FBC has many events planned to help us all focus on the meaning of the holidays. At this time of year, people are generous in their giſt- giving and more focused on meeting needs. In some ways, the holidays bring out the best in us. Yet, for some in our church family, the holiday season is difficult. For some pain, loss and heartache has changed their world. Loss is magnified during this season. ink of some in our church whose family will experience their first holiday without a loved one. For some, illness lingers. For others, job status may have changed and income reduced. Still others are separated from loved ones by great distance. As we come to the holiday season let’s be especially sensitive to those around us who may be having a difficult time. How can we do this? Let me suggest these ideas: Reach out with a card, call, or visit to someone you know has had a hard year Invite someone who would otherwise go through the holidays alone to share a meal with your family. Give a hug and a shoulder to those who dread this season because it reminds them of loss. Offer to help with decorations, shopping, or cooking for someone whose energy is low at this time of year. While we all have much to be thankful for as we come to the season of celebrating Jesus’ birth, let’s make an extra effort to care for those who are hurting. Doing so will remind us of the message of hope the holidays bring. Don

Erin and Aidan Quinn (children of Breese and Susanne Quinn) have grown up packing shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child. Three years ago, the Quinn Family began volunteering in a big way for OCC by coordinating the central drop-off location in our church’s CLC during National Collection Week. Erin and Aidan (age 14) work alongside their parents volunteering during that week. “One thing we love is it’s a great way to do missions together as a family,” said Erin. “We get excited seeing all the boxes coming in, knowing the joy they will bring to the kids and how many will be saved through the boxes.”Our youth serving together with their families is just one more thing to love about First.
