Excellent venue and staff! TripAdvisor Review, May 2015
“I had the pleasure to host a Client event at Queen’s Landing. The hotel and premises are stunning! I worked very closely with Peggy during the prework and onsite. She was very efficient and offered her expertise on a number of things to ensure our stayand event were memorable...For our dinner at the Fort George (Queen’s Landing catered), Karen was my manager onsite and she executed everything on time and still ‘hot on the plate’. She remained calm and delivered beyond expectations. I have always loved Vintage Inns for their passion and great service...they continue to deliver and I look forward to my next visit.”

1 We have this natural wonder we are pretty proud of (you may have heard of it, it’s a pretty big waterfall), and there are numerous attrac-
tions that get you up close and personal with the roar of the mighty falls.
2 Contrary to what still may be popular belief, Niagara Falls is ac-tually really easy to get to, from and around. We are close to four
major airports, are accessible by bus and train, and have an extensive transportation system to get delegates around once they are here.
3 Niagara’s continuously growing culinary scene ensures that local food is used at restaurants whenever possible, making for some
delicious farm to table meals, even for large groups. PLUS, Niagara is Canada’s wine country. So not only do we have amazing local cuisine, we have a Niagara wine to pair with every meal.
4 A new and innovative convention centre full of unique spaces; from small to big to WOW!
5 16,000 hotel rooms with 50% of inventory dedicated to meetings and conventions. World renowned branded and independent prop-
erties ranging from 2 diamond to 4 diamond status.
6 There are numerous venues to choose from, whether you are aim-ing for traditional or eclectic, there is something that will suit your
style here in Niagara.
7 Nature…it’s synonymous with Niagara, and it’s because we have lots of it! If it’s getting out on the golf green you crave, we have
dozens of world-class courses. If it’s a hike you fancy, there are endless trails highlighting the best Niagara scenery has to offer.
8 Our nightlife is bold and bountiful. Whether you want to do your evening networking nestled in an authentic cozy Irish
pub, or sit-back in one of our many street patio lounges, posh it up in our casino lounges or dance to the hottest hits, there is a spot waiting for you.
9 We have Vegas style shows, but with a particular Niagara touch! Whether it’s live theatre, magic or music you think your delegates
will enjoy, it’s on stage here.

Why Niagara? Niagara is a pretty happening place. Every year, it’s growing; it’s getting more enticing and more innovative. It’s a really fun (and beautiful) place to live, and it’s an exciting place to discover as a visitor. There really are a multitude of reasons why you’ ll want to consider having your next meeting or conference here in Niagara Falls:
WE’LL START YOU OFF WITH TEN REASONS
www.fallsmeetings.com 11
A REGION SOAKED IN THE SEDUCTIVE AROMAS OF ITSELFIt’s been called the Burgundy of Canada. Niagara is an agricultural region with a large number of small farms. Drive the back roads and the checker board landscape reveals orchards, fields, gardens, vineyards and greenhouses.
Depending on the time of year you could pass corduroy fields of strawberries with people dotting the green horizon picking to their hearts content. You may wonder why there is a crimson colour to an orchard you’re passing and then you realize you’re salivating for the deep red, ripe, sweet taste of cherries. Or perhaps you’re biking the back roads and all you can smell is the sweet, vinous aromas of another Niagara grape harvest. Niagara is soaked in the seductive aromas and sights of it’s own fare.
In between the abundant orchards and lush, green vegetable gardens are net covered blue-berry farms, hay-covered endive fields, fra-grant, acres of purple lavender, a fromagerie, heritage pig farms, Highland cattle ranches
and farms that sell chickens, rabbits and eggs. Roadside signs are traditionally hand painted and pounded into the ends of laneways alert-ing drivers of the farmers’ daily offering.
Summers are full of multiple harvests with road-side stands and farmers’ markets overflowing with fresh strawberries, raspber-ries, corn, tomatoes, onions, lettuces, plums, peaches and apricots. Get out of the city and drive through the back roads where the true flavours of a region are found in the fields. It’s most likely you’ll catch a farmer loading his truck with tomatoes still warm from the summer sunshine and wet from the morning dew. A wagon full of just harvested garlic sits to the side of the field littered with dried garlic stalks while melons dot another field like a young girls polka-dot dress. Follow that truck as it meanders through the countryside for it will most likely lead to a great restaurant where tomatoes will be featured on the menu that day, ripe and juicy, rich in flavour and screaming of pure joy as they’re bathed simply in a sweet, aged balsamic and sea salt.
Niagara is a region of culinary smells, sights, sounds and moods. Each and every harvest emits their own aromas, like the church bell calling parishioners’ to mass, local food calls to hungry eaters and they gorge themselves on perfectly ripened, incredibly succulent local food until it’s all gone. They eat their fill of gooseberries, zucchini flowers, sweet peas, yellow corn, yellow plums and then never eat these foods again for the rest of the year.
More than that, each season in Niagara has a food purpose. The summer is for can-ning and preserving, the fall is for wine and sausage making, while the winter months are occupied with pasta and bread baking. When you live in Niagara, food and cooking is about more than just filling your stomach. It’s a way to share, to love and to be connected to your food and your surroundings.
It’s called the rhythm of a region and suc-cumbing to this rhythm means always craving the next harvest and next season. It’s about the powerful seduction and bewitching culinary hold that hits you in your psyche, makes your juices flow and your appetite ache.
So what makes Niagara so agriculturally prolific you ask? It’s about geography. Niagara is surrounded by water that warms in the summer. In the fall when the weather turns cooler, the warmth from the water rises and is then trapped in the region by the Niagara escarpment. This warmth prolongs a grow-ing season and moderates the climate so all produce grows slowly, building flavours (and nutrition), balancing acidity and producing excitement in flavours found no where else in North America.
It’s the reason why people drive to Niagara from near and far to indulge in the sweet straw-berries, juicy cherries and succulent peaches. Tomato plants grow in fields next to vineyards, each affected by the same soil, climate and geological influences. Each achieving similar characteristics of lively acidity and full, ripe flavours. Animals graze in pastures and grass-lands also affected by the same influences, also achieving a unique taste of the region.
Niagara flavours are the perfect balance of fruitiness, sweetness and acidity. Take for example a peach. When they’re tree ripened, Niagara peaches have a fully developed fla-vour, are pockets of juiciness and have a sen-suous character. Bite into one and the juices squirt out through your fingers, down your arm and drips off your elbow. The flavour fills your palate, the acidity stimulates your taste-buds, the fruit luxuriates across your tongue and the aromas rush through your olfactory senses. The happiness – no the ecstasy of this is what Niagara flavours are all about.
It’s the signature flavour of Niagara that is also reflected in its wines. Rieslings with the >>

