Background Nexa Resources Pasco Complex - an integration of El Porvenir and Atacocha mines comprising 3 mining sites (2 underground and 1 open pit) is located in the Andean mountains in central Peru. The Pasco site was suffering with suboptimum performance and high variability in the mining process; conditions which were negatively impacting tonnage output and compromising corporate results. Jamieson Group was engaged to improve and stabilize production, optimize machine availability, improve adherence to the production plan, reduce process dilution, better organize plant shutdowns and reduce cost. Approach Jamieson Group implemented several management operational systems to tackle the issues identified during the business review. In Development we were able to improve the management of the development teams to get a better adherence to the drilling plan. Likewise, with maintenance, we were able to improve machine availability. Having improved equipment availability and more areas to drill and blast, production was able to stabilize the volumes. We also identified potential shotcrete utilization improvements. At the plant, we were able to reduce dilution and develop an enhanced shut down management process to improve the overall efficiency of the process, reducing overall shutdown times. Project Outcomes Jamieson Group implemented the systematic use of a critical path process for mine planning, early identification of constraints, and maximizing the usage of the available equipment. With a better plan and improved supervision, came better plan adherence. This enabled a more controllable ore grade delivered to the plant, also improving dilution. Another important improvement was streamlining the shift change over, using a clear agenda and better information.
