Grey Cup Championships

The BC Lions have won six Grey Cups in the years of 1964, 1985, 1994, 2000, 2006, and 2011. In 2011 the Lions won their latest championship under the direction of coach Wally Buono, quarterback Travis Lulay, receiver Geroy Simon, and veterans Angus Reid and Brent Johnson.

Team Name and Logo OriginsThe team name of this historic franchise came about in a fan contest to pick the name. The winner, of course, was the Lions, named after the Lions, a twin mountain peak that can be seen in the north of Vancouver. It was also revealed that “Vancouver” would not be part of the name. The public relations manager, general manager, and head coach of the franchise, Annis Stuckus, decided that the team would represent the whole province of British Columbia. The mountain lion has a connection to the team name and logo. It represents speed, courage, and strength and it is respected by the people of Vancouver.

Home of the BC Lions, renovated in 2011

Our StadiumThe BC Lions’ home when they were founded in 1954 was Empire Field until 1983. Then their home was BC Place until 2009 when they returned to Empire Field while BC Place was being renovated. In 2011, they went back to BC Place once the renovation was finished. This stadium is a top-class stadium and one of the best in North America.
