TODAY'S LITURGY: EPIPHANY OF THE LORD

Station at the Crib Today a star leads the wise men to the manger there they worship the new born King.... Arise, shine forth for your light has come R: And the glory of the Lord has risen upon you. Nations shall come to walk in your light R: And Kings to the brightness of your rising. They shall come bearing gifts, gold and frankincense, R: And proclaim the praise of the Lord. Your gates will lie open continually R: Shut neither by day nor by night. Nor will the sun give you daylight nor moonlight shineupon you. R: But the Lord will be your everlasting light. Processional Hymn: We Three Kings

We three kings of Orient are; Bearing gifts we traverse afar, Field and fountain, moor and mountain, Following yonder star. Refrain O star of wonder, star of light, Star with royal beauty bright, Westward leading, still proceeding, Guide us to thy perfect light. Born a king on Bethlehem’s plain Gold I bring to crown Him again, King forever, ceasing never, Over us all to reign.

Glorious now behold Him arise; King and God and sacrifice; Alleluia, Alleluia, Sounds through the earth and skies. P: The Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, who by the bright shinning of a Star, is revealed this day to the Nations, be with you. R: And with your spirit. P: Beloved, Today the Maji kneel in humble submis-sion before the Savior. Let us also kneel in humble adoration, confessing our sins, that we may be lead for faithfully to the great Feast of Heaven. The Wise men came from the east to worship the Christ Child and to offer gifts in adoration. Lord have mercy: Lord have mercy

Before the King of Kings they offer Gold, and behold him who will rule the nations with the rod of justice,

Christ have mercy: Christ have mercy

They worship the True God with the offering of In-cense, and acknowledge his Death for our Salvation with Myrrh. Lord have mercy: Lord have mercy

May Almighty God have mercy upon you for you your sins and by the Holy Epiphany guide your steps through the night of this world to the light everlast-ing. Amen

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will. We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father. Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us; you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer; you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, + in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

THE COLLECT OF THE DAY

THE WORD OF GOD A Reading from the Prophecy of Isaiah 60:1-6

Rise up in splendor, Jerusalem! Your light has come, the glory of the Lord shines upon you. See, darkness covers the earth, and thick clouds cover the peoples; but upon you the LORD shines, and over you appears his glory. Nations shall walk by your light, and kings by your shining radiance. Raise your eyes and look about; they all gather and come to you: your sons come from afar, and your daughters in the arms of their nurses. Then you shall be radiant at what you see, your heart shall throb and overflow, for the rich-es of the sea shall be emptied out before you, the wealth of nations shall be brought to you. Caravans of camels shall fill you, dromedaries from Midian and Ephah; all from Sheba shall come bearing gold and frankincense, and proclaiming the praises of the LORD. The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God

Gradual Psalm 72 R. Lord, every nation on earth will adore you. O God, with your judgment endow the king, and with your justice, the king's son; He shall govern your people with justice and your afflicted ones with judgment. R. Lord, every nation on earth will adore you. Justice shall flower in his days, and profound peace, till the moon be no more. May he rule from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth. R. Lord, every nation on earth will adore you. The kings of Tarshish and the Isles shall offer gifts; the kings of Arabia and Seba shall bring tribute. All kings shall pay him homage, all nations shall serve him. R. Lord, every nation on earth will adore you. For he shall rescue the poor when he cries out, and the afflicted when he has no one to help him. He shall have pity for the lowly and the poor; the lives of the poor he shall save. R. Lord, every nation on earth will adore you. A reading from the Epistle of St Paul to the Ephesians 3:2-3a, 5-6 Beloved, You have heard of the stewardship of God's grace that was given to me for your benefit, namely, that the mystery was made known to me by revela-tion. It was not made known to people in other gener-ations as it has now been revealed to his holy apos-tles and prophets by the Spirit: that the Gentiles are coheirs, members of the same body, and copartners in the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel. The Word of the Lord, R: Thanks be to God. Alleluia, (Matt 2:2) We saw his star at its r ising and have come to do him homage. Alleluia

