President’s ReportDear NHS Members

As I write this note in early March I want to remindmembers that we have our Annual General Meet-ing (AGM) Wed., Mar. 20 at 7 pm at the Scandina-vian Centre.  Hopefully all the snow that has playedhavoc with our schedules will be done.  This meet-ing will elect the NHS Board members for the com-ing year.  If you are interested in getting involvedwith NHS please give me a call or contact me at:[email protected] I am pleased to report that we had a very successful Raspeball Dinneron Sun., Feb. 24 at the Centre.  Close to one hundred people attended andwe had a delicious meal and door prizes galore thanks to lead organizer CarolMitchell, as well as excellent music from Bo and Bill.  Sonja Busch won the50/50 of nearly two hundred dollars and the balance of the money will go tohonour Evelyn Balen, a long-standing member of NHS who passed away inNov. 2018. In March we have Tacky Taco Night on Fri., Mar.29 at 6 pm.  Taco Fri-days are apparently a big event in Norway (#tacofredag) and this has resultedin tacos overtaking pizza as the meal of choice on Fridays.  This is a club nightopen to everyone and we will be co-hosting the event with the Lower Main-land Sons of Norway (SON) Lodges.  This represents the start of a broaderrelationship with SON as we have agreed to establish a social committee thatwill organize similar events.  Many Friday evenings at the Centre are organ-ized by the various House Societies and open to anyone. Please note that the annual NHS bursaries applications are now welcome

and details are available elsewhere in the Avisa and on our web site.  Bursary winners will be announced at the annual 17th Mai ConstitutionDay Dinner. Norway is one of the few countries, maybe the only country, tohave as its largest celebration each year it’s Constitution Day - originally 17Mai 1814. I invite you to join us for the festivities- bunads are encouraged -and help us to also recognize the Bursary winners. Education is a priorityin Norway so post-secondary tuition in Norway is free. Here we need togive a financial helping hand where we can to encourage the pursuit ofknowledge.

Tusen takk, David Moulton, President604-522-8182 [email protected]