perfect balance of fruit and liveliness, and icewine with sufficient acid-ity to allow it to last for years. It’s an industry so suited to the land that it has grown to international acclaim with over 100 wineries in only three decades. All of which are worthy of a visit.
Niagara is the quintessential farm-to-table region filled with honesty, authenticity and integrity. It’s about the unbroken arc from garden to table that includes growing, nurturing, harvesting, preparing, presenting and sharing food from within the same region. Over the years, all of this home grown goodness has evolved into a world-class cuisine that depends on a trilogy: farmers, culinary entrepreneurs and consumers.
Culinary entrepreneurs like chefs, caterers, bakers, food producers and others work with farmers in a world-class culinary collaboration that depends as much on the production of its ingredients as it does on the transformation of those ingredients into a delicious dish. You’ll find bakers offering peach pies, church socials baking up cherry pies and county fairs showcasing the best jams of the region. There is no place local food can’t be found from cupcakes to vinegar and from pasta sauces to charcuterie. This farm-to-table movement is rooted in the belief that it takes as much patience and attention to nurture a sim-mering pot of sauce into a luscious meal as it does nurturing a tiny seedling into a mature and fully productive plant.
Chefs compete for the best produce from the farms to fill their kitch-ens, often contracting multiple farmers to ensure a continuous supply – or as continuous as Mother Nature will allow. You can find delicious examples of local dishes such as Niagara smoked chicken sandwich made with chicken from a local farm. A fresh pickerel dinner at a fine dining restaurant with pickerel fished from Lake Erie that very mor-ning. You can go for gourmet mac and cheese with cheese from a local fromagerie or a charcuterie platter at a banquet with cured meats that just days earlier, were hanging in a cave within a twenty minute drive from the restaurant.
Consumers are not blind to good food. They are naturally drawn to local agricultural destinations for the most valuable resources, the greatest intensity of flavours and the purest of produce, knowing the most satisfaction in eating and the most generous conviviality is embed-ded in Niagara’s farm and country traditions.
Consumers are the third and final link in a farm-to-table trilogy. Consumers appreciate the hard working farmers, the creativity of chefs or the inspiration of a culinary region by buying at farmers’ markets, eating the restaurant dishes and eagerly attend local food events. They realize that in this hectic, mad world we live in today, we often lose sight of the very essence that promotes our health and well being – the good-ness that comes from the earth, in its own time. It’s a lifestyle rooted in the firm belief that “eating local” seasonally and sharing food together is one of the greatest and simple joys available to us all. Succumbing to the rhythms of the region is to be nourished by life’s riches.
On a more practical level, buying local is about protecting our farm-land and water, about keeping the farming traditions and cultures in Niagara alive and also about providing our communities with good food. It’s about culinary culture, regionalism and having a healthy sense of pride in Niagara’s agricultural heritage.
But food and the celebration of it is never practical, it’s emotional, inspired by the passionate people who make it happen. It’s about the pure joy of food and this simple joy relies on and creates healthy rural communities. It’s the rhythm of living well and living sensibly.

This is a conference meal? What happened to the traditional cold chicken, boiled green beans and rice, and that small square of bland cheesecake sitting in a white paper, corru-gated muffin cup?
If you’ve dreamt of succulent slices of glistening tuna on a Nicoise salad, or sweet chunks of lobster wrapped inside paper-thin pasta and lathered with a butter, citrus sauce, then look no further than your next conference in Niagara Falls.
In a city known world over for romance, historical charm and natural beauty, what you may not know is that it’s the culinary prowess that tops the list of reasons why Niagara Falls is ranked number one with meeting planners around the world. It’s the eclectic range of home-grown goodness, international cuisine and its ability to feed the many with dishes usually reserved for gourmet service that win confer-ences over.At some of Niagara’s top conference and convention venues are chefs who forage for local food, international chefs who bring their expertise through their native exotic cuisine and others who are up on the latest culinary techniques and showmanship. To show how different each are, five of the top conference chefs were asked to talk about different courses of a typical conference dinner, which turn out to be not that typical after all. >>

SIDNEY KRICK
SHAUN GOSWELL
18
EExecutive Chef Sidney Krick of Edgewaters Restaurant at the Niagara Parks Commission is a huge champion of the food grown, raised and produced in the region. Krick has worked hard to have his restaurant ‘Feast On’ certi-fied, the provincial designation for using a high percentage of local food in a restaurant.
Krick thinks nothing of using the local foods to create stunning appetizers with a flavour of the region. Some are as laid-back as a char-cuterie plate filled with Pingue cured meats and cheeses from Upper Canada Cheese Company. What Krick loves most is to combine flavours and show how sophisticated local cuisine can be. On one of his favourite appetizers, he starts with red veined Swiss chard and mounds arti-san quinoa pilaf on top. Next he carefully lies a piece of pepper berry rubbed rainbow trout on top, glistening in its juices with a Niagara peach and St David’s bell pepper chutney on the side. He adds a sprig of fresh thyme and slice of lemon and it’s a delicious starter to any meal. The just harvested lake fish, the lemon and the peach add lightness and freshness to keep the palate cleansed for the rest to come.
Another local food forager is Executive Chef Shaun Goswell at the Scotiabank Convention Centre. Goswell is inspired by the many moods of a Niagara season. He may recommend fresh greens dressed with straw-berry, thyme vinaigrette in June. Too simple you say? Not when the greens consist of locally grown watercress, sorrel, shiso and other brightly coloured and intensely flavoured let-tuces all mixing their citrusy, bitter, buttery and tart flavours with intensity.
To fit a fall mood, Goswell explains, “most don’t think we can do much with local in the winter and I happen to like this one.” Most of the vegetables in the salad are trad-itional cold winter vegetables such as beets, broccoli, carrots and fennel. Goswell makes carrot jerky, pickles broccoli stems, candies fennel and roasts cauliflower. He tosses this around with red vein sorrel and enrobes it in a buttermilk pumpkin dressing. It’s a rich and exciting, savoury salad that satisfies on a cool weather day. New, clients boast that Goswell’s approach is refreshing. It’s not just a one sided push on creativity on the chefs part, but a pro-cess of discovery for the client as well.
When you think of a convention entrée, you think of protein, starch and vegetables, when Executive Chef Jerry Nanda of the Marriott Gateway on the Falls thinks of an entrée, he thinks, “you’ve got to try this!” Nanda is well known for his small plates table. On one long banquet table he lines up hundreds of little plates and tiny martini glasses, they look like armies standing at attention.
Each little plate is elegantly dressed with small portions of gourmet food. Each dish is seductively presented, each one crying out to be eaten. This type of buffet allows large groups of people to be in charge of their own meal; they can try one or many of the main entrees because each portion is small.
You can try slices of Ahi Tuna grilled to medium rare in a Nicoise salad finished with a warm bacon vinaigrette and also slices of grilled Southern-style flank steak laying over
a medley of root vegetables drizzled with a warm remoulade sauce and garnished with crisp onions. You can go for a third helping of goat cheese and apricot stuffed chicken over warm quinoa mixed with grilled vegetables or if you like, a lobster and Chorizo sausage gourmet mac and cheese. Try one, try them all, each looking and tasting like a dish from a gourmet restaurant.
“There’s an art to making pasta,” says Massimo Capra, Celebrity Chef of The Rainbow Room at Canadian Niagara Hotels. Capra is Italian and “pasta is a big deal”. “Every different shape of pasta has a different style of dough but the thickness of it is dictated by the place of origin,” he explains, “northern Italian pasta is stretched so thin you can almost see through it.” Capra’s favourite, lobster ravioli is made with paper thin dough, stuffed with sweet lobster meat, chives, thyme, and chervil

