Grandfather Mountain Nature Photography Weekend — 2014 Presentation Topics — SESSION I | Friday, May 30 | 7:45 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Jim Ruff - “THE MANY DIMENSIONS OF GRANDFATHER MOUNTAIN” Ruff will present an exhilarating photo tour of Grandfather Mountain. The emphasis will be on images that highlight the many dimensions of Grandfather Mountain — its iconic profile, natural diversity, wildlife, scenic hiking opportunities and challenging weather conditions. Bring your camera gear and hiking shoes; there might even be a few dramatic surprises to start your weekend. SESSION II | Saturday, May 31 | 4:00 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. Gene Furr - “A MOMENT IN NATURE” Furr’s presentation will cover what it takes to be successful in nature photography, how to think out of the box, what is a moment with content, and how to find contentment within yourself as a photographer, plus many other things. SESSION III | Saturday, May 31 | 6:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Tony Sweet - “INVISIBLE WORLDS” Sweet’s presentation will explore black and white, infrared and panoramic photography, the photographic worlds that cannot be seen when making the image. We will look at what subjects work best, software optimizations and processing techniques, and creative options. SESSION IV | Sunday, June 1 | 9:00 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. John Isaac - “THE ART OF SEEING AND PHOTOGRAPHY” Zen teaches us to “stop, look and listen.” Caring and passion play a big role in photography. We have to understand and observe what we are photographing; only then will our images make meaningful sense. There is a spiritual aspect that guides us to explore and make a photographic statement. As the same time, all photographs do not have to make a heavy statement. Isaac will share his odyssey through 42 years of life in photography. SESSION V | Sunday, June 1 | 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Les Saucier - “MACRO MADE EASY” Macro photographers have a big advantage over other nature photographers. Landscape photographers get up at ungodly hours just to catch a few minutes of golden early morning light, and wildlife photographers spend hours driving to capture elusive moments of their wary subjects. But macro photographers can carry their light source in their pocket, and their wee wildlife subjects are usually as close as their backyard! As macro photographers, we can find great light and subjects at any place and time. Saucier will lead a master class in macro photography, introducing you to the amazing world of macro photography and showing you the best macro gear to buy or make.
