opportunity to learn about what it

takes to be a part of each of the career

fields. From practicing how to roll hair

into roller sets in the Cosmetology

demonstration to repainting a car in

the Collision & Repair demonstration,

they experienced hands on learning.

In the nursing demonstration at

Edgecombe some students had the

opportunity to learn about a new

technology in the medical field, a

mannequin that is so life like that it can

talk, have seizures and expel bodily

fluids. This mannequin is used to help

prepare nursing students for real life

scenarios. After the informative

sessions on both campuses the

students had guided tours through the

colleges and their wonderful facilities.

The CIS 8th graders loved the

educational, fun experiences that they

are sure to remember!

My name is Delilah Jones, and I am the

intern here at Communities in Schools. I am

currently a senior attending East Carolina

University in the University Studies Program. I

am a former Communities in Schools student

and that is why I decided to return and give

back by offering my help and gaining

2

professional experience with this

wonderful organization. CIS helped me

accomplish my goals of improving my

grades and graduating from high school

to attend a 4-year University. I am so

grateful for the opportunity to work with

such an amazing staff that is motivated to

change the lives of the youth by showing

them the importance of education.

Study Tips:

• Listening to Classical music while you study or do homework has been scientifically proven to improve productivity & concentration.

• Turn your notes into flash cards, into Q&A form, that way you can test yourself.

• Take 15-minute breaks in between study sessions to give your brain a break.
