Sports Day – Monday 11th July The postponed Sports Day will be held at Springfield Park Monday 11th July. Thank you for your understanding with the postponement; on Thursday the forecast was for rain all through the day and after the drenching we had in June… We’ll be in the lower field by the River Lea, where we were last year. All children need to come to school in their full P.E. kit, including their house T-shirts. If you plan to join us, we would really appreciate you walking over to Springfield Park with us after the morning register – Early Years and Key Stage 1 in particular. We have a huge drinking water tank, so send your child with an empty water bottle, along with a packed lunch and sunhat. The children will be taking part in lots of different athletic events. The points accumulated will decide which house will be this year’s points winner. The entire winning house will go on a special trip to the seaside as its prize on Thursday 14th July. Will it be a repeat of Yellow House’s victory? Or will it be the Blues? The Greens, Reds or Purples? Come and join in the family fun. Bring a picnic too.

Celebration Day – Thursday 21st July Come and join us at The Round Chapel in a celebration of an incredible year at Northwold. It's our prize-giving ceremony, as well as a dance and music showcase all in one! There will there be awards for children who have worked hard and consequently have made amazing progress throughout this year and we will be saying farewell to our Year 6’s. On top of that, you will be dazzled by music, singing and dance performances by our students. As it’s the last day and event of the Summer term, please collect your child from the Round Chapel after the event. Date - Thursday 21st July 2016 Time - 10.00am-12.00pm

Where - The Round Chapel, 1 Glenarm Rd, London, E5 0LY Please note: As there is only space for about 350 parents, admission will be given on a first-come, first-served basis, so come early to avoid disappointment. We can't wait to see you there!

Bugsy Malone – Monday 18th July

As Fat Sam and Dandy Dan slug it out to control the streets of New York, Busgy Malone becomes friends with Blousey Brown. Will they make it to Hollywood or will Talullah wreck their friendship? And who will get ‘splurged’ out of existence? All will be revealed in the Year 6’s production of the 1976 film. There will be three performances on Monday 18th July (see item below for performance times). Tickets will go on sale next week from the Office.

Hackney Music & Dance Festivals Hackney Music Service presented its 19th festival this year and Northwold Primary was delighted to once again take part. The Hackney Music Festival is a vibrant and exciting festival to celebrate the incredible music and dance education which takes place in Hackney. This was a fantastic opportunity to showcase our school’s musical talent and be part of the largest schools’ music festival in the borough. This year we participated in three different events: The Infant Singing Event, where all the Year Two’s sang up a storm, the Junior Singing Event where the school choir showcased their talent, and the Instrumental Event, where our band, the Rocking Rebels, wowed the audience and where the saxophones showed us what they could do. This year Northwold stood out for all the right reasons: the Year Two’s sat quietly during the entire performance, we were complimented several times for our good behaviour at the Junior event and Ms Kriel even received a text from another Headteacher complimenting the band and saxophones on their brilliant performance! The Marc Bolan dancers were meant to perform, but sadly due to the strike their event was cancelled. If you haven’t attended this splendid event this year, be sure to attend your child’s performances next year. Thank you to all the teachers and parents who supported us this year; it really was much appreciated. Until next year!

Bike Around The Borough Wednesday 6th July was a great day for the bike community all across London, but most of all here in Hackney. Hundreds of children from East London Schools took to the roads on bicycle, including students from Northwold. We enjoyed a marvellous sunny day and rediscovered the neighbourhood through the eyes of a bike rider. Great day! "It was a great journey and I loved the music." – Jahira. "It was so cool; we even got to beat the world record." – Maretha.

Year 6 Trip – Chessington “On Wednesday 29th June Year 6 went to Chessington World of Adventures for our final primary school trip. The first ride we went on was called Scorpion Express; it was so much fun I wanted to go on it again. Next, we went on a ride called Dragon Fury. The ride looked so scary since it went so fast. Afterwards, we had lunch. After lunch, we went on a spooky ride called Vampire – this ride went fast. On top of that it was a terrible idea since we just had lunch; however everyone had survived on this ride. Then we moved on to the next ride called Cobra (this gets even worse as it went upside down and a bit fast). I have two more rides to talk about. The first one is called bumper cars, where you bump into each other; the ride was very bumpy. Last but not least, we went on my favourite ride called … Monkey Swingers. Let me tell you what happens. First, you get ready by sitting on a swing and then when the ride starts you get lifted up into the sky. After a few seconds water splashes out of the floor and on to our feet. I wanted to go on it again. I had so much fun. However I wish I went on more rides.” – Javayriya.

Wednesday Coffee Mornings Every Wednesday from 9.00-9.30am there will be a coffee morning held in the Canteen. Each week, one of the school’s leaders will be talking about their area of responsibility. The next meeting this term will be on 13th July. It will be led by Ms Wilkinson, who will be talking to you about developments in PSHE at school. We look forward to seeing you there.

e-Safety – CEOP campaign This week CEOP – The Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre – has launched a new campaign focused on the importance of talking about sex,

relationships and the internet to your children. It starts with a reworking of Romeo and Juliet, imagining how their relationship might play out online. As part of the campaign CEOP have updated the parents’ section of their website – https://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/parents/ . Like it or not, this is not a subject that can be ignored in the online world and it is important to have start and maintain the dialogue with your child, as they get to older primary years. If there are any areas of e-Safety you want to know more about, please feel free to discuss it with Mr Braune, your child’s teacher or one of the school’s leader.
