Homemade King Cake Recipe by Kristi Tutt1 seamless crescent roll sheet (also puff pastry sheet or regular crescent roll sheet) cup melted butter Tbsp cinnamon3 Tbsp sugar (any kind)2 Tbsp flourKing Cake Icing, Recipe followsPurple, Gold, Green sugar or sprinkles8 oz Cream Cheese filling, softened (optional if you want it filled)
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.2. On a clean surface, sprinkle flour and place dough flat. Use some of the flour on a rolling pin
and roll dough into a long rectangle about 1/8th inch thick.3. Brush dough with melted butter.4. Sprinkle cinnamon and sugar over dough evenly. If you want a filled cake, spread the filling
over the dough except for 1 inch away from one of the long edges of the rectangle.5. Starting on the long side, roll dough and press to close the seam.6. On a greased sheet pan, transfer dough and arrange in the form of oval. Put one of the ends into
the other and seal.7. Bake covered with foil for 13 minutes and uncovered til it rises and golden brown, about 10-15
more minutes. Brush with leftover melted butter.8. Let cool and brush with icing. Sprinkle with alternating colors.
King Cake Icing by Kristi Tutt1 small can, sweetened condensed milk cup sifted powdered sugar Tbsp vanilla extract (the nicer brand)1 Tbsp orange juice2 Tbsp melted butter cup milk, depending on desired consistency
1. Sift powdered sugar into a bowl.2. Add all the other ingredients except milk and whisk until mixed well.3. Add milk 1 Tbsp at a time until desired consistency.
