CookieTots is a cooking specific child development programme for children aged 2 – 4 years, based around preparing and enjoying food.
Our class leaders bring exciting, practical and interactive lessons about healthy eating through storytelling, games and activities.
Each of our sessions is designed to tie in with the Foundation Stage of the National Curriculum and we aim to achieve the 5 Every Child matters outcomes of staying safe, being healthy, enjoying and achieving, making a positive contribution and achieving economic well-being.
What’s Cooking with CookieTots?

Our classes last approx 45 minutes and take into account any dietary requirements for health or religious purposes. We provide aprons, utensils and ingredients and visit you during the nursery school day.
CookieTots ClassEach class begins with the CookieTots warm-up routine as the children pretend to crack eggs, knead bread and roll pastry to the CookieTots theme tune.
Next Katy Custard (our CookieTots hand puppet) gives out picture recipe cards and the children help her to identify the ingredients required to prepare the easy-to-make recipes.
The CookieTots then roll-up their sleeves, and join in with music and games based around food and cooking.
At the end of each class we have a “Show and Taste” where children are encouraged to try different foods.

Personal and Social Development
Cooking is an excellent way for children to build confidence as well as teaching them valuable self-help skills and independence. They learn how to work cooperatively with others as they plan, prepare and eat food together.
Communication, Language and Literacy
Children learn how to listen and follow instructions to complete the steps necessary to prepare their food. They get to expand their vocabulary as they learn new words. They are encouraged to work together as a team providing them with opportunities to communicate with others.
Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
A perfect cake needs to look and taste good. To do this we need to follow instructions accurately and use correct measurements. CookieTots get to weigh and measure out ingredients.
Physical Development
Our classes are an excellent way for children to develop and perfect their motor and sensory skills.

Creative Development
Cooking gives children an opportunity to express themselves creatively and each of our classes provides them with opportunities to explore and share their thoughts and ideas through a variety of music, movement and imaginative role-play activities.
Knowledge and Understanding of the World
Children are given opportunities to use a range of kitchen utensils safely and they are encouraged to undertake ‘practical’ experiments and work with a range of materials using all their senses.

Making Healthy Choices
CookieTots classes help children develop the skills to make healthier food choices; give them a taste for new and diverse whole foods; and a willingness and enthusiasm for trying new foods.

“We have been having Cookietots classes in the nursery for a number of years
now on an ad hoc basis throughout the year. Nikki complements the special
events days that we plan in the nursery and also manages to come up with
fun activities and recipes for us - including Chinese New Year, Greek day, Italian
Day and many more. The children absolutely love these classes and are very
proud of what they make to take home. The classes cover all areas of the
Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and prove a good opportunity for
observations. The children’s Personal, Social and Emotional development is
particularly well covered as the children work together taking turns and sharing
equipment. Children get to smell and taste the ingredients which covers
Knowledge and Understanding of the World, Problem Solving, Reasoning and
Numeracy is well covered as the children both weigh and count out spoons of
