Fingolfin, King of the Noldor
The chapter opened with Fingolfin, King of the Noldor, contemplating an attack on Morgoth.
Morgoth Under Seige at Angband
While most of the Elves were not concerned about an impeding threat from Morgoth, who was under siege at Angband, Fingolfin feared his power.
Dragor Bragollach: The Battle of the Sudden Flame
Morgoth, who had been building forces in secret, vowed to destroy the Noldor and their lands. He scorched the plains and thus began the fourth great battle. Morgoth sent forth Glaurung, father of the dragons, as well as Balroags (demons of fire) and Orcs. This attack ended the siege of Angband and most of the Elves were forced to retreat and scatter across the lands.
Fingolfin Challenged Morgoth to One-on-One Combat
Fingolfin struck Morgoth seven times while Morgoth continuously swung and missed Fingolfin.
Morgoth Defeats Fingolfin
Morgoth crushes Fingolfin with his foot and kills him.
Throndor Swoops Down
Thorondor of the Great Eagles swooped down, marred Morgoth's face, and carried Fingolfin’s body to the top of the mountain which overlooked Gondolin.
The Fall of Minas Tirith and Tol Sirion
Sauron took Minas Tirith to create a watchtower for Morgoth