YOU’VE GOT TO try THIS!
““all dressed in a burnt butter cream sauce, diced fresh tomatoes, a squirt of lemon juice, fresh herbs and a sprinkling of toasted hazelnuts. It’s light, seductively sweet with a pucker of citrus and freshness of green herbs. It’s a deli-cious dish that serves 1,000 people. “It’s noth-ing unnatural, we do it in Italy all the time.”
Capra stresses the dough is the key to per-fect pasta. Capra’s dough is kneaded perfectly so the gluten becomes light, clean and elastic with a pleasant resistance when eaten. It’s so amazingly delicious that famous actor Tom Cruise insists on Capra’s Spaghetti Vongole when he’s in town. But spaghetti is not on the banquet menu because it doesn’t work as well for large groups as baked pasta does. His favourite is cannelloni with fresh asparagus and prosciutto, ripe ricotta and fontina cheese wrapped in feather light pasta and adorned with just the right amount of both tomato
and a cheesy bachamel sauce. “As it bakes, the edges of the pasta crisps up with the prosciutto and it becomes light, luscious with a surprise caramelized pasta crunch.”
Pastry Chef Pradeep Dharmawardane of the Fallsview Casino Resort is a man who brings a world of possibilities very honestly to his exotic and unique desserts. Classically trained in Sri Lanka and having worked from Dubai to the Bahamas, the Americas and now Canada, Dharmawardane has a natural talent for mixing aromas and flavours of food to excite the palate. He mixes pineapple and rosemary “It’s freaking fantastic,” exclaims Dharmawardane. Another is Chambourd, cranberry and pumpkin and his favourite, strawberry and key lime.
Dharmawardane has a light touch with his desserts and a sheer talent to create works of art for groups of 600 or more. He takes
delicate, light meringue whipped with lime zest and steams it into a soft, billowy cloud. He places it over top a glistening puddle of uber-sweet, strawberry lime coulis with a hint of soft mint and tops it off with a compote of mixed berries, macerated in icewine. The angelic texture floats across the palate while the soft, drunken berries luxuriate across the tongue. It’s served impressively in a white, sugar Faberge-style egg. It’s simply stunning to look at and when eaten, will send your eyes rolling to the back of your head.
Inspired by Pablo Picasso, Dharmawardane quotes, “Picasso says, anything you can imagine is real.” In Picasso style, Dhawmawardane sketches each dessert he creates. “I still have every sketch I’ve ever done.” Do his sketches look like Picasso’s? Not exactly, but I guarantee no one appreciated one of Dhawmawardane’s desserts any less.

Two high-adrenaline attractions are being added to Niagara’s diverse portfolio of eco-ad-venture tours this Spring 2016. The world class Zip Line experience and Aerial Adventure Courses will captivate both the young and young at heart when visiting Niagara’s entertainment district.
Brought to life by WildPlay Niagara Falls and the Niagara Parks Commission (NPC), both attractions promise a hybrid adventure and educational experience for groups wishing to explore and learn about the Niagara Parks in hands-on fashion; both featuring guided histor-ical tours, an education on the surrounding eco-systems and a new and thrilling visual perspective of Niagara Falls.
The four side-by-side high-speed zip lines will des-cend 2,200 hundred feet from the NPC’s Grand View Marketplace on the Niagara Parkway into the Niagara Gorge below at the decommissioned Ontario Power Generating Plant, looking up to the Horseshoe Falls above.
“The zip line is right front and centre to Niagara Falls,” said Lindsay DiCosimo, Marketing Manager for WildPlay Niagara Falls. “the zipline will offer breathtaking views of the Falls and an opportunity to experience it like never before.”
The first of its kind in Niagara, the Aerial Adventure course is set to open on the north side of the Whirlpool at Thompson Point along the picturesque Niagara Parkway. This recreational activity is said to improve physical skills and strengthen mental courage; all while providing
awe-inspiring vistas of the Niagara gorge.“It is going to feature a little bit of everything; wobbly
bridges, mini zip lines, rope swings, cargo nets,” said DiCosimo. “The obstacles that are hanging from the trees will increase in difficulty as you go through the course. So everyone starts off at the same level and as you go through, things get a little more challenging. You’re facing your fears and overcoming your self-perceived inhibitions as you build your confidence as you get through the course.”
DiCosimo says this unique attraction is ideal for corporate team building because it strengthens and builds trust amongst groups while encouraging team work and mutual support.
“You’re in a group setting, you are doing challenges that you might not think you can overcome but with group encourage-ment and by working together you can figure out the best way to approach the different challenges,” said DiCosimo.
“Some people are very shy in office settings but may excel outside of the office so by getting outside and completing a course like this people can shine in a different light,” said DiCosimo. “You can play off of different people’s strengths and bond as a group.”
Guides are also in place every step of the way to lend support and encouragement to anyone who is struggling and wishes to bypass an obstacle. They will also provide historical anecdotes as you enjoy the attractions, with a focus on the surrounding landmarks including: the forma-tion of the Falls, the previously active power generators, wildlife and plant life in the area and the early explorers who settled in the region. >>

WELLAND CANALS PARKWAY TRAILThis paved recreational trail links the cities that the canal passes through and extends from Port Colborne to St. Catharines. The full length of the trail is 42 kilometres, and it’s great for walking, hiking or rollerblading. You’ll get the unique opportunity of watching the ships as they go through the canal, and for the most part, the path runs right alongside it.
NIAGARA RIVER PARKWAY TRAILThis is a beautiful 56-kilometre bike path that links Niagara-on-the-Lake and Fort Erie. It’s paved, so it’s accessible, and is great for both walking and cycling. This path runs parallel to the Niagara River, and passes some beautiful sights along the way, including numerous points of interest for tourists, such as the Floral Clock, Fort George and the Butterfly Conservatory.
FRIENDSHIP TRAILThis bike friendly path runs sixteen kilometres across Fort Erie, and winds through farmland, villages, watersheds and residential areas. Not only is it great for cyclists and walkers, but it is also wheelchair accessible. Parking is available on Ridge Road, Crescent Road, and Lakeshore Road.
WATERFRONT TRAILThe Waterfront Trail stretches from Niagara-on-the-Lake to Quebec, following the shores of Lake Ontario. The Niagara portion begins in Niagara-on-the-Lake and goes through St. Catharines, Lincoln and Grimsby. The trail varies between off road paths and streets in resi-dential neighbourhoods. It is a multi use trail and is good for cycling, walking or rollerblading. Trail maps are available online from the Waterfront Trail official website.
GORDON HARRY CONSERVATION TRAILThis is a 13km section of the Trans Canada Trail that runs from the Western border of Port Colborne to Wainfleet, out to Haldimand County. It’s a great spot for mountain biking, and links together num-erous conservation areas in Niagara.
GREATER NIAGARA CIRCLE ROUTEThis multi-use, paved trail makes its way through Niagara, linking Lakes Erie and Ontario, as well as the Welland Canal with the Niagara River. It passes through historic Port Colborne, where in addition to historic sites, you will pass various shops, attractions and restaurants.
CHOOSE YOUR OWN BIKE ROUTEThe Niagara Region website has a handy feature available when you are trying to plan the perfect bike route. You can devise a bike trail based on themes like heritage or culture, by terrain and surface, the length of the route and by difficulty. Check it out at niagararegion.ca

