Message from the Principal

May is a busy month at Oakwood. We have

the EQAO testing at the end of the month

for our grade three and grade six students,

there are many trips and classroom activities

planned as well as Track and Field for sports. For

dates and times be sure to refer to the calendar

for the month.

Our focus on student problem solving in Math is

continuing, and we urge you to challenge your kids

with their math 'thinking'. During Education Week

(April 30-May 4) we’ll reflect on how far we’ve

come, we’ll celebrate our successes and we’ll set our

sights high.

It seems that the year is quickly coming to an end,

but there is still lots to do at this busy time. We

always appreciate the support we receive from the

parents and community at

Oakwood, and we are lucky to have

Track &

Field Day

We will be

holding our

annual Track

and Field meet at Port Colborne

High School, on May 1st. Please

return you child’s consent form as

soon as possible.

Students will need to bring their

lunch and snacks for the day, with

them to the field. Please ensure

students dress appropriately for the

weather and the days events,

including proper footwear, hats and

sunscreen.

For the safety of our students, no

one will be permitted to leave the

high school premises for lunch,

unless a parent or guardian picks

them up and drops them off. We

would ask parents to notify their

child’s teacher if they plan to do so,

in advance.

We welcome parent volunteers

who are able to assist at the high

school on this day. Please contact

Mr. Wilson or the office if you are

available to help. In the event of bad

weather we have a rain date sched-

uled for May 2nd.

Good Luck to our Athletes!

Connect Conference

On Wednesday, April 25th, we had 6 girls involved I events

at the Connect 2018 Conference in Niagara Falls. Two

grade 6 girls, Hanah and Keira attended a Girls Technology

Camp sponsored by IBM. The camp focused on STEM

(Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). Four grade

8 girls, Carly, Mackenzie, Reese and Jasmin, set up a booth

to present their work on Technovation, where students

developed an “app”. They were able to share their ideas

and work with the conference attendees. They all did a

great job of representing Oakwood School in the larger

community.
