Dutch Headteachers Visit On Thursday 26th January, we had our annual visit by a group of 25 Dutch Headteachers, who come to London to find inspiration and best practice in London schools. This year our prefects did a fabulous job of guiding our visitors around the school. Our visitors found Northwold incredibly inspiring.

BETT Talk – Ms Kriel

This week has seen the BETT show in London. It is one of the world’s foremost trade shows for ICT in education. We are very proud to say that Ms Kriel was a guest speaker and panellist at one of the key talks there - The TES School Leaders Summit. The talk went really well, so well in fact that many attendees of that event were inspired to come to Northwold in the evening to see the screening of Most Likely to Succeed (see below) and find out more about our school.

Most Likely to Succeed – Film and Discussion

On Thursday 26th January, we hosted an exclusive screening of a film called Most Likely to Succeed followed by a panel discussion about the film. The film has been nominated for the Sundance festival and explores the need for us to change the way education is delivered in schools, with a greater focus on creativity, collaboration and innovation. There was a great turnout and very stimulating conversation about it too. Amongst the audience we were really pleased to have two of our governors and a number of parents. A wonderful and thought-provoking evening.

“Year 6 China went on a visit to the offices of the World Wildlife Fund or as many people know it, WWF. It was a very great opportunity to ask about any things that we wanted to enquire about wildlife in the Arctic. Year 6's new topic is the Frozen Kingdom; as a result we learnt about the polar bears and what is affecting them. This was with the help of researching about different environments (Underwater, Jungle and many more.). We were also put in partners to make a newspaper page full of information and videos of us interviewing each other, as if we were a news reporter or explorer. They also informed us about 'Earth Hour'* which is an hour (on Saturday 25th March 2017, at 8:30) when people turn off lights and as many electrical goods as possible to save energy. During this trip we learnt about the animals around the planet and saving energy. It was a really fun day as well as educational.” - Lina

* We will send out reminders to promote Earth Hour during March.

SATS Parents Meetings – February 2017 We will be having parents’ meetings at the start of next month to discuss the Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 tests for Year 2 and Year 6 students. The meetings will be held on the following dates:

· Key Stage 1 (Year 2 parents) - Tuesday 7th February at 9am

· Key Stage 2 (year 6 parents) - Thursday 9th February at 9am

There are changes to these tests, so it is important that you attend to be aware of the structure and expectations. We look forward to seeing you.

Cake Sale Many thanks to all of you who came and braved the bracing wind to buy some fabulous baked goods, kindly made and donated by parents from Reception Class. We collected £113.76, which will be sent to The National Autistic Society. Many thanks to all involved

Milk Cartons PLEASE Our Nursery needs your help. They are planning to make a spectacular structure out of plastic milk cartons. Please, please, please can you wash out those empty milk cartons (all sizes) over the next week and send them into school? It will be much appreciated and we’ll share pictures of the finished ‘dwelling’ very soon.

Well read We love to read at Northwold. This is the first in a series of occasional pieces, where we recommend a great book or two for your child to borrow, read or give to others. To kick things off, we strongly recommend our Year 4s to take a look at Katherine Rundell’s The Wolf Wilder and Year 5’s to read Crossover by Kwame Alexander. Let us know too about your favourite books.

Morning Drop Off We’ve noticed a number of parents coming with their children into the playground well before the start of the school day. Please stay with your child until it’s time to go in.

School Trips – REMINDER Trips are really exciting for the children; they really enjoy the experience of learning outside school. To help the support your children please could you bring them to school on time. Some classes have missed their workshops because they have been waiting for children that have come to school late and delayed the start of the journey

Forest School – READY FOR ALL WEATHERS Forest School is an important part of our school curriculum. It will only be taught indoors if we are experiencing severe weather conditions, like blizzards or high winds (yellow on the BBC weather charts). We ask you to ensure you send your children to be prepared for all weathers – the cold, rain, sun, and high temperatures. We are not able to accommodate requests to remain in school because of the weather. We thank you for your cooperation in this.

Wednesday Coffee Mornings Every Wednesday from 9.00-10.00am there will be a coffee morning held in the Canteen. Each week, one of the school’s leaders will be talking about their area of responsibility. The next meeting is on 1st February. Mrs Goulbourne, our Deputy Head for Curriculum and Assessment, will be talking about to parents about how we report the progress and attainment of your children. We look forward to seeing you there.

P.E. – Correct Kit and P.E. Day Please see the list below for the correct kit. On your child’s P.E. day, your child will come to school in their P.E. kit* (NOT SCHOOL UNIFORM) and wear it for the whole day. Your child needs to wear the school’s P.E. kit: Black school hoodie (with your child’s name in

house colour)

House colour T-Shirt with your child’s name

Plain black jogging bottoms (Leggings, jogging

bottoms in other colours or with logos are not

acceptable)

Plimsolls or trainers

The P.E. day for each year group is as follows: Monday: Year 2 Tuesday: Nursery & Year 5 Wednesday: Reception, Years 1 & 4 Thursday: Year 3 Friday: Year 6

* Nursery to Year 4 children MUST also come to

school in their P.E. kit on Forest School days.
