Dear Friends,

Welcome to another competition of Nebraska’s state championship games!

Congratulations to the students who have earned a chance to represent your school at this event. This is a very exciting time, and you should all be proud of all of the time and hard work you put in to get to this point.

Thank you to the coaches, parents and guardians who play an important role in supporting our talented young Nebraskans. Participants, make sure you also thank all of those who have supported you and helped you get to this point in your life.

When students are involved in extracurricular activities they are able to build the character and discipline needed to succeed long after graduation. These outside of the classroom competitions encourage the development of important values such as sportsmanship, hard work, and responsibility.

As you partake in these activities in the upcoming days, remember that it’s not just about winning and that you will take away experience, friends and memories that will last long after your time in high school.

Best wishes for a safe and exciting competition!

Pete Ricketts Governor

Competing for a state championship is the goal of most students who participate in sports and performing arts. So to those high school students who have reached this championship, we say congratulations and good luck!

Students participate in high school sports and performing arts for a wide variety of reason, not the least of which is to have fun. It is important that the NSAA and member schools regularly strive to cultivate high school activities as educational activities. The positive life lessons learned while participating help make the case for sports and activities in our high schools.

Many studies have shown the value of participation. Studies have shown that students not only have the enjoyment of participating in high school activities, but such students generally attain higher academic achievement, exhibit healthier behaviors, experience fewer discipline referrals and drop out of school less frequently. High school activities are, indeed, the other half of education.

The NSAA staff and its member schools are pleased to be able to offer participation opportunities to this state’s high school students in athletics and performing arts activities annually.

Please join us in saluting the students participating in this Championship! The “future” competes here!