If you are looking for a customized tour for your group, check out Cycle On Adventures, a company that provides all inclusive Niagara Bike Tours:
“Our goal is to create a special and memorable experience for everyone,” said Rob Weingust, President of Cycle on Adventures. “Everything is customizable. Business groups will tell us what they hope to accomplish over the course of the tour and we will ensure that the tour appropriately fits their goals. We have had goals focused on team building or creating camaraderie and bonding or that they want a wow factors for impressing business partners. If they suggest they want less wine, we show them more food. It is that simple.”
“If you try and enjoy the Niagara Region travelling by car or a bus, you miss a lot,” said Weingust. “The nice thing about cycling is that it gets you to your destination but you also get to enjoy the journey. You’re not whipping by on the highway, you are riding through the fields, connecting to the land and seeing everything at a slower point of view.”
off the beaten path“Life is like riding a bicycle. In order to keep your balance, you must keep moving.”

Cyc l ingThere are over 200 scenic routes available for cycling options in the Niagara Region, so it is easy enough to find itineraries for every level of rider, every type of scenery and every length of ride. Many trails wind through several cities in the Region, so it’s easy to tour the Region by bike. What follows are just some highlights of what’s available.
With there being so much outdoor activities in the Niagara Region, and with you a limited amount of time while you are here, it can be helpful to have somebody who really knows the area well to pick out and organize the best activities for your group. Natalie Lowe, and her company Celebrate Niagara are pros at organizing customized adventure trekking for groups visiting Niagara.
No two programs are the same and no two packages are the same – Lowe guarantees a tailored adventure to suit your schedule and desired goals.
Lowe says, “the organizer and I will sit together and go over our options and say ‘Yes, no. We don’t like these; let’s find two more, etc.’. And sometimes we just have to invent stuff. We will do whatever it takes to suit their needs and get them active and outside enjoying Niagara’s bounty.”Lowe said they try to keep all activities between three hours in length as to leave efficient time for business meetings. All transportation is included along with equipment and food depending on the length of activity chosen.
Lowe said they like to support local when choosing which activities to share with corporate groups and they choose people who are pas-sionate about what they do. Popular outdoor activities include:
Adventure Hiking in the Niagara George
Golfing
Cycling Tours
Geocaching at select Niagara Wineries
Paddle Boarding
Historical Walking Tours

COME FOR WORK. STAY FOR PLAY.
Just imagine the freezing temperatures of January; the falling water stirs up mist that is carried by the wind to land on everything that sur-rounds it. Trees, rocks, railings, light posts and fences are coated in a thick layer of ice, dressed with icicles of all shapes and sizes. Sometimes it’s covered with a layer of beautiful snowflakes, other times it shim-mers like diamonds. It’s the stuff fairy tales and dreams are made of.During the day the sun’s reflection makes the icy wonderland a shim-mering oasis of beauty. Every evening, beginning at dusk, the Falls are lit in the colours of the rainbow that twinkle in the ice and the stun-ning beauty is romantically breathless. If you’re visiting Niagara Falls in the winter, there are still plenty of things to do, and probably the most anticipated are the Winter Festival of Lights and the Icewine Festival.
ONTARIO POWER GENERATION WINTER FESTIVAL OF LIGHTSTaking place from the end of November to the end of January every year, the Winter Festival of Lights has been a Niagara wintertime staple since 1983, when it was formed through a partnership of Niagara Falls Tourism, the City of Niagara Falls, The Niagara Parks Commission and numerous private businesses. It has continued to grow and evolve every year since then, attracting approximately 1.5 million visitors to Niagara Falls every season. It is recognized as an Ontario Festival of Distinction by Festivals and Events, Ontario and has been included on many other travel lists, including Reader’s Digest, Conde Nast Traveler and Canoe.com. Niagara Falls has become one of the top decorated cities in the world during the holiday season.
The festival is a draw not only for visitors to the area, but remains a time honoured tradition for many residents of Niagara to go down to Niagara Falls to see the lights shine. The Festival now includes over 3 million lights along a 5km route, as well as displays through-out Niagara Falls, and numerous other activities throughout the three-month event. You can travel down the Niagara Parkway to view the spectacular light show, as wells as take a leisurely drive around Dufferin Islands, where there are additional light displays, and accompanying music, which you can tune into on your car radio. For more information the Winter Festival of Lights, visit wfol.com
ICEWINE FESTIVALThe Niagara Icewine Festival just keeps getting bigger and better every year, with an ever-increasing variety of events and activities that cele-brate this national treasure happening throughout the Niagara Region. Canada holds the title as the largest Icewine producer in the world and is renowned for the quality and selection of this rare and wonderful dessert wine. This is an accomplishment worth celebrating, and every January, people come from all over the world to be part of this month long celebration of Icewine.
Niagara is the heart of wine production in central Canada. Due to its unique location between the two Great Lakes, Erie and Ontario, Niagara’s climate remains moderate enough to allow grapes to flour-ish throughout the region. The red and white wines that are produced here are highly regarded around the world. But Niagara takes wine growing one step further: Although the area is hot in the summer,

it consistently experiences freezing temperatures in winter. It is this yearly cold spell that is the magic needed to produce the exotic Icewine for which Canada has become famous.
To produce Icewine, the grapes are left hanging on the vines long after the regular harvest is complete, waiting for the freeze to arrive. During that time, the sugars in the berries intensify as the grapes dehydrate on the vine. This maturation process gives the grapes very unique flavours. When the temperature finally drops to minus 8 degrees, the grapes freeze and are ready to be picked and pressed. This happens very quickly, while the grapes are still frozen, allowing only the concentrated juice to be collected for the production of Icewine. This extremely sweet grape juice is then fermented and the final result is a delicious dessert wine. You can find Icewine made from several grape varietals: Vidal, Riesling, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, each one with its own unique flavour profile. White Icewine has aromas of tropical fruits, and red Icewine has intense berry aromas such as raspberry and strawberry. Wine enthusiasts return time and time again to sample each season’s new delights.
During the Icewine Festival you can:Stroll through Icewine Villages on the streets of Jordan and Niagara-on-the-Lake, where you can sip and sample your way through a carni-val of Icewine, food booths, music and ice sculptures.
Drink Icewine from an ice glass at Canada’s longest ice-bar.
Watch winemakers compete in the annual wine barrel roll or mixolo-gists compete for the Icewine cocktail trophy.
Attend the Icewine Gala in Niagara Falls.
Laugh the night away at the Icebreaker Comedy night.
Buy a discovery pass that gives you access to events at over 30 wineries that create their own in-house celebrations.

