Just as Paul prays for the Ephesians this prayer I pray it for each of you. Chapter 3: 14-21: “For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom his whole family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge – that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.” And talking about prayer, I received the following as an email a few years back and thought I would share with you to give you suggestions of what to pray for your child as well. PRAY FOR YOUR CHILD 1. Pray NOTHING hinders your child from accepting Christ as his/her personal Savior early in life. (Matthew 19:14) 2. Pray your child learns to know God and will have a deep desire to do God's will for his/her life. (Psalms 119:27,30,34,35). 3. Pray your child hears stories from the Bible that will be a basis for his/her decisions throughout life. (Ecclesiastes 12:1, Psalms 71:17). 4. Pray your child will-develop a keen sense of right and wrong and that he/she will truly abhor evil and cling to that which is good. (Psalms 139:23-4). Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. (Philippians 2:15-16 Thess. 5:2-3) I believe that God can and will do great things here at Timothy Christian School, and may He receive all the glory for the good that goes on here. God is at work within us as a school, as families and as individuals and I pray that we give God the glory for all he does for us.

Urgent - Library Volunteers Needed

The TCS library is in need of three volunteers. This is a great way to fulfill all your volunteer hours for the year. Please check

below for volunteer descriptions. Contact Lorraine Groot at [email protected] or the school office if you are interested or able

to help.

1. Most Monday mornings from 8:30 to 9:30 checking in and re-shelving returned books. No experience is necessary. (This job

can be split between two people.)

2. Checking out books for students from 9:00 to 11:00, every other Monday the library is open. This job is shared with two other

volunteers. A schedule can be arranged. A little computer knowledge would be helpful and training is available.

3. Cleaning the library once a month: dusting the books, shelves and computers, wiping tables and other surfaces. This can be

done any time during the school day when the library is not scheduled for use.

5. Pray your child will increase in wisdom (mentally) and in stature (physically) and in favor with God (spiritually) and mankind (socially). (Luke 2:52). This prayer covers his/her total development to his/her full potential.

MRS. UBBENS – GRADE 7/8 “Zechariah asked the angel, ‘How can I be sure of this?’”

English –Reading: reading is a regular part of homework – 20 minutes per day; also students should have a book in school for silent reading; Spelling: test and assignment; Writing: ending was due today, beginning is due Friday typed

Science: quiz on Tuesday – Architecture of the Atmosphere, quiz Wednesday – Cycles of the Atmosphere, group project on Tuesday – due Wednesday at end of class (have supplies in school) Math: we have had several quizzes, mini test on Add/Sub/Multi of Integers this Thursday

Tues /Thurs: cross country running in school. Please have gym clothes and shoes ready to go on Tuesday and Thursday. We will run every Tuesday and Thursday in September. Tissue boxes are a necessary part of classroom hygiene. Please assist by donating a box to our class. Thank you.

Apple Pie Day – Is there a parent is who willing to coordinate purchase of apples and other supplies, plus organize volunteers for Apple Pie Day? If so, please contact Barbara Ubbens. We need to have a volunteer confirmed by next Monday, Sept. 23rd. If not, then pie day will not happen this year.

Mme Hudson - French Grade 8: Fri., Sept. 20: Registre d’écoute due. Quiz on classroom expressions

Mrs. Porter – Grade 8 Band Students received their instruments on Wednesday and we had a fun period getting reacquainted with fingering and breathing deeply! Friday's class was spent doing some work with interval recognition and two new worship songs were introduced- Saviour of the World by Ben Cantelon and Jesus Messiah by Chris Tomlin. Students are encouraged to play through their yellow books during their at-home practice times to keep up their technique and note learning, as well as spend time learning new music that is given in class. Students should have a band binder with 3 dividers for Wednesday's class.

MS. MIEDEMA– GRADE 5/6 Spelling: Students will receive their first word lists today. During the week, they should

study/practice their words at home (and at school). Spelling tests are on Fridays.

Science: Thank you so much for helping to supply materials for the Forces and Structures unit. Many supplies have been brought in. We still need the following items: cardboard shoeboxes (10), single-hole paper punches, wooden dowelling, and glue guns/sticks.

This week, students will be learning about internal and external forces acting on structures. They will be quizzed on these on Friday.

Disasters News Desk Projects: Students have chosen their topics and have started recording facts and figures about their disaster. This week, students will consider the forces acting on structures during the disaster.

Gym clothes and running shoes will be needed at school for Phys. Ed. (on Monday) and cross-country running (on Tuesday and Thursday).

Scholastic Book Club: Each month, students have the opportunity to purchase books from Scholastic book publishers. Flyers were sent home today. If interested in purchasing items, simply

fill in the order forms and return payment (by cheque, payable to “Scholastic Canada, Ltd.) to school by the due date. Families are under no obligation to buy. September orders are due by Wednesday, Sept. 18.

activities and events that take place at

wish Peter well and God's blessing on

his future endeavors. Peter's last day as

Our soccer tournament has been

confirmed for Monday, September 30

at Shell Park in Oakville. We will leave

at the beginning of the day, but our

return time depends on how we do at

the tournament (likely after 3 p.m.).

