Wine and hor d’oeuvres will be served in KnoQ Hall at 6:00 pm followed by Dinner at 6:30 pm. Fr. Dominic Totaro, S.J. , a missionary to Nigeria for eighteen years, will be the speaker. You are invited and there is no charge for the dinner. Catholic Men’s Fellowship from St. Francis Xavier founded and direct the charity “Nothing’s Wasted” in honor of Father Francis (Frank) McGauley S.J., a member of the men’s group for nearly four years and previously a Jesuit missionary in India for 31 years where he iniEated and oversaw the building of churches and schools for some of India’s poorest people. Fr. McGauley died in 2008 a]er a prolonged series of medical setbacks. His life had a profound effect on many people. In his remembrance, the charity was founded in his honor. Fr. McGauley gave us three important tenets to live by. First, be apprecia)ve of everything. Second, always encourage others, so they can become what God had planned for them. And third, God let nothing go to waste; all of our experiences, whether good or bad, are used by God to profit us. Fr. McGauley used to tell stories about the village women in India who would walk a mile or more each day for the water their families needed. The water, typically drawn from a polluted source, such as being tainted with radioacEve uranium, would then be carried back to be used and reused for bathing, drinking, cleaning and cooking food, washing dishes, and finally whatever was le] over would be placed on the small vegetables growing in the gardens behind their huts. Thus, evolved the name given for the charity - “Nothing’s Wasted.” To date, in honor of Fr. McGauley’s life, the monies donated have resulted in the building of 74 wells with addiEonal wells in progress. The goal and focus of “Nothing’s Wasted” is to conEnue to provide addiEonal wells in villages where Fr. McGauley served. The Men’s Groups donates the goods and materials for the dinner and the Jesuit Society transfers and oversees the funds without any administraEve overhead, thus 100% of all donaEons received are used to dig the needed wells.
