NorDan Sweden receives prestigious award as Lean Builder 2019 in Sweden

NorDan Sweden – Windows & Doors with Factory Kvillsfors was awarded the prestigious price «Lean Builder of the Year 2019» in Sweden. The award ceremony took place on 26th March in Stockholm, Sweden.

General Manager of NorDan AB, Dag Kroslid, states: ”NorDan is a very proud and humble recipient of the award for Lean Builder 2019 in Sweden. The work on Lean in NorDan commenced in 2005, and it is impressive to see the strong improvement rate at Factory Kvillsfors since NorDan acquired the factory in 2011. The factory has worked system-atically, fact based and with clear goals. It has reduced the lead time by 50%, doubled the capacity and succeeded in radically improving a traditional production factory. Lean Builder 2019 is fi rst and foremost a big recognition of our skilled employees, and it is of additional importance that NorDan was nominated for the award by a large customer. The award is the building industry’s recognition for improvement work according to Lean and is a cooperation between Lean Forum Building and the magazine Byggindustrin. The winner was announced at a conference on 26th March 2019 in Stockholm”.

NorDan’s Kvillsfors factory is located in Småland, a region in southern Sweden well known for its vast forests and timber processing industries. The Kvillsfors factory employs approx. 100 employees and has over the last years signifi cantly improved its operations with Lean. The factory has been on a notable improvement journey, with team orga-nization, involvement, capacity increase, set goals & reach goals, fact-based decisions and reduction of lead times as well as reducing waste. The Lean work is still ongoing, and will continue to continuously reduce waste and achieve further improvements.

”All employees have supported each other. This is the most important factor behind the improvements”, says Johan Lisedahl, trade union leader and forklift driver at the factory.

”It feels amazing! We took home the Lean Builder 2019 award from Stockholm and we were embraced by everyone back home in Kvillsfors”, says Fredrik Karlström, supervisor at the Kvillsfors Factory.

Factory Manager, Cecilia Hedblad Sjölin adds: ”We are a very greatful and proud recipient of the Lean Builder 2019 award. It means a lot to us to be recognised at a national level for our Lean-work and initiatives. The NorDan Kvillsfors factory achieved incredible im-provements over the last years, with hard work and NorDan’s vision of ‘Perfekt Samspill’ (perfect cooperation), we have succeeded together.”

Several companies were nominated to the Lean Builder 2019 award, and the three finalists were NorDan, El-Björn and Lindbäcks bygg. NorDan was awarded the Lean Builder 2019 price with the following motivation from the jury:”Through the power of employee involvement the winner has succeeded in transforming with a traditional factory at its core. Through measuring and basing decisions on facts the company have achieved results that other Lean-companies can be inspired by. Clear leadership, together with challenging and shared goals has created a winning culture which is advantageous to the company’s employees and owners.”

NorDan and the Kvillsfors Factory even won the Team Excellence Award in September 2018 at the international conference The Excellence Summit in Gothenburg.

”In NorDan AB we work actively with Lean in all three factories (Kvillsfors, Tanum and Bor), and at the same time we drive developments within digitalization and environment through our ecoDigital ready strategy. The big improvements through Lean as well as the winning culture has also played an important part in the investment program at the Kvillsfors factory and the increasing volumes from the market and our customers”, says General Manager for NorDan AB, Dag Kroslid.
