SHOOTING STARS AT THE SHOPS AT WAILEA
Jason Wade, lead singer of the band Lifehouse, recently stopped in to say aloha at Celebrites Gallery of Fine Celebrity Art. Pictured here with gallery manager Herb Coshak, the rocker acquired artwork by Mick Fleetwood and John Lennon.
Stand up comedian Dane Cook also recently visited Celebrites accompanied by playmate girlfriend Amanda Cerny (not shown), Playboy Playmate of the Month for October 2011.
Friend of the gallery Arnold Schwarzenegger also stopped in to talk story with owner and artist Gerard Marti (pictured). Here, Gerard holds up a photo taken of the two on Schwarzenegger’s visit in 2010.
Rock icon and American Idol judge Steven Tyler stopped by Black Pearl Gallery. After learning all about black pearls from manager Rena Phillips (pictured), he selected a strand for him-self and another for a friend.
Other celebrity visitors include Vanessa Hudgens, who picked up a dress and other goodies from The Enchantress Boutique / Fifi & Bootzie last month.

LETTER FROM THE G.M.
The 10th anniversary of 9/11 dominated the news for several weeks and not surprisingly generated emotions on varied levels and from different ideologies. Some of my emotion was reflecting back to my son serving four tours in Afghanistan. On the anniversary, if even for just a brief moment, we once again put aside our political and philosophical differences and came together as a country. I thought that felt pretty good.
We hear every day how lucky we are to live in a place as special as Maui; in fact I’m chided about it at least once a week from friends on the Mainland. But even paradise wouldn’t be paradise if we didn’t have our freedoms, to live our lives as we choose, to worship as we wish, to watch the sun set or the moon rise as free Americans. The next time you see a person in uniform make a small investment of your time and shake their hand, and thank them for the job they do. Remember that our liberty as well as our freedom to enjoy the paradise we call Maui is a result of their service.

RENA PHILLIPS
of BLACK PEARL GALLERY
began her career at the gallery in 2001 when The Shops at Wailea opened. Passionate about pearls, Maui-born Rena takes pride in shar-ing her knowledge and aloha with visitors and kama’aina alike.
“When I was born, the elders gave me the Hawaiian name Leimomi, which means garland of pearls,” said Rena. “There is no doubt that I’m exactly where I belong.”
Rena dances hula, studies Hawaiian language and culture, loves to walk the South Maui beaches with her husband Scott, and says being surrounded by the most beauti-ful pearls in the world on the most enchanting island anywhere makes her life a blessing.