Winter is not only the prettiest time of year to visit Niagara Falls, but practically speaking, it can be more economical for meeting and events planners to plan their conferences during the winter, as both accommo-dations and attractions will be cheaper than in the busy tourist months.

Conference attendees often say the best part of any conference is the networking they got to take part in; and it makes sense, after all, what fun is it learning all these new and exciting things if you can’t discuss it with a colleague afterwards? Nightlife networking is breathing fresh energy back into corporate interaction. Taking your business out of the boardroom and out on the town can reenergize employees and improve innovation while allowing colleagues to bond without the intimidation factor of the boardroom.
There are numerous benefits to incorporating a networking event during your conference:
Brainstorming: the more brains the better! As people talk and engage, new solutions, ideas and ways of thinking will emerge.
Personal contact: there is nothing quite like talking to people face to face, regardless of how convenient the phone and email can be.
Recharging: going out after hours is a great time to compare notes and reinvigorate enthusiasm for projects.
This style of post work social collaboration can be vital for building trust and support; helping team members get to know each other on a personal level, which will ultimately increase engagement and leading to the better achievement of common goals.
Whether your team is looking to relax over great food or dance to a live band, Niagara Falls has a venue to help your teams connect.

An internationally respected golfer’s paradise, the Niagara Region boasts over 50 of the most beautifully tailored and artfully designed golf courses in the world – creating the greatest con-centration of golf facilities in a single region in Canada.
Here are some of our favourite highlights:
Revered as one of the highest rated golf courses in Canada, Whirlpool Golf Course is an 18-hole championship public course in the Niagara Region. With its intrinsic design dramatically situated next to the Niagara whirlpools and the prestige that accompanies
its 73 year heritage, Whirlpool makes for an impressive course for all experience levels to enjoy. The course features challenging designs by Canadian Golf Hall of Famer Stanley Thompson, one of Canada’s most accomplished and respected golf course architects. Known for his strategic design tactics, this course – the last he designed before his untimely death— reflects this thoughtful design tactic in its artfully crafted sand traps and bunkers.
A golfer’s dream, Legends on the Niagara Golf Complex has not one, but two exceptionally crafted 18-hole championship level golf courses. Resting on one thousand acres of natural turf, water hazards and sand traps, this natural setting is the ideal backdrop for your next
corporate event, team building excursion or business meeting. The impressive Battlefield course, designed by Canadian golf architect Douglas Carrick, fea-tures a challenging combination of wide, links style holes with generous fairways and greens that are bound by dense forest and brush. A classic parkland course, Ussher’s Creek is one of Canadian golf architect Thomas McBroom’s finest achievements; featuring thick stands of trees, wetland hazards, knee-high UN

fescue rough and impeccable conditioning from tee to green. Both courses feature four sets of tees catering to all levels and en-couraging play from the most novice golfer. Take a break from a day of meetings and squeeze in a round of golf; Legends 9-hole Chippawa course makes it easy to get on the greens and back to the boardroom within a few hours. “The authenticity of our courses, the quality of our designers, the extremely good value for the dollar; this is what separates our courses from the rest,” said Rick Janes from Whirlpool Golf Club and Legends of Niagara. “You will be very hard pressed to find three courses of this calibre concentrated in one particular area outside of Niagara.”If this wasn’t enough, the course is hailed for housing the best prac-tice facility in Canada – with a 45 acre driving range – and top class golf academy offering a full range lessons perfect for corporate groups looking to host golf based team building activities and clinics with em-ployees new to the game. Their expansive clubhouse is also ideal for groups looking for a meeting space outside of the off ice. Featuring small and large scale meeting rooms and an impressive formal boardroom avail-able for corporate rental, you don’t have to golf to enjoy the beauty of the facility. Courses offer special pricing and packages for groups of 20 or more wishing to play a round of golf or looking to host a tourna-ment for employees. All pricing is subject to inquiry.
A destination golf course, Thundering Water’s Golf Club is famed golfer John Daly’s first signature golf course in the country. Located in Niagara Falls’ tourist district, it is a mere
1,500 yards from the iconic Horseshoe Falls – and just as impressive. Sitting at a challenging par 72, this course is not to be taken lightly. Designed in collaboration with Canadian golf architect Bo Danoff, Thundering Waters combines nature’s tranquility with obstacle treach-ery with its sweeping fairways and sculpted bunkers all which combine for an enjoyable, game of golf. Ideal for team building activities, your team can test their accuracy and improve their game with world class fairways, water hazards and sand traps. The course tests your accuracy and offers a challenge for golfers to improve their game. Though difficult, the course is friendly to all golfers in your group of all skill level; Thundering Waters goal is to provide you with a quality experience that includes exceptional service and a comfortable atmosphere. Whether you are looking to enjoy a round of golf with your col-leagues or host a corporate tournament, Thundering Waters has the resources to assist in making your event memorable. Each standard group and tournament packages includes a personal event planner, as-sistance in event marketing, course set up, welcome gifts, discounts on merchandise, specialty contest holes and prizes, event video and photography and more. Niagara Falls is home to Canada’s longest standing complimentary fireworks show, which takes place every Friday and Saturday at 10pm, starting on Victoria day, going until Labour Day. After that, fireworks take place every Friday until the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend*. If your event is scheduled on a day with no fireworks, you can book a special fireworks display for your event through Niagara Parks for a small production fee. Fireworks make for a great finale to any event, and seeing them right over the Falls is a sight to behold! (*Subject to change) Either of these spectacular light shows is certain to leave your attendees with quite a memorable and lasting impression. For more information on either getting the Falls lit up in your corporate colours or arranging a specialized fireworks show, please call 905-371-0252 or visit niagarap-arksMeetings.com
…in the skySince the day Niagara Falls became a tourist destination, there have been attempts to try and light it up at night. It was first done in 1860, to celebrate a visit from the Prince of Wales. They were able to succeed in this il-lumination by using 200 coloured and white calcium, volcanic and torpedo lights, which were placed along the banks of the falls, as well as along the roadways and behind the water of the Horseshoe Falls. The lights were known as “Bengal” lights, and they were the same kind of lights that were used at sea to send signals or give warnings. When they used them on the Falls in combination with rockets, spinning wheels and other fire-works, it was said to be quite a spectacular sight. The Falls were first lit using electri-city in 1879, again to celebrate the visit of royal dignitaries. The lights at this time had the illumination power of 32,000 candles, which shines pretty dim when compared to the lights of today. In 1892, the lights were
lit with colour for the first time, with the use of gelatin plates, which were placed in front of the bulbs. These days, you don’t need to be of roy-al descent to experience the spectacle of the Falls lit up…in fact, we’ve kind of advanced in technology in the last 150 years, and now you can even choose to light up the Falls in the colours of your organization. The (Canadian and American) falls are illuminated every evening, year round, and any company is able to see their organization colours illuminated on the mighty Niagara Falls if it is prearranged in advance with the Niagara Parks Conference Sales Office. If you use one of the Niagara Parks restaurants (Elements on the Falls (Restaurant at Table Rock Centre) or (Victoria Park) Edgewaters Restaurant) for an aspect of your conference (welcome receptions, dinners, galas, etc.), this light show will even be complimentary for your group’s enjoyment!