The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to St Matthew 2:1-12

When Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, in the days of King Herod, behold, magi from the east ar-rived in Jerusalem, saying, "Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star at its rising and have come to do him homage." When King Herod heard this, he was greatly troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. Assembling all the chief priests and the scribes of the people, He inquired of them where the Christ was to be born. They said to him, "In Bethle-hem of Judea, for thus it has been written through the prophet: And you, Bethlehem, land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; since from

you shall come a ruler, who is to shepherd my people Israel." Then Herod called the magi secretly and ascertained from them the time of the star's ap-pearance. He sent them to Bethlehem and said, "Go and search diligently for the child. When you have found him, bring me word, that I too may go and do him homage." After their audience with the king they set out. And behold, the star that they had seen at its rising preceded them, until it came and stopped over the place where the child was. They were overjoyed at seeing the star, and on entering the house they saw the child with Mary his mother. They prostrated themselves and did him homage. Then they opened their treasures and offered him gifts of gold, frankin-cense, and myrrh. And having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed for their country by another way. The Gospel of the Lord, R: Praise to You Lord Jesus Christ. THE NICEAN CREED

I believe in one God, R: The Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, (ALL BOW) and by the Holy Spirit was Incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life + of the world to come. Amen

THE INTERCESSIONS:

P: Enter ing in, the Magi found the Child with Mary, His Mother. They fell prostrate before Him and offered their gifts. Let us offer to Christ our prayers and petitions. Our response will be: HEAR US O LORD

Today, the Wise Men came to Bethlehem to render their homage to Christ, the New Born King. We pray for Pope , our Bishop and for all Priests and Deacons. May all who guide the Church be strengthened in their ministry as they lead us into a deeper knowledge and love of Christ. Led by the Light of Faith we pray: HEAR US O LORD

Today, the stars shine brightly before the magi leading them to Christ. We pray for those who lead the nations. Grant us lasting peace. May we be guided always by the light of compassion and mercy. Seeking Your Kingdom we pray: HEAR US O LORD

Today, the Wise Men greet the Christ Child with Mary, His Mother and Joseph her chaste spouse. May we discover the face of God in the many faces of our brothers and sisters. United in Charity we pray: HEAR US O LORD

Today, the Wise Men offer the Child gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. May the greed of the individuals and nations give way to a season of equality and justice for all peoples. Striving for justice we pray: HEAR US O LORD

Watch over those wo today serve our nation in the Armed Forces, for all police and other emergency workers. Protect them in Your love and shield them from all harm. Grant us peace in our time. Working for Peace we pray: HEAR US O LORD

Today, the Wise Men come seeking the New Born King. We pray for all who seek the face of God in times of suffering and pain. Persevering in Hope we pray: HEAR US O LORD

Grant blessed rest to the faithful departed, who sought and found Christ in life, and are known by Him in eternity. With Trustful assurance we pray: HEAR US O LORD

P: Almighty and everlasting God, You have revealed the Incarnation of Your Son by the bright shinning of a star which led the Wise Men to offer costly gifts in adoration. Let the star of Your justice give light to our hearts, that we may give as our treasure all that we possess and all that we are, through Jesus Christ our Lord. AMEN

THE HOLY SACRIFICE Offertory Hymn As with gladness, men of old Did the guiding star behold As with joy they hailed its light Leading onward, beaming bright So, most glorious Lord, may we Evermore be led to Thee.

As they offered gifts most rare At that manger rude and bare; So may we with holy joy, Pure and free from sin’s alloy, All our costliest treasures bring, Christ, to Thee, our heavenly king.

Holy Jesus, every day Keep us in the narrow way; And, when earthly things are past, Bring our ransomed souls at last Where they need no star to guide, Where no clouds Thy glory hide.

Communion Hymn What star is this, with beams so bright, More lovely than the noonday light? ’Tis sent to announce a newborn King, Glad tidings of our God to bring.

’Tis now fulfilled what God decreed, From Jacob shall a star proceed; And lo! the Eastern sages stand To read in heaven the Lord’s command.

While outward signs the star displays, An inward light the Lord conveys, And urges them, with force benign, To seek the Giver of the sign.

O, while the star of heavenly grace Invites us, Lord, to seek Thy face, May we no more that grace repel, Or quench that light which shines so well!

Page 5: O Come let us Adore Him, Christ the Lord.

