A fire burnt out of control recentlystarting just north of the Trans CanadaHwy just off of PR 302 which soonbecame out of control causing theevacuation of the community of Ross. The fire started in a farmyard wherea barn burned and the flames thenspread northeastward. The seriousness of the blaze forcedthe Province of Manitoba to send inwater bombers and helicopters tobattle the fire from the air while ap-proximately 75 emergency personnelfought the fire on the ground. Alongwith the evacuation of Ross, a numberof other homes in affected areas werealso evacuated affecting approximately70 people. The community centre in Ste.Genevieve had its doors open for abi-weekly food hamper distributionwhen the fire started. Without hesita-tion they quickly opened their door tothe evacuated residents. The evacuation was lifted and allroads where open for travel by latethe following day as the firefightersreceived some much need assistancefrom Mother Nature with the rain andsnowfall. No injuries were reported or homeslost, just a few storage buildings.

Rhonda Funk spotted a horrible site on October 3. Just outside LaCoulee - right at the intersection of Dawson Trail and Faucher Rd in thesouth ditch she stopped to investigate. She saw these geese, 6 in total. Rhonda took a look to see what hadhappened and was sickened to find they had been shot and left there. “Some body parts were missing. One had no neck, others the chestwas ripped open. I don’t think this was caused by an animal as therewas no evidence of that,” Rhonda told the In Seine Newsletter. “Notsure if they were shot there or dumped as there is no evidence of thateither, just scattered.” “This is sick, inhumane and gives responsible hunters a bad name.Reality is we may not know who did it and may never catch the personbut maybe residences nearby can keep an eye out,” continued Rhonda. If anyone has information on this senseless crime please contact theSteinbach RCMP at 204-326-1234.

While walking through the mall the other day, my 3 year oldson said, “Mama, is this the mall?”“Sure is,” I replied. He then stopped in his tracks and said (with arms wavingand a funny British accent), “Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who is the most beautiful of the-mall?”

My 3 1/2 year-old daughter was playing with her toddlerbrother one afternoon when she came running up to me,upset.Syd: Mom, he bit my cheek.Me: That’s terrible! What should we do about it?Syd: I think we should give him back to the doctor! After explaining to her that he’s OUR baby and we can’tgive him back to the doctor, she suggested we try returninghim to the hospital!

Old Ms. Robinson went out into her backyard to do some gardening whenshe heard some noise coming from the yard next door. She peered over thefence and saw that her neighbor’s little daughter was digging a hole. “Sally what are you doing with that shovel?” asked Ms. Robinson. “My goldfish died, so I’m burying him,” replied young Sally. “Oh that’s tragic. I’m very sorry for your loss. But why are you digging sucha big hole for your goldfish?” asked Ms. Robinson. ”Because your darn cat ate it!” replied Sally.
