October has remained a busy month with the Greensboro Auto Auction and Good Guys Southeast Regional Show in Charlotte along with our locally scheduled events, including Joe's Landscaping & Nursery on the 16th, Colfax Persimmon Festival on the 22nd, and Arbor Acres Retirement Center on the 28th. Nelson Wilson will be our Presidential nominee and Brenda Hockaday will remain as Treasurer. John & Ruth Ann will remain as active officers. Please remember to submit your 2017 dues to Brenda as soon as possible. Also, our Christmas Party is quickly approaching and we will need to pay this. We have a lot to look forward to. Personal Notes

Frank Harris informed us that his wife Nancy had surgery on Thursday to remove part of her leg and foot. She will be in the Forsyth Hospital 3-5 days, therapy for three weeks, then fitting for prosthesis after that. Thoughts and prayers are with her (and Frank) during this recovery period.

We heard that Leo Baker has been having more surgery for skin cancer. We all hope that this will be done soon.

And also Pat Baker has been having some issues and we also hope she is on the mend. Jimmy and Pat Hailey are still having health issues and we hope that you’ll both be back in good health soon.

A Visit to the AACA Museum Ruth Ann Ronchetti, Activities

On the way back from my 50th Class Reunion in PA, John and I decided to stop at the AACA Museum in Hershey, PA before driving home. After the busy week they had at their annual huge Car Show/Meet, it was pretty quiet to say the least but a very good time to visit. For those of you that have never been there, it is truly worth the time to see what that museum holds … it is amazing! The displays are so well done, it is like walking through time. I especially wanted to see the new display of the David Cammack Tucker Car Collection … I just really love the looks of those cars! I took sooo many pictures and unfortunately we don’t have room here to show them all to you … you will have to come to our Christmas Party to see our yearly slide display to see them. There is NO admission for AACA members to get into the museum so you REALLY need to take advantage of it when you are in the area. In the meantime, enjoy these 1948 Tucker pictures … awesome cars!

Old Salem Chapter Upcoming Events Ruth Ann Ronchetti, Activities

On Sunday, October 16th, our new member Joe Marion has invited our OSC to come to his “Joe’s Landscaping & Nursery,” 705 Lasley Rd, Lewisville, for a tour in the afternoon starting at 2:00 pm. If you have ever driven to Yadkinville on Hwy. 421, you have seen it on the left side of the highway, a huge beautiful place! He has 85 acres there (not all developed, of course) but a whole lot of it is and he has some wonderfully interesting things there to see … not only the nursery but he has some beautiful Classic cars, an amazing collection (hundreds) of license plates from all over the world displayed, along with other automotive memorabilia, and a recently finished cool, little “General Store.”

He also has several very nice large ponds that are fully stocked with fish, too, so he has also invited anyone that would like to fish, just bring your fishing pole, etc., along with you! In order for him to give us the “grand tour” so he can talk to us easily to explain everything, he said he will have a hay wagon(s) ready for us to hop onto to drive us around the property. Mmmm … when he told us that I said, “Joe, you do know that you are going to be having a lot of seniors with this group that may not be able to get up on them, don’t you?” He said, “no problem,” he has had other senior groups there and is prepared for our group. COME ON! IT’S GONNA BE A FUN AFTERNOON! We will meet in the parking lot of Milner Brothers Restaurant, 2391 Lewisville-Clemmons Rd., Clemmons, at 1:30 pm, immediately after the Interstate Shell Station on the right as you exit off of Hwy. I-40. Following the tour at Joe’s, we will come back to Clemmons for dinner, if you would like to join us. The place will be determined before we leave Joe’s.

Please RSVP me at [email protected] … or … 336-817-6553

*****************************************************

Friday, October 21st, our OSC has been invited to Priddy Manor Assisted Living, 1294 Priddy Rd., King, for a car display for their residents and complimentary Chicken Stew. The residents so love seeing these old cars there, brings back good memories for them. Let’s not disappoint them. Please arrive 3:15-3:30 pm.