MEETINGS IN CANADA – CROSSING THE BORDERThe first step in ensuring a successful entry process is to contact an International Events and Convention Services Program Coordinator (IECSP) nearest to the location where the event is taking place, one to six months prior to the event’s scheduled start date.
The coordinator will be able to assist and provide advice on what organizers need to know about bringing different events to Canada, including information on:
Letters of Recognition: a letter of introduction issued by the IECSP Coordinator that is presented to the Canadian Border Services Agency upon arrival in Canada to facilitate your entry process.
They can also assist you with border-related requirements, fee exemptions, information on moving goods from the Canadian border to the event venue, visitor Visa require-ments, duties and taxes.
The benefit of going through the IECSP is that it helps to facilitate and expedite the border clearance of people and goods coming into Canada for an event, and will minimize any delays. They can provide guidance and advice right from the planning stage to the closure of the event. They will help make organizers aware of any special tax incentives they may be entitled too that will help to reduce event costs.

Canada’s largest open air fashion and lifestyle outlet centre the Outlet Collection at Niagara is a destination within a destination. Offering fashions as breathtaking as the
Niagara sites, this unique shopping hot spot is one of the most exciting shopping destin-ations in the region. “We offer a completely different experience than a traditional mall,” said Carly Rupcic, Tourism Manager at Outlet Collection at Niagara. “The beautiful environment really has set us apart. We have put a large focus on making this a really beautiful atmosphere to not only shop in but visit and spend a day; because when people visit Niagara they don’t want to be cooped up inside. “We have gorgeous gardens and beautiful spaces where people can come and enjoy a real community like setting which is a lot different from an average mall,” said Rupcic. “We have live music on weekends, special events and celebrations and giveaways. We want our customers to be surprised and delighted while they are here.” Encouraging travelers to shop local, the Outlet Collection has created a shopping haven that hosts a variety of stores unique to the Region that are anything but ordinary. Offering new outlets alongside mall favourites like Lululemon, Bass Pro Shop, Davids Tea, White House Black Market and Chicos to name a few. New in Spring 2016, the Outlet Collection will welcome one of the first Sacs Fifth Avenue OFF 5TH stores in Canada to their block. The Outlet also pays homage to the Niagara wine region they reside in, hosting unique wine retailer Wine Country Vintners and two wine barrel walls created by barrels donated by local wineries. >>

Discover hidden treasures and unexpected delights within the winding shop filled streets of Niagara-on-the-Lake. From every-
day must-haves to those once-in-a-lifetime special finds, the walkable heritage district of Niagara-on-the-Lake is sure to offer a shopping experience unlike any other. A central part of the fabric of the Niagara community, Landmark Shops of Niagara-on-the-Lake – a small group of shop owners com-mitted to bettering the community as a unit – have come together to help reinforce the importance of working together in the region. Not only do the Landmark Shops of Niagara-on-the-Lake sell unique Niagara centric products, but offer shoppers a personal and educating shopping experience. “The majority of the shops are individually owned and operated by people with great passion for what they do,” said Janice Thomson, Executive Director at Niagara-on-the-Lake Chamber of Commerce & VCB. “They make shopping a really different experience than you would get from anywhere else.” “That’s what sets us apart; people are passionate about what they are doing and care about giving good service,” said Thomson. Shops you must not miss include culinary connoisseurs Cheese Secrets, the timeless Beau Chapeau Hat Shop, Niagara-on-the-Lake Jewellers and Precious Metal Studio and more. All are individually owned and operated by active members of the community who are committed to honing their crafts, understanding their products and contributing individual service and a true interest in their customers. “The owners of these stores are from the community and have ties to the area,” said Thomson. “The people working at the stores and running the businesses have a great knowledge of the region and the attractions offered. They have seen the Shaw shows, they have been to the wineries, and they are happy to lend advice to visitors.”
A unique fresh air shopping experience, Canada One Outlets fea-tures over 50 of the finest retailers in the Niagara Region – in-
cluding a number of Canadian exclusive brands and products. This exclusive variety of stores includes shoe and bag retailer Stance – distributor of Canadian brand Herschel Supply Company, a bag and accessories retailer –as well as timeless designer brand outlets including Roots, Coach and Nine West to name a few. Also new to the outdoor pavilion is Wicker Emporium – a wooden furniture and home décor store. Promoting an easily accessible shopping experience for all, Canada One Outlets has separated itself from competitors by creating an en-tirely wheel-chair and elderly accessible outdoor shopping centre for all to enjoy. “It is really a mall that is easy to shop,” said Marjorie Ruddy, Marketing Manager at Canada One Brand Name Outlets. “It is out-side, it’s not that large; you can park right in front of every store and just run right in. All curbs are rounded. It’s not like you’re parking in front of a mall entrance and then have to navigate. It is very accessible to everyone.” Along with its easy to navigate design, Ruddy says designers fo-cused on creating an airy, outdoor space for allowing shoppers to enjoy the fresh air while partaking in their favourite pastime. “With the wonderful weather that Niagara enjoys, you never want to be stuck inside a stuffy mall,” said Ruddy. “We have something that traditional malls just don’t have: you can enjoy the fresh air as you shop.”

GREG FREWIN THEATREGreg Frewin is one of Canada’s most mind-bend-ing magicians. He has won every major award in the world of magic including the Magician of the Year in the World Magic Awards in 2009 and first place at the International Brotherhood of Magicians competi-tion. He has performed on stages that span the globe and currently performs at the Greg Frewin Theatre in Niagara Falls.
His Vegas style show is sure to provide a jaw dropping magical experience for all who go to see it, and luckily for groups travelling to Niagara Falls, Greg Frewin is able to take his show on the road! Group and Corporate Sales Manager Natasha Cudbertson, notes, “Greg can add a touch of magic to any conference being held in any venue [barring some stage and sizing requirements if conference organizers want him to bring the tigers]. She continues, “he can customize the illusions and show to fit into the time slots open for the conference; this is a great addition to an opening night or before an awards dinner to add some entertainment to your event.”
If you wish to bring your group right to the theatre, the option is available to rent out the entire 750 venue. Natasha explains, “we offer great group pricing for the show for both a private rental or for smaller groups look-ing to come to an open show, as well as special meal and drink pricing.” Another alternative they offer is special discount codes to put in delegate welcome bags, which can be used for an open itinerary.
The Greg Frewin Theatre, which is a privately, family run facility, will do everything within their magical powers to make sure your delegates have an unforgettable time. Natasha says, “we are always will-ing to accommodate your groups individual needs. From the use of our in house AV to a built in dance floor in the lobby, to Greg integrating an idea or person from your organization, we can customize every aspect of the night to make it work for your individual needs.”
SHAW FESTIVAL THEATREThe Shaw Festival is located in Niagara-on-the-Lake, and according to their mandate, “the Shaw Festival is a theatre company inspired by the works of Bernard Shaw. We produce plays from and about his era and contem-porary plays that share Shaw’s provocative exploration of society and celebration of humanity.”
The Shaw Festival runs from April to October, and in the winter months, a film series is hosted there. The Shaw Festival has four different theatres: The Festival Theatre, which is where the large productions are done, The Court House Theatre, a national historic site, used for smaller productions, The Royal George Theatre,
originally used as a vaudeville house to entertain the troops, which is also a great venue for smaller plays, and the Studio Theatre, the smallest venue, and used for the most intimate productions.
The Shaw Festival offers group programing and pack-aging, as well as group theatre tours. Discounts are avail-able for groups of more than 15, and there are workshops and other fun activities your delegates can participate in. These include pre and post show chats with the actors and designers, backstage tours, on site dining and customized sessions for groups on areas such as: stage combat, accents, theatre makeup, improve, acting 101, costume design, and several more. Prices vary depending on activity. You can learn more about group options at the Shaw Festival by visiting shawfest.com

