If you have ever thought that living at a Retirement Center means that life will be uneventful, quiet or boring, you need to visit Lakewood Village in Fort Worth! The “Fab Five” pictured on the cover are living life to the fullest! Pictured left to right are Cecil Boyce, Kaye Hutsell, Thelma Hardy, Jodie Roden, and Allee Lewie. These ladies are an excellent example of why it is wise for seniors not to wait to enjoy the freedom and fun of the retirement living lifestyle. “There is less stress living here,” Mrs. Hardy shared. “You don’t have to maintain a household or wash the dishes, and when you come here younger you can really enjoy it. People say they are not ready for retirement living, but they should be ready to enjoy life.” The “Fab Five” ladies particularly enjoy the Mardi Gras party, Spring Fashion show, Luau at the Lake, Camp Week, Family Picnic Day and more! During the Spring Fashion show residents, along with their daugh-ters, granddaughters, and nieces, parade through the dining room in current fash-ions for all to admire, and the event brings in funds to support the year’s activities. These ladies also participate in the wellness programs, fitness classes, craft room and library at Lakewood Village. There are many opportunities for shop-ping, dining out, and going to the theater as well. Resident Jodie Roden said it was a hard decision to sell her home shortly be-fore the recession took its toll on the hous-ing market, but she has never looked back, and never regretted making the decision to move to Lakewood and enjoy her retire-ment years. “I had friends here already,” she said. “And I’ve made new friendships, too. We eat, play games and run around to-gether on a regular basis. You always know there is someone close by when you need them. We celebrate birthdays together, and look after one another.” For more than 25 years, Lakewood Village has been a member of the Christian

Care Centers family of faith-based, not-for-profit communities, currently serving more seniors in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex than any other senior-living organization. Lakewood Village is committed to pro-viding a comfortable lifestyle and many health care services specifically designed for seniors in a loving and compassion-ate environment. Lakewood offers four levels of senior living and care options on a beautiful 51-acre campus, complete with a 5-acre lake. The four levels of care include Retirement Living, Assisted Living, a 48-bed Skilled Nursing/Rehabilitation, and Home Health Care. Leave the hassle of home and yard maintenance behind, and enjoy the freedom of retirement living!! Select from floor plans ranging from 261 square feet to 1,406 square feet, all featuring a full kitch-en. Monthly service fee includes all utilities (except telephone), bi-monthly house-keeping, weekly linen service, transporta-tion to doctor’s appointments anywhere in Tarrant County, continental breakfast plus your choice of lunch or dinner every day, satellite TV (80 channels), emergency pull cords, a variety of planned activities (on and off campus), as well as access to a full time Wellness Director, and over 20 fitness classes, including the acclaimed Posit-Science® Brain Fitness Program. Fall is here and we could not be more excited! Warm rich colors of terra cotta, pumpkin, spice, and chocolate move to the forefront. These warm colors soothe the soul and are very welcoming.

For a fab look, begin building with a great tablecloth in a fall color. Remember that your guests will not only be able to see this linen, but also be able to touch it. Pick out china and complimentary glassware to make a statement for your tablescape. For your centerpiece, think outside the box. With the abundant availability of pumpkins, gourds, and fall foliage, it is easy to throw together a non floral centerpiece. White colored pump-kins give a sophisticated look.

To take it from Fab to Fabulous it’s all about layering. Layering luxurious linens creates depth, dimension, and interest. Pin the tablecloth up at different levels and add in some items of interest, such as flowers, glittered leafs, etc. Add in a fabulous charger plate. Nothing is more elegant than a fully set table with all the glassware. Include a few votive candles, as guests always look their best by candlelight. You can add warm colored chair ties with a floral accent and to make it fabulous. Customize by including place cards or perhaps monogrammed napkins

with your guest’s names. Adding a small gift that the guests can take with them at the end of the evening is always a special treat. This adds to your table décor and will delight your guests.

It is very easy to take a Fab event to a Fabulous event by adding layers of inter-est. The main goal of the evening should be to make your guests feel welcome and comfortable. Always think about your guests.

If you enjoy being creative, have fun; but if decorating adds stress to your event, call a professional to help ease the burden. Hiring an event planner can save you time, energy and money.

Send us your decorating challenges and we will be happy to make sugges-tions. Your question may even be posted in our next article.
