley

Discovery: Sacred Valley. Explore the ruins of the Inca fortress, Ollantaytambo, a series of huge terraces that hug the hillside. Then visit a village seemingly frozen in time. Learn about the ancient weaving methods the residents have used for centuries to support themselves in this challenging mountain environment. While in town, visit with local citizens to learn about

their daily life. Later, visit a ranch for lunch and an equestrian demonstration.

Take in scenic views on a train ride through theSacred Valley to the town of Aguas Calientes and the Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo hotel.

Discovery: Machu Picchu. Nestled in a misty cloud forest high in the Andes, the LostCity of the Incas is considered the most

important archaeological site in the Americas.The mountaintop complex contains more than200 buildings, all of which testify to the Incas’remarkable architectural skills. Wander throughstone temples, grassy plazas and palaces with an expert guide. Explore the Temple of the Three Windows, the Sacristy and more.

Free Time: Your morning is at leisure.

Travel by train through the beautiful mountainscenery and then by motor coach to Cusco.Check in to the Palacio del Inka.

Day 3 | Lima | Iquitos | Nauta | Cruising

Transfer to Lima’s airport for your flight to Iquitos,the gateway to the Amazon, accessible only byplane or boat. Journey through Iquitos to Nauta,a small town on the Marañon River. Along theway, see the vibrant “terra firma” (non-flooded forest) and other aspects of daily jungle life. Oncein Nauta, embark the Delfin III at a private port.

Set out aboard skiff boats, anticipating the day’sastounding and unexpected wildlife encounters.The region in which you are cruising, PacayaSamiria National Reserve, is Peru’s largestwildlife preserve, boasting more than five millionacres of rich biodiversity. Skim along rivers andcruise through creeks, peeking into lagoons and other waterways, where an abundance ofwildlife hides in the deep rain forest, such asblue and yellow macaws, toucans, capybarasand more. Marvel at grey and pink dolphinsswimming nearby. You might even catchglimpses of the endangered charapa turtle, spider monkey, giant river otter or red macaw.

Day 5 | Cruising the Amazon Basin

Never does nature seem more bountiful than inthe tropics, and rising early is always rewardingsince wildlife is most plentiful and active at daybreak. With your expert guide, hike in to explore the fantastic flora and fauna. You’ll likelysee brilliant parrots, hawks, hummingbirds and“laughing” falcons. Zoom in on exotic spiders,

dragonflies, butterflies and tarantulas. Sharp eyesmay spot red howler monkeys, iguanas lazing inthe sun and sloths hanging in the upper canopy.

Enrichment: Contemporary Peru. Learn how modern Peru has been shaped by its past.

Day 6 | Nauta | Iquitos | Lima | Cusco

After breakfast, disembark the Delfin III in Nautaand transfer via coach to the Iquitos airport.

Discovery: Manatee Rescue Center. On yourway to the airport, visit this conservation center tosee these gentle, endangered creatures up close.

Board your flight for Cusco via Lima. Once you arrive in Cusco, take a panoramic drive to thestunning Urubamba Valley, the Sacred Valley ofthe Incas, tucked amid towering mountain slopes.

Day 7 | Sacred Valley

Discovery: Sacred Valley. Explore the ruins of the Inca fortress, Ollantaytambo, a series of huge terraces that hug the hillside. Then visit a village seemingly frozen in time. Learn about the ancient weaving methods the residents have used for centuries to support themselves in this challenging mountain environment. While in town, visit with local citizens to learn about

Take in scenic views on a train ride through theSacred Valley to the town of Aguas Calientes and the Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo hotel.

Discovery: Machu Picchu. Nestled in a misty cloud forest high in the Andes, the LostCity of the Incas is considered the most

important archaeological site in the Americas.The mountaintop complex contains more than200 buildings, all of which testify to the Incas’remarkable architectural skills. Wander throughstone temples, grassy plazas and palaces with an expert guide. Explore the Temple of the Three Windows, the Sacristy and more.

Then visit the Monastery of SanFrancisco, which contains a beautifully decoratedchurch, a library with 25,000 antique volumes andbone-filled catacombs beneath the chapels.

Day 3 | Lima | Iquitos | Nauta | Cruising

Transfer to Lima’s airport for your flight to Iquitos,the gateway to the Amazon, accessible only byplane or boat. Journey through Iquitos to Nauta,a small town on the Marañon River. Along theway, see the vibrant “terra firma” (non-flooded forest) and other aspects of daily jungle life. Oncein Nauta, embark the Delfin III at a private port.
