Message from Mary Vey, Administrative Assistant

Dear Fellow Parishioners, This week we celebrate two great saints, Patrick and Joseph. St. Joseph is especially popular to the Italian people, who celebrate him with a festive feast including fava beans & zeppole. St. Patrick is revered by the Irish, who celebrate him with parades, parties and the wearing of green. We know little about St. Joseph. However, scripture tells us he was “a righteous man.” (Matt 1:18). Joseph was the husband of Mary & foster father to Jesus. He loved Jesus & did his best to make sure that He was safe & well cared for. St. Joseph was a man of compassion & faith. He strived to do the will of God no matter what was asked of him. He remained strong in faith believing that God would protect him & his family. There are many stories and myths about St. Patrick. When he was fourteen, Patrick was captured & enslaved in Ireland for approximately six years. He lived a solitary life and turned to prayer asking God to free him. Upon his escape he returned home to Britain & began his religious training. After his ordination as a priest, Patrick was sent back to Ireland as a missionary. He befriended community leaders & converted many to Christianity. St. Patrick was a humble, pious & gentle man who loved God & the Irish people. Both St. Joseph & St. Patrick are role models for us. Joseph was a loving husband & father who worked hard, watched over and cared for his family. Patrick’s love & devotion to God is a shining example for each of us to follow. Each one of us has the responsibility to care for one another. During Lent we are to: Pray, Fast & Give Alms. Today, volunteers from the Lazarus House will be distributing bags. Please take one, fill it with non-perishable food & bring it back next week. The Camden Diocese Faith-full Food Drive is March 22. All food collected will go to the Lazarus House to assist the less fortunate in our community. “For I was hungry & you gave me something to eat..” (Matt 25:35) Thank you in advance for your generosity. Have a happy St. Patrick & St. Joseph Day! Mary Vey Administrative Assistant

Stewardship

March 15, 2020 God-Centered Stewardship 3rd Sunday of Lent

“Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again.” J 4:13 Jesus reminds us that material things, even something as basic as water, can never satisfy us for long. When we build our lives around material possessions we always want more. True Joy and Peace only comes when we fol-low Jesus; when we become His Stewards, we become more “God-centered” and less “self-centered”.

Holy Hour of Intercession The Youth and Young Adults Office at the Diocese of Camden requested that parishes come together in Intercessory Prayers for our youth. With so many daily distractions and temptations negatively affecting the mind, body, soul and spirit of our young people, it is im-portant that we pray for healthy interactions and correct moral values in their lives. We are therefore providing time each month when parishioners can come together to pray for all children and young adults, as well as all the intentions they hold in their hearts.

Our next holy hour will be Monday, March 16, 2020 (the third Monday of the month),

at 9:00 AM at Kelly Hall

Family Reflection Corner

Weekly Readings Reflections 3rd Sunday of Lent

Choose one of the following activities as a way to further reflect on the Sunday readings:

The Samaritan woman felt free to change be-cause she felt that Jesus loved and accepted her. As a family, talk about how we feel when someone in the family wants us to change. Why does it help when you know that the one who is making the request loves you? Why is it important for us to affirm the good we see in one another? How does knowing Jesus help us to change for the better?

Create a centerpiece for the dinner table on the theme of water. You may want to use a dish of water, a flower to float in the water, or a candle that floats in the water. Go around the table and have family members answer this question. How is Jesus satisfying a thirst of yours?

Liturgy Corner...learn something new or maybe even become inspired !

Priesthood Discernment Group Our Lady of Peace Parsh

32 Carroll Avenue, Williamstown 2:00PM - 3:30PM March 15, 2020

My Path to the Priesthood: When do I start? www.camdenpriest.org

Question: Why does the priest wear different color vestments? Answer: Green: Priests wear green vestments for Masses in Ordinary Time. Green symbolizes hope and life.

White: White is used for a number of feast days, including feasts of the Lord (except for feasts of the Passion), Mary, saints who were not martyrs, and angels. Additionally, it is used during the seasons of Christmas and Easter. White symbolizes joy, light, and purity.

Violet: The color violet is used during the seasons of penitence, Advent and Lent. It can also be used for Masses for the dead. Violet represents penance and mourning. Sometimes, blue will be used in the Eastern rite for Advent instead of violet to symbolize the different penitential nature of Advent.

Red: Red represents both the Holy Spirit and suffering. Priests wear red vestments on Pentecost and confirmations, but also on feasts of suffering, such as feasts of the Lord’s Passion and feasts of the martyrs. Along with these four main colors, there are also rose vestments and black vestments in the Roman rite. Priests may wear rose vestments, symbolizing joy, on Gaudete Sunday during Advent and Laetare Sunday during Lent. They may wear black vestments, representing mourning, on All Souls Day. Liturgical colors and the use of different vestments represent more than just small details to be remembered. The Mass is a sensory experience in which we touch and taste the Eucharist, smell the incense, hear the music and prayers, and see everything happening at the altar. The use of color heightens our experience by evoking certain moods and feelings to contribute to the whole experience of the sacrifice of the Mass.
