Gennum’s 3G-SDI Solutions The most comprehensive, end-to-end portfolio of broadcast video solutions with a commitment towards unmatched performance and signal integrity.

Gennum’s 3G-SDI Serializer/Deserializer Benefits

Include all the SMPTE digital video and analog processing to off-load the FPGA from doing any “heavy lifting” e.g., SMPTE scrambling, CRC & line number insert, raster support, ANC insertion and serialization

Embedded /de-embedded audio functionality such as AES, I2S and serial audio formats

Integrated PLL with narrow loop bandwidth to meet the SMPTE output jitter specs

GS2972 input PCLK can reject up to 300ps of jitter

SMPTE output jitter requirements are <= 0.3UI. The GS29xx chipsets offer output jitter = 0.2UI max and input jitter tolerance (IJT) = 0.7UI min.

1.8V I/O helps to reduce EMI with SSTL resistors that can be controlled to reduce the speed of the rising and falling signal edges

Full-Speed USB Universal Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter SeriesIndustry’s Fastest UART Series with USB 2.0 Compliant Bus InterfaceThe XR21V1410 (V1410), XR21V1412 (V1412), and XR21V1414 (V1414) are enhanced 1-channel, 2-channel and 4-channel Universal Asynchronous Receiver and Transmitter (UART) with a USB interface. The USB interface is fully compliant to Full Speed USB 2.0 specification that supports 12 Mbps USB data transfer rate.

The USB interface also supports USB suspend, resume and remote wakeup operations. The V141x operates from an internal 48MHz clock therefore no external crystal/oscillator is required like previous generation UARTs. With the fractional baud rate generator, any baud rate can accurately be generated using the internal 48MHz clock. The large 128-byte TX FIFO and 384-byte RX FIFO of the V141x helps to optimize the overall data throughput for various applications. The Automatic Transceiver Direction control feature simplifies both the hardware and software for half-duplex RS-485 applications. The multidrop (9-bit) mode with automatic half-duplex transceiver control feature further simplifies typical multidrop RS-485 applications.

The V141x operates from a single 2.97 to 3.63 volt power supply and has 5V tolerant inputs. Virtual COM port drivers for Windows 2000, XP, Vista, and CE, as well as Linux and Mac are supported for the XR21V1410, XR21V1412 and XR21V1414.

14-bit A/D converters designed for digitizing high frequency, wide dynamic

range signals. They are perfect for demanding communications applications

with AC performance that includes 73.1dB SNR and 88dB spurious free

dynamic range (SFDR). Ultralow jitter of 0.15psRMS allows undersampling

of IF frequencies with excellent noise performance.

DC specs include ±1LSB INL (typ), ±0.3LSB DNL (typ) and no missing

codes over temperature. The transition noise is a low 1.2LSBRMS.

The digital outputs are serial LVDS to minimize the number of data lines.

Each channel outputs two bits at a time (2-lane mode). At lower sampling

rates there is a one bit per channel option (1-lane mode). The LVDS drivers

have optional internal termination and adjustable output levels to ensure

clean signal integrity.

The ENC+ and ENC– inputs may be driven differentially or single-ended

with a sine wave, PECL, LVDS, TTL, or CMOS inputs. An internal clock duty

cycle stabilizer allows high performance at full speed for a wide range of

clock duty cycles.

CDR Benefits

Capable of delivering the industry’s lowest power 10Gb/s CDR products to enable high density system architectures

Pin compatible solutions for 10GbE, SONET OC-192 and 8G, 10G and 16G Fibre Channel, means that the overall design efforts are reduced

Gennum’s CDRs are reference clock free, easing the requirements at both the module and system level

Leading input and output jitter performance to create extremely robust backplane and linecard designs

Fully XFP and SFP+ module compliant with low power, reference free architecture

At high frequencies, losses in the channel increase and in moving from a 5Gb/s signal to a 10Gb/s signal the attenuation is 3 times worse. The effect of noise on the signal will therefore be more pronounced meaning a CDR is necessary

GN1406 and GN1407 - Redriver and Retimer Solutions for PCIe Signals across Backplanes and CablesExtend the reach of PCI Express®

PCIe signals running at 2.5Gb/s, 5.0Gb/s and 8.0Gb/s (Gen1, Gen2 and Gen3 respectively) impose tight constraints on systems

and PCB design. Generally speaking, the higher the data rate the shorter the distance a good quality signal can be transmitted. To

compensate for signal attenuation loss and allow trace lengths to be extended, signal conditioning is required in the data path to

adjust signal levels using equalization and de-emphasis techniques. This is where PCIe re-drivers and retimers play an integral part of

any system utilizing PCIe data transport across cables and backplanes. Even at Gen1 data rates today, going beyond 18 inches of

backplane traces becomes very challenging and at Gen2 data rates these re-drivers/retimers become a must.