The Blessing of Chalk for Epiphany P: Our help is in the name of the Lord. All: Who made heaven and earth. P: The Lord be with you. All: And with your spirit. P: Let us pray: Bless, O Lord God, + this creature chalk to render it helpful to us. Grant that they who use it in faith and with it, inscribe upon the entrance of their homes the names of Your Blessed Saints, Caspar, Melchior and Bal-thasar. May they who use it and the homes they mark, through the merits and intercession of the Holy Magi, enjoy health of body and Protection of soul. Through Christ our Lord. All: Amen. it is sprink led with holy water

The Blessing May God the Father, who led the Wise Men by the shining of a star to find the Christ, the Light from Light, lead you in your pilgrimage to find the Lord. Amen.

May God who has delivered us from the dominion of dark-ness give us a place with the saints in light in the kingdom of his beloved Son. Amen.

May the light of the glorious gospel of Christ shine in your hearts and fill your lives with his joy and peace. Amen.

And the blessing of God almighty, the + Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be upon you and remain with you al-ways. Amen.

Recessional Hymn: CREDO 149 Br ightest and Best Brightest and best of the sons of the morning, Dawn on our darkness and lend us Thine aid; Star of the East, the horizon adorning, Guide where our infant Redeemer is laid.

Say, shall we yield Him, in costly devotion, Odors of Edom and offerings divine? Gems of the mountain and pearls of the ocean, Myrrh from the forest, or gold from the mine?

Vainly we offer each ample oblation, Vainly with gifts would His favor secure; Richer by far is the heart’s adoration, Dearer to God are the prayers of the poor.

Remember, that through the Epiphany Season our Christ-mas joy continues until February 2, the Feast of Candle-mas, which bring the Celebration of Christmas to a Close.

BLESSING OF OUR HOMES AT EPIPHANY

with Blessed Chalk This blessing of the home and inscription of the ini-tials of the three Magi above each door can be per-formed by the head of the family. The feast of mani-festation, or Epiphany, traditionally celebrated the 12th day after Christmas, January 6th. In the dioceses of the United States this feast has been moved to the Sunday between January 2 and January 8. This custom is a Slavic (Eastern European) tradition. It reminds us of the Jews who marked the doorpost of their homes as Passover. So we pray that out homes marked with the Blessed Chalk will be pro-tected through the coming year . All the family or friends may enter into this blessing, Another form is to use a Christmas Card you re-

ceived of the 3 Kings and write the inscription on the back of the Card and place the card over the door. (this is how we always did it in our home)

At the front door of the home: Leader: Peace be to this house. All: And to all who dwell here. All: From the east came the Magi to Bethlehem to adore the Lord; Leader: and opening their treasures they offered precious gifts: ALL: Gold for the great King, Incense for the true God, and Myrrh in symbol of His burial. Leader: Our Father ALL: Who art in Heaven…. Leader: All they from Saba shall come. All: Bringing Gold and Frankincense. Leader: O Lord, hear my prayer . All: And let my cry come to You. Leader: Let us pray. O God, who by the guidance of a star did on this day manifest Your only begotten Son to the Gentiles mercifully grant that we who know You by faith also attain the vision of Your glorious majesty. Through Christ our Lord. All: Amen Leader: Be enlightened, O Jerusalem, for your light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon you, Jesus Christ born of the Virgin Mary. All: And the gentiles shall walk in thy light and kings in the splendor of Your rising, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you. Leader: Let us pray. Bless, O Lord God Almighty, this home, from all trouble and harm, and that in it there may be health, purity, the strength of victory, humility, good-ness and mercy, and the fulfillment of Your law. May all who pass in and out of this door be protected and shielded in your Divine Love. ALL: Praise and thanksgiving to God the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. Leader: May this blessing remain upon this home and upon all who dwell here. Through Chr ist our Lord. All: Amen Taking the Blessed Chalk, the head of the family writes on the lintel of the door post, or on the back of a Christmas card with the depiction of the three kingdoms, which would then be placed over the door lintel; these following words. As Caspa. (make a large C) Melchior (make a large M) and Balthasar (make a large B) brought gifts to the Christ child, so in this year 2018 (put the 20 in front of the inscription and the 21 at the end). May God Bless and protect from all harm, this house and all who dwell here, and all who pass through this door. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. (put a cross after each initial of the Wise men.) ALL: Amen The end result should look like this. The blessed chalk may be kept or placed in the garden.__\