Group Sales Manager Ashley Auld notes that Oh Canada Eh? has, “meeting space available that can be rented out during the day, and we can host pre-show cocktail hours and host groups up to 250 for our dinner performance. We have inclusive group rates for groups of 15 and up.” The entire theatre can be rented out, as long as there is a minimum of 100 guests, and it can’t be rented out on a Friday or Saturday evening. NIAGARA FALLS TOURISM: Can you talk a bit about how you got started in magic? Did you perform magic as a child?
GREG FREWIN: “When I was 8, I got a magic kit for Christmas, because I had shown a little interest. I thought it was really cool, and I played and learned all the different tricks. When I was 12, my grandfather took me to see Doug Henning, and when I saw a live magic show for the first time, that’s the day I went, ok, this is what I want to do. From there, when I was about 14 or 15 years old, I met a gentleman at a magic club, who then took me under his wing and started teaching me and showing me the ropes of the real true, slight of hand and all that kind of cool stuff. So that’s how it all started.”
NFT: How do you come up with your illusions?
GF: “For the most part, I create most of my magic. In the magic com-munity, there’s a very good brotherhood of friendship. I think it’s because we have to keep things somewhat secret, so we are all on the same side. Sometimes, and I don’t want to sound like I dream it all the time, but I’ve had nights where I’ve been sleeping and I’ve dreamt something. But then the other times, I’ll just see something in life, I’ll be out somewhere and I’ll see something that is not even related to magic, and it might spark something. And I’ll go, ‘oh, that’s really cool, that’d be cool if I could…’ and I come up with an idea.”
NFT: And how long does that process take?
GF: “It can vary, but for the most part, you’re looking at two or three months of research and development at that point. I like to draw things out and play around with them. Years ago I learned 3D studio max, which is an editing program for 3D visual cartoons. I’ll put in an illu-sion and design it to look like it would on stage, to get an idea of what it is going to be like. Then the process of building it and creating it comes next, and that can take up to six months, because now you’ve thought of something, but how do you make that work, and work well? Sometimes it goes faster, and sometimes it doesn’t even get out of the garage.”
NFT: Do you have a favourite trick to perform?
GF: In an overall blanket, I really love working with the animals. When I was a kid, I always thought it would be cool to be a veterinarian, but the sight of blood and all that stuff just doesn’t work for me. I’m a wimp.”
NFT: Why did you choose tigers as the major animal in your act?
GF: “I got an opportunity about 18 years ago to meet a gentleman who works in the movie industry and I was going into Malaysia in a show and I pitched it to them and he came there and spent a year with me, and we worked hand on hand every day. He taught me throughout the whole year, how to work, train and take care of the animals, not only how to use them on stage, but also how to have them in your life. Because it’s not just about the show, I mean, it’s a 100%, every day job. If they don’t love you and there is not that bond, they are not going to do anything. You have to understand them. You really have to have that connection and it’s built up with time, effort put in and just that trust, that bond.”

The best way to get people excited about an upcoming conference? Open it with a bang! A once in a lifetime experience. The best
way to end a conference? Close it with an even bigger bang! The opening event sets the tone for the entire conference and helps get delegates pumped up and feeling highly productive for their upcom-ing meetings. The closing event should leave the delegates re-ener-gized, full of passion for their jobs and with fresh new ideas they just can’t wait to implement. Nowhere else in the world can deliver on these exhilarating openings and closings quite like Niagara. If it’s excitement you are looking for, we’ve got something for you. For Rendez-Vous Canada, which happened in May of 2015, the welcoming ceremony began at the Niagara Parks Table Rock Centre, which offered guests not only a spectacular view, but also the chance to go on “Niagara’s Fury” and “Journey Behind the Falls”. As the sun began to set, guests were ushered down to Hornblower Niagara Cruises, where they boarded one of their state of the art catamaran boats to get up close and personal with the mighty Niagara Falls. After that, a fireworks display lit up the sky behind the falls. Once back on
shore, guests danced the night away. Now that’s a night to remember. Why limit yourself to just one venue? One of the best parts of host-ing an event in Niagara Falls is that everything is close together, so transportation isn’t any trouble. A quick ride on the WEGO, or a short-guided walk if it’s nice out, will have your group moving from place to place with little hassle. Niagara has three venues in particular that just can’t be matched when it comes to putting on memorable opening and closing events:
NIAGARA PARKS TABLE ROCK CENTRELooking for a spectacular landmark venue that sits quite literally on the edge of the falls? Incorporate the Flavour of the Destination into your conference at the Niagara Parks Table Rock Centre that is as close as you can get, without getting wet! In addition to being home to some of the Falls’ best attractions, this venue offers an unparalleled view of the thundering waters from the scenic Elements on the Falls Restaurant. What better backdrop for an event? Attendees will savour the Signature Flavour of Niagara Food & Wine experience and it gets even better as Niagara Parks creates a special wow by illuminating the Falls in your

organization colours complimentary during your event. Include the Journey Behind the Falls Phantom of the Tunnels attraction and the Phantom costume character will greet your attendees in the candle lit tunnels while enjoying background music. Tie in the Falls Fireworks for an extra special grand finale! Table Rock Centre is fully accessible and open year round.
HORNBLOWER CRUISESExperience the thrill of an up-close connection with the mighty Horseshoe Falls on a Hornblower Niagara Cruise. The sheer power of the water will take your breath away and provide an instant wow factor to any event. Choose from the iconic Voyage to the Falls Boat Tour or ex-perience the awesome Niagara Falls under the dazzling stars aboard the fully-licensed Falls Illumination or Falls Fireworks Cruises. Hornblower Niagara Cruises hosts Niagara’s newest awe inspiring event venue, nes-tled in the Great Gorge with one-of-a-kind views of this natural wonder, combined with a cruise of your choice we promise your guests have never experienced the Falls quite like this. Hornblower has taken Niagara’s famous boat tour to a whole new level.
FALLSVIEW CASINOWhether you have a grand cocktail reception in mind or a more intim-ate affair, there is the perfect spot at the casino. There are numerous lounges, restaurants and even a Grand Hall that are perfect for hosting those one of a kind openings and closings. The Grand Hall is perfect for any kind of large-scale event you can imagine; with a space of almost 30,000 square feet, there is lots of room for creativity. The marketing department at the casino is especially gifted at creating exceptional events, as demonstrated at the Canadian Society of Association Executives national confer-ence this past year. The Grand Hall was transformed into a “Haunted Mansion”, com-plete with spooky centrepieces, gothic furniture and oodles of skulls, spider webs, ravens and of course, costumes. If you can dream it up, the team at Fallsview can make it a reality.
When it comes to putting on memorable opening and closing events, look no further than Niagara, from the fantastic to the fun to the fanciful, we’ve got you covered.