Please RSVP me at [email protected] … or … 336-817-6553

Saturday, October 22nd, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, is the annual Colfax Persimmon Festival, 558 N. Bunker Hill Rd., Colfax. (October 29th is the rain date.) On a historic farm with structures dating back into the early 1800s or before, the Annual Colfax Persimmon Festival celebrates the persimmon and historic farming with a wide range of exhibits, demonstrations, arts and crafts, live music, and of course, many persimmon-related items for purchase.

Our OSC has been asked to bring some of our old cars through the 1950’s to display at the festival. They would like the cars there 9:00 to 9:30 am. For those that can do that, the admission is free. For all others, the Admission fee is: $10 for ages 12 and older; $2 for ages 6-11; free for ages 5 and under. Please do NOT bring: pets, coolers or alcohol.

PARKING: Free parking will be coordinated off-site at Shady Grove Church (119 N. Bunker Hill Road). Shuttle service will be arranged to and from the Festival site further north on Bunker Hill Road.

Please RSVP me at [email protected] … or … 336-817-6553

We have a club Outing scheduled for Saturday, October 29th, to go to Victory Junction Gang Camp, 5425 Fred Lineberry Rd., Randleman, at 10:00 am. Since our OSC has helped with the Krispy Kreme/Victory Junction Fundraiser the last several years, they are opening up the “red carpet” for us. “Children shine at Victory Junction. Free from the confines of their disease, illness or disability, they discover that they can be a kid!

How does this happen? Victory Junction has created a medically safe, yet exhilarating camp, that challenges children who have a serious medical condition to try things they never imagined possible. As they conquer activities like zip lining and archery, achieve things like riding a horse for the first time or experience bowling, fishing or swimming, children build confidence that will shape how they view the rest of their lives. That’s when they shine!” We will be able to park our Classic cars inside the complex and upon arrival, we will see a video about the kids and camp in the theater. After that, we will have an escorted tour of the campus being able to go inside the buildings … this will be VERY COOL! Following our tour, we will have lunch at a TBD place. I will try to find another place for us to stop at after lunch … any ideas?

Please RSVP me at [email protected] … or … 336-817-6553

A FEW LITTLE TIDBITS ...

Ruth Ann Ronchetti, Activities REMINDER: Our 2017 OSC Election of Officers is coming up next month. Any officer candidates out there? Think about it for our meeting on Tuesday. Nelson Wilson has agreed to be our nominee for President but we still need nominees for Vice-President and Secretary. COME ON ... STEP RIGHT UP! It really isn't all that difficult. Expand your horizons! WE NEED YOU!

**************************************************

2017 OSC / AACA DUES of $60 are due by December 31st, payable from anytime on. Since AACA National is slammed the month of December, it would definitely make it easier on everyone if you could pay them before that. Our treasurer, Brenda Hockaday, can accept your dues at our October & November meetings (keeping in mind that November is our last meeting of the

year) and she will distribute your $60 payment to National, the NC Region, and our OSC ... all you have to do is write ONE check for the full amount and get it to Brenda.

************************************************** The Greensboro Classic Car Auto Auction is coming up again on October 27-29th. Unfortunately, I have not been given any complimentary tickets this time to hand out to our members. I am usually contacted several months ahead asking that their flyer be put on our OSC website for advertisement which then resulted in us receiving the complimentary tickets but I never heard from them nor received the flyer … sorry.

************************************************** DON'T FORGET OUR VETERANS! The Winston-Salem Veterans Parade is scheduled for Friday, November 11th, 9:00 am line-up at 4th & Broad/Liberty Streets in Winston-Salem, parade starting at 10:00 am. Here is a chance to honor our selfless heroes! The parade organizers are asking for as many Antique/Classic Cars as possible, and of course, decorate them in America's best! PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU CAN ATTEND!

**************************************************

MARK YOU CALENDARS NOW FOR OUR OSC CHRISTMAS PARTY! It will be on Sunday, December 11th at the Paul J. Ciener Botanical Gardens, 215 S. Main Street, Kernersville from 1:00 to 5:00 pm. A beautiful venue and always a really fun time to enjoy the company of our OSC family!
