PrefaceInrecentpriorsemesters,thedefaultsettingsduringcoursecopyincludedtheentirecoursecontentcollectionduetochangesinhowBlackboard,Inc.,handledcoursecontentatthetime.EffectiveApril1,copyingtheentirecontentcollectionwillnolongerapply.Thedefaultsettings,effectiveApril1,willincludeonlythoseitemsthatareactuallylinkedsomewhereinthecourse,thatis,onlythosethatareactually“used.”Thiswillsignificantlyreducethesizeofcoursesbynotreproducingtheentirecontentcollectiononeachcopyandbynotincludingitemsnotactuallyused.Whyisitimportanttoreducethecoursesizebynotduplicatingcontentunnecessarily?Largesizedcoursesslowdownthesystemtaskssocompletingcoursecopiestakesmuchlonger.Reallylargecoursescancompletelystallthesystemtasksaltogether.Therehavebeenseveraloccasionsinrecentweekswherethishashappened.Wewanttoalleviatethatproblemsothatyoucanrelyonaquicker,moreresponsivesystem.Therearetwoparticularlysignificantissuestonote:

• Storedfilesforyourpersonalaccesso Ifyoustoredocumentsorotherfilesinyourcoursesitesforeaseofaccessduringclass,athome,etc.,those

willnotbeincludedinthecoursecopy.o Option1:

§ Createahiddenmenuitemorfolderinyourcourseandaddthoseitemstothatspace.Thentheywillbeconsideredinuseandbeincludedinthecoursecopy.Itwillbebestifyoudothatbeforeyoumakeyournextcopy.

o Option2(preferred):§ COPYorMOVEthesetypesoffilesfromacurrentorpreviouscoursetoyourpersonalcontent

collectioninBlackboard.Itmaybeeasiesttodothatbeforethenextcoursecopy,butitcanbedoneanytime,aslongasthepreviouscourseisstillinthesystem.

• Packagesusedincourseso Ifyouusea“package,”onethatrequiresseveralfilesand/orsubfolderswithfiles,itislikelythatonlythefirst

CourseCopyBlackboardCoursecopyallowsthemovingofcoursematerialsfromonecoursetoanother.Copyingcoursematerialsintoanexistingcoursewilladdcontenttoacourse,butwillnotremoveexistingcontent.NotethatcopyingmorethanonceofthesameCourseMaterialswillcauseduplicationsincontent.

FirstSteps–WhereDoIStart1. Beforecopyingthecourse,considerfirstremovingoldandoutdatedmaterialsinthecurrentcoursetoaidinreducing

coursesizeandcopyingunnecessarymaterials.YouwillonlywanttoremoveitemsthatmayNOTbecurrentlyinusebyyourcourse.Donotremoveanythingthathasagradeattached.

2. Move/addfrequentlyuseditemstoyourusercontentdirectory.Inthecontentcollectionunder‘MyContent’youcanstoreitemsthatyouuseoftenandlinkyourcourseshere.–SeeMovingContenttoUserDirectorybelow.

3. MoveALLvideostoKaltura.SeeMovingVideostoKalturaPreparingthenewcourse

IfyouareusingHTMLpackagesandfindthatthecoursecopyonlycopiedtheindexfileandnottheotherfilesincludedinthepackage,youcanfollowthesestepstocorrecttheissue:

1. NavigatetotheorginialcourseandgototheControlPanelthenContentCollection.2. Locatethefolderthatcontainsthepackagefile.



3. Selectthefolderyouwishtocopy,thenselectCopy.

4. SelectBrowse,asecondwindowwillpop-up5. Selectthearrowtonaviatetotheparentfolder.

6. Selectthedownarrowtoseeyourlistofcourses.

7. Selectyourcoursefromthelist.Thepagewillrefresh.8. Checktheboxnexttothecoursename.ThenclickSubmit.



9. AttheBlackboardmainpage,selectSubmit.

10. Asuccessindicatorappearsatthetopofthepage.

1. Navigatetothenewcourse(thecourseyoucopieddatainto)2. Locatetheitem/filethatneedstobeupdated.3. Edittheitem4. UndertheattachmentheadingselectBrowseContentCollection.

5. Locatethefolderthatwasjustcopied6. Clickthefoldernametoopenthefolderandandlocatethefiletoattach.7. Placeachecknexttothefileyouwishtouse.ClickSubmit.

8. SelectGiveusersaccesstoallfilesandfolderinthefolder.Thiswillallowthemtoviewthedatalinked.

9. ClickSubmit.Thefileisnowlinked.



MovingVideostoKalturaPleaseseethefollowingstepsifyoucurrenlyhaveanypackagefilevideoinBlackboard.IfyoualreadyhavethevideofilesavedelsewhereandwishtouploadtoKaltura,skiptostep7.

1. Determinethetypeofvideofileyouwishtouse.Kalturaonlyacceptscertainvideofiles.Mpeg-4andQuickTimeFormats(MP4,MOV,QT,andM4V),FlashVideo(FLVandF4V),MicrosoftWindowsFormats(AVI,ASF,WMVandWMA),MPEG-1/2(MPG,M1V,M2V,MP3),WAV,Matroska(MKV),OGGOGM&OGV,WEBM,3GP,RM,Webex(ARF),MXFareallacceptable.

2. Ifyouareconvertingfromapackagefile,enterintotheoldercourse.3. NavigatetotheControlPanel,thenContentCollection.Clickonthecoursename.

4. Locatethefolderthatcontainsthevideofile.5. Ensurethevideoplayspriortosaving.6. Downloadandsavethefile.7. Navigatetothenewcourseandclickthemenuitemwhereyouwouldliketoplacethevideo.8. Ifthisisnotavideoquiz,selectBuildContentthenKalturaMedia.Ifyouwouldliketocreateavideoquizplease

9. Selectaddnewfromtheupperrighthandcorner.MediaUpload
