Housing & Dining Programs sends a general reminder to all residents in regards to avoiding theft of personal belongings:

• Make sure your door is locked and dead bolt secured when you are asleep or not in your space;

• Avoid leaving valuables in sight to others when entering and exiting your room;

• Do not leave any items unattended in the hallways or personal rooms without securing your door.

If you have any concerns with the functioning of your room door/lock, please contact your residence hall desk. We also encourage all residents to contact staff immediately if you notice any unfamiliar or suspicious individuals/ activity happening in the building. You can do this by contacting your front desk, or Public Safety at (202) 885-2527.

Safety in the Residence Halls

HOUSING & DINING PROGRAMS Campus Housing During Thanksgiving Break

The residence halls will remain open over the Thanksgiving Break period, but many of the hall desks will be closed. South Campus residents should use the Anderson/ Centennial Desk (x7700) and North and Tenley Campus residents should use the McDowell Desk (x7706) for any questions, needs or services as well as for access to your residence hall room. Desk operations in all halls will resume on November 25th. Free Flu Shots for Students, Faculty, and Staff The Student Health Center, in partnership with AHealthyU, will again be offering FREE season flu shots to faculty, staff, and students. The 2012-2013 vaccine provides protection against H1N1 influenza and two other influenza viruses. Appointments must be made in advance, and shots will be administered on a first come, first served basis within each 30-minute appointment slot. Please print and complete an influenza consent form. Schedule your appointment at www.american.edu/ocl/healthcenter/Flu-Shot-Information.cfm.

It’s Never Too Early To Think About Summer Wondering what you’re going to do this summer? Looking to stay in DC with free housing while gaining valuable experience? Housing & Dining Programs’ Conference & Residential Services Team will post information about our Summer Leadership Team (SLT) positions the first week of December. Our SLT IS 13 student staff members that work in conjunction with the CRS team to run our on-campus summer conference operations. Keep an eye on our website for more information, including dates for upcoming information sessions. Contact [email protected] with any questions.

Open Room Change Process If you are interested in changing rooms for the spring semester, or are looking to fill a vacancy in your room with another resident, you can participate in the Open Room change process. Anderson Terrace, 1st and 2nd floor residents are invited to participate Tuesday, November 27th from 10am -5pm in the Anderson Conference Room. All other residents can participate Wednesday, November 28th from 10am - 5pm. Please review the process and complete the open room change application located on the Housing and Dining homepage.

Theater of War – November 9, 2012 Theater of War is an innovative project that presents readings of ancient Greek plays as a catalyst for town hall discussions

about the challenges faced by service members, veterans, their families, caregivers, and communities. Join us on Friday, November 9 from 8pm to 10pm for a reading of Sophocles’ Ajax in the Kay Spiritual Center. The performance will be

followed by a panel discussion with audience participation. Admission is free. Seating is limited.

Winter Break Housing Applications Housing will only be available on the Tenley Campus for current residents on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications

will only be considered for 12 noon, Wednesday, December 19, 2012, through 12 noon, Sunday, January 6, 2012. Applications are due by Monday, November 26, 2012 at 5pm. There is a one week minimum stay and a daily

charge of $40.00 per person per night for this service.

fall 2012 semester is Tuesday, December 18th, 2012. Make sure that

all of your packages are delivered on or before that date.
