Blessed Trinity Catholic School Pilgrimage to the

Holy Door of Mercy at the Cathedral of Saint Mary As we approach the closure of the Extraordinary Year of Mercy on November 20, 2016, we would like to give our students the opportunity to cross the Holy Door of Mercy and, by doing so, obtain all the graces that are granted through that great gift. On THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 3RD, we will do a pilgrimage to the Cathedral of Saint Mary, which is the Mother Church of our Archdiocese, and one of the churches blessed with the designation of a Holy Door. We will have Holy Mass, followed by a short presentation given by the Rector of the Cathedral, Fr. Christopher Marino. We will all cross the Holy Door and pray together for the intentions of our Holy Father, Pope Francis. All classes from 3rd through 7th grade are invited.

Jubilee Year of Mercy

Today’s Gospel graces us with a beautiful prayer that can make every day of our lives a jubilee of mercy: “O God, be merciful to me a sinner” (Luke 18:13). Religious Israelites despised the tax collector who prayed it, for collaborating with Gentile occupiers and handling currency that bore the “divine” emperor’s graven image. But the Pharisee’s long-winded self-congratulation, mixed with self-righteous condemnation, was no “prayer” at all. “The Pharisee . . . spoke this prayer to himself” (18:11, emphasis added). Praying the tax collector’s simple, sincere, succinct cry for mercy acknowledges our own sinfulness, and “welcomes” other sinners as brothers and sisters with whom we can identify, even empathize, echoing Pope Francis’ famous comment about not being the one to judge. Indeed, the tax collector “went home justified” (18:14), that is, restored to God’s friendship, for God’s mercy is not prize achieved but gift received. “Let your prayer be brief: for tax collector, prodigal son, and dying thief were all reconciled to God by a single phrase!” (Saint John Climacus, 7th century).

Virtus Session at Blessed Trinity

Virtus training sessions run approximately three hours long. Due to the subject matter, children are not allowed in the sessions. Participants will not be allowed to enter if arriving late, nor will their attendance be counted if they leave early. To register for a Virtus "Protecting God's Children for Adults" session, log in to www.virtusonline.org and click on the green box "first time registrant" located on the left hand side of the page. Next choose “View a list of sessions”. Choose Miami, FL (Archdiocese) as the location and then view a list of sessions available. Choose a session and follow the prompts.

The Community Outreach Ministry at Blessed Trinity is collecting the items specified below to be donated to the Sisters of Charity, that every year prepare Thanksgiving dinner baskets for poor families. Let us help this congregation that, inspired by St. Teresa of Calcutta, helps so many in need of food and love.
