Object Pronouns

2

The Object Pronouns you have met so far have been

Direct Object Pronouns.

That is, they have been usedto replace the Direct Object

in a sentence.

Here’s a reminder.

Page 3: Object Pronouns 3

3

Je l’aime

Subject Verb

ObjectPronounReminder

Object Pronouns are placed immediately in front of the Verb.

Page 4: Object Pronouns 3

4

They are usually placed in front of the Verb.

In other words, they precede the Verb.

We therefore call themPreceding Direct Object

Pronouns

8

Why

Direct Objects?

Page 9: Object Pronouns 3

9

I love Sarah

Nothing between Verb and

Object

Thisis therefore a Direct Object

You can “travel” from the Verb to the Object without obstruction. Your “journey” is therefore direct.

Page 10: Object Pronouns 3

10

I love her

And thisis a Direct

Object Pronoun

Page 11: Object Pronouns 3

11

Je l’aime

So is this. It’s a PDO.

P = Preceding (coming before) the verb D = DirectO = Object

Page 12: Object Pronouns 3

12

Now for

Indirect Objects

Page 13: Object Pronouns 3

13

I write to Sarah

to between Verb and

Object

Thisis therefore an Indirect Object

To “travel” from the Verb to the Object you have to “go around” to. Your “journey” is therefore indirect.