Gennum’s PCIe Redrivers/Retimers – GN1406 & GN1407 Key Features

Supports x1 and x4 of PCIe channels at Gen1 and Gen2 data rates 19 programmable input equalization settings help to overcome limitations of CATx cabling that create high losses and crosstalk due to lack of shielding Offers transmitter de-emphasis up to 20dB in 0.5dB digital steps Offers 26 programmable output amplitude swings from 0 to 1250mV peak to peak Typical input voltage sensitivity of 40mV differential peak to peak Low jitter and the ability to adjust the amplitude via I2C control Support for spread spectrum clocking and ultra fast electrical idle entry and exit Up to 8 programmable LOS settings allows electrical idle preservation to be properly met The retimer rejects any crosstalk induced jitter - extends the reach in both cable and backplane Reduces jitter on receive side of any incoming parallel fiber optic modules before being fed into the system FPGA/ASICs. 1.2V and 1.8V supply voltages Extended temperature range of -40 to +85 deg.C Package is 56 pin QFN (8x8mm) Typical power consumption of 100mW per channel with equalization and retiming (GN1406) Bit error free performance across long cables (30m) and pcb backplane traces up to 60 inches GN1406 officially listed as PCIe 2.0 compliant GN1407 has all the same features of the GN1406 with the exception of: Gen1, Gen2 and Gen3 data rates supported No Retimer present so lower power and lower cost No output de-emphasis supported No need for external reference clock Reaches 30m of PCIe cable, 5m of CATx cable and 60 inches of FR4 backplane traces Typical power consumption is 70mW per channel so 280mW for all four channels switching (no retiming)

PCIe Applications

Any blade server backplanes and riser cards supporting PCIe Gen1 and Gen2 traffic Next generation of data center servers, storage systems and intelligent networking systems requiring hardware acceleration and virtualized peripherals using PCIe connectivity and form factors Datacom, telecom and storage servers using copper and/or optical interconnects PCIe cable extenders Infiniband SDR/DDR, SAS/SATA and Serial Rapid I/O interconnects IEEE 10G Base-CX4, LX4 and KX4 Parallel Optics (QSFP, SNAP-12, POP-4) Test & Measurement equipment Desktop PCs with dual-graphics Any applications utilizing PCIe cabling or across FR4 backplanes Embedded Single Board Computers (SBCs). LTM2881 - Complete Isolated RS485/RS422 μModule Transceiver + PowerGuards against large ground-to-ground differentials and common mode transients. The LTM®2881 is a complete galvanically isolated fullduplex RS485/RS422 μModule® transceiver. No external components are required. A single supply powers both sides of the interface through an integrated, isolated, low noise, efficient 5V output DC/DC converter.

Coupled inductors and an isolation power transformer provide 2500VRMS of isolation between the line transceiver and the logic interface. This device is ideal for systems where the ground loop is broken allowing for large common mode voltage variation. Uninterrupted communication is guaranteed for common mode transients greater than 30kV/μs.

Maximum data rates are 20Mbps or 250kbps in slew limited mode. Transmit data, DI and receive data, RO, are implemented with event driven low jitter processing. The receiver has a one-eighth unit load supporting up to 256 nodes per bus. A logic supply pin allows easy interfacing with different logic levels from 1.62V to 5.5V, independent of the main supply.

Enhanced ESD protection allows this part to withstand up to ±15kV (human body model) on the transceiver interface pins to isolated supplies and ±10kV through the isolation barrier to logic supplies without latch-up or damage.

Featuring the LTM2881, the demo circuit is a 2500VRMS galvanically isolated RS485/RS422 transceiver interface. All components are integrated into the μModule Transceiver. The demo circuit operates from a supply on VCC and a logic supply on VL. 10A Fully Integrated Synchronous Buck Regulator Featuring SuperThermal™ MOSFETsProgrammable from 400kHz to 2MHz — allowing the customer to optimize designing either for efficiency or for the smallest footprint. The Micrel MIC22950 is a high efficiency 10A integrated switch synchronous buck (step-down) regulator. The MIC22950 switching frequency is programmable from 400kHz to 2MHz, allowing the customer to optimize designing either for efficiency or for the smallest footprint. The MIC22950 achieves more than 95% efficiency while still switching at 2MHz over a broad load range.

The ultra-high speed control loop keeps the output voltage within regulation, even under extreme transient load swings commonly found in FPGAs and low voltage ASICs. The output voltage can be adjusted down to 0.7V in order to address all low voltage power needs. The MIC22950 features a full range of sequencing and tracking options. The EN/DLY and the DELAY pins, combined with the POR/PG pin, allow multiple outputs to be sequenced in several ways during turn on and turn off by using the EN pin. The RC (Ramp Control™) pin allows the device to be connected to any another device in the MIC22x00 family of products, to keep the output voltages within a certain delta V during start up.

The MIC22950 is available in a 32-pin 5mm x 5mm MLF® with a junction operating range from -40°C to +125°C.
