ROUNDUP, WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 16, 2016 3AMNAXLP
By Roland Achenjang, Pharmacy DirectorOctober is National Phar-
macy Month and the per-fect time to remind you that pharmacists and technicians at Sidney Health Center’s Clinic Pharmacy have built a reputation in the community as the friendliest and fast-est pharmacy in town. Clinic Pharmacy patients often wait less than ten minutes to get their prescriptions filled. This is very impressive considering the pharmacy fills on average 200 prescriptions per day or 6,000 prescriptions in a month!
The Clinic Pharmacy staff is able to accomplish this because they possess more than 100 years of combined pharmacy experience in the community. The experience and longevity has solidified personal relationships with customers, which enables the staff to provide a personal experience unlike any other pharmacy in the area. Still, the Clinic Pharmacy does more than simply fill prescriptions.
Behind the scenes, the staff is part of a large and comprehensive pharmacy ser-vices department. As part of Sidney Health Center, the staff is able to interact with other
pharmacists and technicians that take care of you or your loved ones that are admitted in the hospital, residents at Sidney Health Center’s Ex-tended Care facility, those in need of durable medical equip-ment, or patients receiving chemotherapy at the Cancer Center. Furthermore, the staff collaborates with your primary care physicians, emergency physicians, nurses, social workers, and lab technicians to optimize patients’ medica-tion therapy. Even with this breadth of services the phar-macy department continues to seek new ways to improve an individual’s overall health.
The pharmacy staff re-cently started providing Med-ication Therapy Management (MTM) services to patients. MTM services provide yet another opportunity for the staff to work one-on-one with patients to answer any medi-cation-related questions and ensure medications are taken as intended. This will not only optimize patients’ therapy, but result in improved outcomes for the patients.
October is National Phar-macy month and a good time to drop by the Clinic Pharmacy to show appreciation to the
pharmacy staff for the im-portant work they do, as drug experts, to improve the health of those we serve. Plan to visit the Clinic Pharmacy for an open house event on Thurs-day October 20th, 2016 from 10 AM to 2 PM to meet and greet new and familiar staff members, and see its newly renovated space. Coffee and light snacks will be provided.

PUBLIC OPPORTUNITY TO PROTEST TRANSFER
OF OWNERSHIP OF MONTANA
ALL-ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES LICENSE
Quad Treasure, Inc. (Bethanie J. Lohman, Owner)
has applied to transfer ownership of Montana
All-Alcoholic Beverages License No. 17-999-6894-001 currently operating
at Black Gold Casino, 26 U.S. Highway 2, Building #2, Bainville, Roosevelt County. The public may
protest this license transfer in accordance with the law.
Who can protest this transfer? Protests will be accepted from residents of the county of the proposed
location (Roosevelt), residents of adjoining
Montana counties (Richland, McCone, Valley, Daniels and Sheridan), and residents of
adjoining counties in another state if the criteria in 16-4-207(4)(d), Montana Code
Annotated (MCA), are met.
What information must be included? Protest letters must be legible and contain (1) the protestor’s full name, mailing address, and street
address; (2) the license number (17-999-6894-001) and the applicant’s name (Quad Treasure, Inc.); (3) an indication that the letter is intended as a protest; (4) a description of the grounds
for protesting; and (5) the protestor’s signature. A letter with multiple signatures will be considered one protest
letter.
What are valid protest grounds? The protest may be based on the
applicant’s qualifications listed in 16-4-401, MCA, or the grounds for denial of
an application in 16-4-405, MCA. Examples of valid
protest grounds include: (1) the applicant is unlikely to operate the establishment in compliance with the law; (2) the proposed location
cannot be properly policed by local authorities; and (3) the welfare of the people in the vicinity of the proposed
location will be adversely and seriously affected.
How are protests submitted? Protests
must be postmarked to the Department of Revenue,
Office of Dispute Resolution, P.O. Box 5805, Helena,
Montana 59604-5805 on or before November 7, 2016.
What happens if the transfer is protested?
Depending on the number of protests and the protest grounds, a public hearing will be held in Helena or
Bainville. All valid protestors will be notified of the
hearing’s time, date and location. Hearings typically
are scheduled within 90 days. A protester’s hearing testimony is limited to the grounds in the protester’s
letter. Following the hearing, the Department of Revenue will notify the public whether
the license transfer is approved or denied.
How can additional information be obtained? The cited MCA statutes are online at leg.mt.gov/bills/mca_toc/. Questions may
be directed to Michael Sell, Compliance Specialist for
the Department of Revenue’s Liquor Control Division, at
(406) 444-3505 [email protected].

