Holiday Lights 2019Holiday Lights 2019 was a huge turnout for the Inkster Community. 230 participants attended this magical experience. Inkster Community members were treated to pizza, drinks and snacks at Weston Memorial Community. We were thankful for Tony’s Team Transport that drove community members on 6 different buses to the Exhibition Grounds. Families got to see the spectacular lights and designs the grounds displayed and those on the bus were able to get off the buses to stretch their legs and take photos.Community members showed everyone who was involved such gratitude for the event. They expressed how this family outing was magical and peaceful and how they were able to celebrate it with their community and loved ones.We would like to thank all the staff and volunteers that helped make this event successful! Thank you to Weston Memorial Community for allowing us to use their venue. We hope to continue to support Inkster Community with the Holiday Lights event and making even more magical memories for families.

NorWest on Alexander Holiday Dinner

On December 6th NorWest on Alexander (NOA) hosted a holiday dinner. It was a busy day as staff and volunteers prepared food for over 100 community members from Brooklands and Weston. Community members enjoyed eating together and some stayed after dinner was done to sing together. Thanks to all the volunteers who helped with not only preparing the food, but also with decorating, setting up, serving and clean up!For the second year in a row community members were invited to NOA for brunch on Christmas Eve. It was a wonderful time to socialize and relax together. Thanks to the United Way we also had socks and children’s pyjamas to give out!

November was Family violence Awareness Month

“FvAM 2019”On November 25, 2019, the Family Violence Team at NorWest Co-op Community Health hosted their annual event in honor of Family Violence Awareness Month. Elizabete Halprin, Community Development Coordinator, introduced Elder Ivy Chaske. Ivy Chaske gave the opening prayer for the event. This year, NorWest was honoured to have guest speaker Maria Buduhan, Constable with the Winnipeg Police Service, attend and share her personal journey with ending the cycle of violence. The event also featured program participants who shared their stories and messages of hope and healing for others. The event created an opportunity for people in the community to come together to raise awareness about the issue of family violence, the impacts, and why it is important to speak out and get help to stop the violence. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the day possible. If you or anyone you know needs help, please contact the Winnipeg Police Services if it is an emergency or there is immediate danger – 911. To contact someone about support and counselling options, please call 204-940-6624 or 204-938-5900.
