Oct 2018
Greetings Chapter M
I hope everyone had a great
month since we were last together.
The ride to Cave in the Rock
and Garden of the Gods was short
lived. We meet at the Denny’s in
Oakland City, had breakfast and
checked the radar before we were to
head out. The radar showed that
there was rain all of the way
around us and that there would be
rain for most of the week end so
there was a general consensus that
none of us wanted to ride in the
rain all weekend long so said our
good byes and headed back home.
Normally, when a decision is made
to go home instead of ride, the
clouds would part and the sun would
shine for the rest of the weekend.
Well that didn’t happen, and by
Saturday evening we were all glad
that we stayed home. Good decisions
are made every once in a while.
I was hoping for a long fall
riding season but it looks like
Mother Nature has something else in
mind. When it goes from 90 to 50
degrees in 2 days and there is no
warm up in sight, I wonder if it
will be snowing by the end of the
month. It might be time to trade
the Goldwing for a snow mobile,
that probably won’t happen here
anyway. Maybe the weather will give
us a reprieve and allow to get some
rides in when the leaves are
turning to the colors of fall.
Next month (November) we will
have another silent auction. I
think we all had a good time
bidding on the treasures we all
took home at the last auction, and
we raised a respectful amount of
money for the chapter.
Carol and I will be headed to
the fall meeting before our Chapter
meeting this month. We will report
on everything that happens there
when we get back. See you there.

Directors notes for October
2018
Wing Ding was everything they
said it would be. There were
rides and Honda was there
showing off the new wing. The
vendors came ready to answer
questions and sell you the
bling you were looking for to
finish off your bike. I went
and bought a few new items and
had them installed. I also
brought some home to put on
myself. Rallies are what you
make them when you arrive. I
used to attend rallies to get
a first hand look at the items
I would consider adding to my
ride. Now as I have all I need
for my ride I attend rallies
for seminars and activities
such as rides, and games. My
point in all this is we all
change as we grow old in
GWRRA. We start out with all
goal or purpose and as we
achieve them, then we move on
to the next challenge. We
evolve our method for getting
the next challenge completed.
We as a District need to also
evolve in, what we offer at
rallies, or how we offer our
rallies to the membership.
Everyone has ideas about the
way we would like rallies to
be held. Send them to your ADD
or to me. We are looking for
new ways to attract members to
these events. We are hoping to
see more members attending
activities and everyone can
help with this plan.
The officer’s meeting is being
held on October 20th in
Wanamaker, In at the Lions
club center. The meeting
starts at 10am. We usually
have coffee and donuts with
lunch being held onsite at
noon. The meeting should end
about 2 pm unless the
discussions need to continue
further. All members are
welcome hope to see many of
you there.

DISCUSSIONS
1. We started the gathering with The Pledge of Allegiance and Gary offered an opening prayer.
2. Gary recognized the Couples and Individuals of the Year who were in attendance and welcomed our guests.
3. Gary gave an update on the August Silent Auction. The auction was a big hit and generated $175 for the Chapter M general fund. After some discussion it was decided to hold a Silent Auction quarterly.
4. Howard gave the safety report on T-CARE. T-CARE is for the rider and stands for Conditioning (physical condition), Attitude, Riding Risk and Expectations. After your T-CLOCS bike inspection take a moment to think about your own T-CARE before heading out on your ride.
5. There were no scheduled rides for October but if anyone plans a ride let Gary & Carol know and they’ll pass the word along to the group.
6. Several Chapter M member made the trip to Knoxville, TN for Wing Ding. While there Gary had a chance to test ride the new Goldwing with the Automatic shifting. He was very impressed with how it performed. Wing ding 2019 will be even closer to home. It will be in Nashville, TN Aug 27-31, 2019.
7. Some members are interested in getting new Chapter shirts. Carol is looking into putting together an order. We’ll discuss it more at the Oct meeting.
8. The State Fall Officer’s Meeting will be in Wannamaker, IN on Sat Oct 20 starting @ 10:00am and is usually over about 2:00pm. All members are welcome to attend. It was also announced that the 2019 Winter Rendezvous will be Feb 22 & 23 and will be held in Shipshewana, IN.
9. Gary and Carol are looking for someone to take over the Assistant Chapter Director position. They are especially looking for someone who would be willing to step into the Chapter Director position. Gary and Carol would like to pass the torch in the next 2 or 3 years.
The “Guess How Many” winner was Steve Whitehead.