We will need drivers. Although we

prefer you to stay and cheer us on, if

you can’t that’s fine. Please let the office

know if you can drive and how many

students you can legally seat. We would

also love to have spectators, even if you

can only come for a while.

first lunches of the school year are

scheduled for Fridays, Sept. 27, Oct.

11, and Wednesday Oct. 23. Lunches

must be ordered ahead of time: simply

MRS. HUDSON - GRADE 3/4

Our goal: We want Grade 3/4 to be a place where everyone feels safe, happy, and respected. We want to serve God and learn about Him, His Word, and His world.—written by the students of Grade 3/4 Last week we began our Whiz Quizzes—mental math drills. Returning students will be picking up where they left off last year. Everyone else will be beginning with +1, then -1, etc. There are still a few microwave day slots available on a first come, first served basis for those who wish to take advantage of sending a warm meal one day per week. Please send a note with your child stating which date you prefer. Our first spelling test went very well. The next one will be on Thursday, September 19. Grade 3 words: could, favourite, people,

Mrs. Lise Socials: This week our focus will be on the provinces and territories of Canada: how Canada is divided into parts; what is special about each of them and why it is important for Canadian citizens to know about them. By Thursday, students will need to have chosen a province/territory to make a brochure on. Please go to the library with your child this week to pick out two books of that province/territory. Books need to be in school for Friday as we will be working on the brochure in class. Computers: This week we will begin keyboarding lessons. Bible: This week we begin our unit on the Judges. We will begin by learning about Othniel and Ehud. We begin Memory work this week. It comes from Psalm 135: 13-18. It will be due October 18th. Please practice with them at home so that they are prepared to recite on that day. We will do our best to practice in class as well. Grade 3 LA: Three periods a week, grade 3 is on their own and we will be doing extra language arts. We have begun by studying Robert Munsch, a Canadian author. Ask your child what they have learned about him and how he became a writer.

Mrs. Porter – Grade 3 Music & French This year in Music the concepts of a steady beat, high and low pitch, fast and slow tempo (speed), echo and moving to music will be continually reinforced in all our songs, games and activities. Students finished learning a new song "Humpty Dumpty" and were even able to add the choreography. Well done! Last week in French, we reviewed the parts of the body and added to our repertoire of simple commands/actions that we are able to follow.

Ms Miedema – Grade 4 Music & French Music: Please return Recorder Order Forms by Tuesday, Sept. 17th. Please have recorders at school on Thursday. On Thursday, there will be a quiz on naming notes (line notes and space notes). French: Colours quiz on Wednesday.

MISS CHIANG – GRADE 1/2 This Friday will be our first spelling test. This year we will have our spelling tests before morning recess. Please help ensure your child

is prepared for the test by reviewing the words at home, as well as arriving at school on time. A note was also sent home last week,

indicating your child’s spelling group.

In Science this week, we will be focusing on dirt. Students should bring in a sandwich bag or margarine container of dirt for

examination. We are going to compare our different dirt samples as well as examine what is often found in it.

In Math, we have been busy looking at different patterns. We are developing our ability to describe what is changing in a pattern, ie

shape, size, etc. We are also working on describing what is repeating in a pattern. This week we will finish up our unit on patterns and

move on to number relationships next week.

In Writing, we are focusing on prayers. We have been discussing what we can talk to God about and making a list with our partners.

We have marveled at God’s awesomeness and the fact that we can talk to God about whatever we need to. This week, we will begin

writing our ideas into our notebooks. At home, discuss with your child different things that you can talk to God about.

Bible: Memory work came home last Tuesday on little orange sheets of paper. Students either placed it in the pocket of their agenda,

or it was stapled into their agenda. The verses we are working on are Ps. 119:18 and 34. Memory work is reviewed each class and we

always add actions to help us remember the words. Students will recite their verses on Tuesdays, and then get a new verse that same

day. We had a great week together as we plunged into the book of Luke to start our study of the New Testament. This week we see

Jesus as a boy and then the start of his public ministry.

MRS. GROOT & MRS. PORTER – JK/SK

Getting to know each other has been good these past two weeks. We are having lots of fun playing in and outdoors, singing,

sorting, recognizing our names, drawing, reading, learning nursery rhymes, and playing some more. Right now, I think, the

children’s favourite part of the day is playtime. Ask your child who they played with today and what they did.

Our first class trip is three weeks away. We are going to the Country Apple Orchard located in King City on Friday, Oct. 4. If

you would love to breathe some fresh country air, pick apples off a tree and enjoy the laughter and spontaneity of three, four

and five years old and of course drive us to King City please contact Lorraine Groot @ [email protected] or Elizabeth

Martinez (our grade mother) @ 647-344-3663. We have 17 children to accommodate. Please keep in mind all children must

travel in a booster seat with lap and shoulder seatbelt straps. Please also let us know how many children you can properly

transport. If you have questions concerning insurance please call the office.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Sara who turns five on Tuesday. We will celebrate with her on Wednesday. May God bless you with a

wonderful year, Sara.

If you have not done so, please provide your child with extra clothing they can change into in case of a spill or accident. You

can either send this each school day in their knapsack or put it in a clearly labelled bag and hang it on their hook. If their

clothing gets wet I will send it home for washing.

WATER BOTTLES: It is so important for the children to be well hydrated with water (not juice) throughout the day. Thank you

for providing a water bottle each school day.
