Hello Hazelwood Families – We have so much to look forward to this year. The school year is off to a great start. We kicked off the fall with the Walk-a-Thon on the 1 st of Octo- ber. We had a great volunteer turn out. THANK YOU! The kids had a super time and the weather stayed dry and pretty nice. We are selling the Entertainment books from October 6 th through October 20 th . Prices have gone up from $20 to $25 this year, but it is still a GREAT value with lots of deals. Make sure to take a look at the book we send home with your child. The Fall Costume Party will be on October 29 th , so save the date. We are looking for individually wrapped candy donations for the party. There is a donation box in the office. I am really hoping we can get as many families as possible to join the PTA this year. So, if you haven’t turned in your membership yet. Please get it in. The PTA and the VIP programs are working closely together and there are so many different opportu- nities to get involved. Hazelwood is a COMMUNITY OF LEARNERS.

This year, one of the many things our staff and students is exploring is what it means to be a COMMUNITY OF LEARNERS. This phrase is the first part of something we call, “The Hazelwood Way.” In part, I think it means that everyone who steps onto the campus of Hazelwood is a learner. We are all works in progress, chil-dren and adults. We’re all in process; changing and growing. We’re all focused on improving our knowledge and skills. We’re all committed to mastering basic academics and the essential learning requirements of the state. Plus we are together. We believe that learning is done best when done with others – in community. We are in this great educational endeavor together. Please join me as a vital member of the Hazelwood COM-

MUNITY OF LEARNERS! Together, we can help the learning at Hazelwood go “off the charts!” - Dr. Parnell

Walk a thon

A big thank you goes out to the kids for walking and raising funds for the PTA. We would also like to thank the Staff for allowing the kids to walk during the school day. Thank you parents for supporting the kids for this fundraiser!! We couldn't have done it without our adult volunteers either!! We raised over $4100 this year. This will help us fund our various activities for the year!! (Below are some photos at the event) There were two classes that raised the most and won a rootbeer float party!! The K-3 winner was Mr. Burrows class

and the 4-6 grade winner was Ms. Cuba. Way to go!!