MT Department of Revenue Reminds Businesses to Submit Unclaimed Property Report
The Montana Department of Revenue would like to remind businesses throughout the state that the deadline for submitting an annual unclaimed property report is November 1. Montana law requires businesses to submit the report if they are holding unclaimed property. The deadline applies to all businesses except life insurance companies, whose deadline is May 1.
“The report is an essential tool we have to make sure busi-nesses that are holding unclaimed property transfer the property to the state. Then we can get that property to its rightful owner,” says Jim McKeon, Unclaimed Property Program Manager at the Department of Revenue.
The department encourages businesses to submit their un-claimed property report electronically through the free Montana ePass File Transfer Service. Businesses can do so by going online to revenue.mt.gov, clicking the Online Services button,

“These payments will help provide reassurance to N.D. farm families, who are standing strong against low commodity prices compounded by unfavorable growing conditions. N.D. FSA will

Everything Roundup on
the web.
By Meagan DotsonHaving been born and
raised in Richland County, agriculture has had a lasting impression on me, and still does. As a child, my mom and grandma leased their land to wheat farmers, but it was beet farming that I really have memories of. My mom started driving beet truck in 1984 when she was pregnant with me. She worked for Tom, Montie, and Steve Lorenz for six years, and for Simards. I have distant memories of rid-ing in those dusty trucks. Seat belts were always mandatory, but in those old trucks you really needed to wear one to keep from hitting your head on the roof! I remember playing in a particular thicket next to one
with my hair full of cockleburs,
which took my mom more than an hour to get out of my hair. Personal hair loss aside, it was interesting to me, how these dirty beets pulled from the ground could go through this stinky factory, and then there was sugar!
After I got married and became a mom, sugar beets once again surfaced in my life. I worked two years in the tare lab, getting to be a small part of the odious magic that happens within the factory. I worked on the testing side; the belt station was my favorite, mixing the beet samples as they came down the belt so they could be tested for sugar content. I also got to meet a lot of people that I otherwise might-not-have, some of whom I still bump into. I wonder if my oldest son has memories of me coming home smelling like the factory, or more appropriately, smelling
this neck of the woods?Sugar beets have played
a vital roll in the agriculture and development of this area,
along with many other crops, and that plays a role in all other aspects of life in this region.Whether a person thinks they have anything to do with sugar beets or not, the truth is thatthey probably impact you morethan you realize in terms of economy and the sustainabil-ity of our community.
since I worked at the factory, and even more since I got to hitch a ride in a beet truck. I hear that there are regulations
allowed. Hooray for being born in the eighties so that I could get a small taste of the workand time that went into beetharvest.
These days it plays no less a role in my life, becausewhat am I doing now? Writing stories about sugar beet pro-ducers and Sidney Sugars!

By Meagan DotsonCelebrate 2016 as the
International Year of Puls-es! Pulse crops, that is, and there are plenty of reasons to celebrate because Montana and North Dakota are the two leading states for pulse crop production, such as dry peas and lentils. Montana and North Dakota are responsible for 80% of all dry pea and lentil production.
Pulse crops are good for the farmer because they provide an income opportunity when the prices of grain crops are down, and pulse crops planted in rotation with other crops are shown to increase yields. Pulses are also great for breaking up disease cycles, and they put nitrates back into the soil, both of which save the producer money by cutting their input costs.
Pulses are good for the consumer because they are a high-fiber plant protein,
effective. As our society be-comes more health conscious, and fractionation incorporates pulse crops into flour and cereals, the domestic market has begun to grow. As acreage increases, receiving and ship-ping facilities are established, such as the one opened by ITC International Inc. in Glen-dive, MT.
because pulse prices have re-mained strong,” said Shannon Berndt, Executive Director of the Northern Pulse Growers Association. “But, increasing the domestic market has been a challenge because consum-
do with them.”And what does one do
with a can of chickpeas or
bag of lentils? Those very questions are why the United Nations declared 2016 the Year of International Pulses. The Northern Pulse Growers Association which represents pulse growers in North Dakota and Montana, are focused on informing people about
importance in the world-wide market, and how to cook with them. Pulses are great for crockpots, and can easily be incorporated in time-saving freezer meals. They are quick, convenient, and can easily be-come a go-to 30-minute meal after a busy day.
Formerly North Dakota Dry Pea & Lentil Association, Montana growers voted to join up with the neighboring state, establishing the North-ern Pulse Growers Associ-ation in 2007. They work in cooperation with the USA Dry Pea & Lentil Council on domestic and international marketing. In 2016, the USA Dry Pea & Lentil Council joined Pulse Canada, with a North American branding campaign. International exports continue to be the largest market for pulse crops, however Berndt commented the industry would love to see that change.

By Meagan DotsonIn 2003 Beau Anderson made a decision that would change
the way he farmed. The price of wheat was down; durum was only selling for $3.35 a bushel, but lentils were selling for $.12 per pound. State and federal legislation had recently made it possible for pulse crops to be insured, and so it seemed like the perfect time to try something new.
