Three thirsty Cross-Country runners from the Hogan team
What an exciting two days of sports action when our
years 1–7 children participated in the annual cross country races. This is an event that includes nearly everyone and it was great to see so many children trying their hardest to make it to the finish. Children feel a sense of fulfilment in just completing this race.
The individual placegetters are mentioned below but our
congratulations go to everyone who ran. Although it is a
competitive event, we believe that it is important for
children primarily to see sport and recreation as
something you do to stay fit and healthy. Thanks to Bray
Miller for another successful carnival.

BYOD Program A BYOD Program is being considered at Jindalee State School for 2014 and beyond. A BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) Program is one that provides students with the
opportunity to bring an electronic device (e.g. iPad, laptop, tablet etc) to school daily to assist with their learning. A BYOD Program has significant potential that can lead to deep student engagement and rich learning. The model for BYOD has not yet been finalised and we wish for parents, staff and students to have the opportunity to provide us with their thoughts on a BYOD
Program at Jindalee State School. BYOD may encompass all year levels in the school from P-7.
All parents and students are invited to complete and provide their comments on a potential BYOD Program. The link to the parent survey is: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/52TKQ26
The link to the student survey is: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/52B9NMM
Additionally, if any parents wish to be part of a BYOD Consultative Committee, please contact Georgina Allardice at [email protected] or phone the school on 3725 5777.

U2B Project Jindalee State School currently has 36 Year 5 students participating in an Education Queensland Project called U2B. This project involves students from across the State who have been identified from their Year 3 NAPLAN
results as having the potential to make significant improvement in the area of Mathematics with some extra support. The aim of the project is to move these students into the Upper 2 Bands (U2B) of NAPLAN maths outcomes. The program also aims to develop the students’ critical and creative thinking skills, personal and social capability skills and ICT skills.
Every week, our identified Year 5 students participate in online Maths web conference sessions, with an experienced teacher, who is helping the students to develop their maths problem solving skills. The students complete online homework tasks during the week, and all
the students are developing greater confidence in their mathematical abilities. The students are supervised by either Mrs Leisa Cave or Mrs Caroline Duffus when they log into their weekly sessions online. Parents are encouraged to become involved and support the students as they complete their weekly homework tasks online.

Teach your child to dial Triple Zero The Queensland Ambulance Service is encouraging
parents and caregivers to teach their children how to become potential lifesavers by practising calling Triple Zero (000) with a disconnected or toy phone, or by playing an online training game at - http://kids.triplezero.gov.au/.
When calling Triple Zero and requesting an ambulance, an emergency medical dispatcher will provide advice and
dispatch medical help to your location.
For this reason, it’s also important for families to familiarise themselves with their holiday surroundings by memorising holiday addresses and beach access codes, so they can relay the correct information to Triple Zero staff. More information can be found at -