Rendez-Vous Canada (RVC) is Canada’s premiere inter-national tourism marketplace. Lead by the Canadian Tourism Commission, RVC connects international buyers with Canadian sellers of tourism products. Each year, it is held in a different Canadian city, and this year, for the first time ever, it was held in Niagara Falls. The city played host to approximately 1,600 leaders in the tourism industry, and according to David Goldstein, President and CEO of Destination Canada, the conference was “one of the best events in our history” (the event has been running for 39 years).
Rendez-Vous Canada is a huge event for tour operators and wholesalers from all around the globe, and events such as this greatly help to increase Canada’s tourism appeal. Over the
course of the event there were 24,000 pre-scheduled face-to-face business appointments with over 900 Canadian sellers of tourism experiences and products from coast to coast.
The conference was held primarily at the Scotiabank Convention Centre with offsite events taking place through-out Niagara Falls and the rest of the Region. “RVC gave Niagara an opportunity to really shine, as most people are unfamiliar with everything it offers, beyond our most famous natural asset,” says Vittoria Wikston of Niagara Falls Tourism. “All 12 Regions of Niagara came together to offer Regional tours, five different wineries came together to exe-cute Niagara Night, and over 30 buses were used to provide the mass movement out of Niagara Falls to wine country. All

of our transportation providers worked as one supplier.” She continues on to say there have been no other events to date that “involved such regional partnerships and pageantry.” The planning process for an event of this scale is immense, and it involved a very dedicated committee, a destination marketing company, funding partners, and a minimum of 300 volunteers, all working together to really make Niagara shine.
Carrie Paolone, Director of Events at the Scotiabank Convention Centre, notes that this event “proved to be the perfect example of what a true city-wide event looks like.” Requiring the involvement and cooper-ation of many municipal and regional partners under the direction of Niagara Falls Tourism, “this event was quite the concerted undertaking and everyone pulled equally ensuring an undeniably successful execu-tion,” Carrie explains.
The conference offered buyers the chance to participate in a wide variety of activities and day trips throughout the Region. Choices for guests included: shopping excursions, Regional tours, food and wine tours, historical tours, adventure hiking and jetboating, golfing, cyc-ling, tree planting, horseback riding, a magic show, and live theatre. All of the activities were chosen specifically to highlight lesser aspects of the Niagara Region.
Sanat Kumar Hegde, a travel buyer from India, told the Niagara Falls Review that attending Rendez-Vous Canada was his first time visiting Canada, and that it was “one of the best experiences I have had in my life. The wineries, the cuisine, everything. It’s unbelievable.” Magda Nassar, a buyer from Brazil told the newspaper, “I love Niagara Falls, it’s a cozy city. Of course the Falls are the big hit, but there is so much more that the Region has to offer.”
During the conference, one of the highlights was “Niagara Night”, an evening of culinary delights expertly paired with locally grown wines bringing buyers up close and personal with the world-renowned Niagara Wine Country hospitality. The food and wine scene in this area is
unparalleled: nowhere else in the world will you find such an authentic presentation of farm-to-table paired with homegrown wines. Niagara Night saw numerous wineries working in tandem with each other in order to accommodate the vast number of delegates at the event.
Michelle Bosc of Château des Charmes winery notes, “for Rendez-Vous Canada there were 1500 guests for Niagara Night. Several prop-erties worked together to produce similar events at each individual property but coordinated as a whole. So while the personal flair from each property shone through, each guest experienced the same qual-ity event, meal, entertainment etc. It took months of planning but it worked very well.”
The success of Rendez-Vous Canada 2015 proved that the possibil-ities of this world- class destination to make events and conferences truly memorable and one of a kind are endless. Whether it’s adventure, food and wine, history, or nature, it’s here in Niagara. Any kind of event you are imagining…the team here in Niagara can pull it off.
PROVED TO BE THE PERFECT EXAMPLE OF WHAT A TRUE CITY-WIDE EVENT LOOKS LIKE.

FORT GEORGEThis historic landmark served as the headquar-ters for the Centre Division of the British army during the War of 1812. These forces were made up of British soldiers, local militia, Aboriginal warriors and freed slaves. It was built between 1796 and 1802, and though most of the build-ings were reconstructed in the 1930s, Fort George is where the War of 1812 comes to life. More information: friendsoffortgeorge.ca
WILLOWBANKThis beautiful estate located on the Niagara Parkway, is the perfect example of the type of house a wealthy settler might have had in 19th Century Upper Canada. The house was originally built for the Hamilton family and currently functions as a school for the restora-tive arts. Willowbank is available to rent for conferences and meetings. More information is available at willowbank.ca
MCFARLAND HOUSEThis beautiful home is particularly historic-ally significant because it survived the burn-ing of Newark (Niagara-on-the-Lake), which makes it one of the oldest buildings in the area. During the War of 1812, the house was used as a hospital for injured soldiers. It was left in disarray after the war, but was restored in 1939. It remains a depiction of what life was like in Niagara from 1800 to 1830. For information on booking McFarlane House for a conference or event, visit niagaraparksMeetings.com
OLD FORT ERIEOld Fort Erie shares memories of the bloody battle that once raged there; in fact, it is known as “Canada’s Bloodiest Battlefield”, and though it was ruined by the end of the war, it was reconstructed in the 1930s. For more info on occupying Old Fort Erie for a conference or event, visit niagaraparksMeetings.com

The Niagara area has a long and storied past lining the pages of it’s history books; everything from melting glaciers creating the most unique landscape in the country, to the underground railroad assisting escaping slaves, to bloody battles destroying entire towns during the War of 1812.
To appease the history nerd in us all, we’ve complied a list of historical venues in the Region that cater to large group events. If only these walls could talk! Add your event to the conversation.

NIAGARA FALLS HISTORICAL MUSEUMThe museum itself is located in a historic building that was built in 1874, and used to house the Stamford Town Hall. The museum is full of Niagara Falls history, and has engaging exhibits on a year round basis. There is a space available for meetings and events, which can hold up to 70 people. More information is available at niagarafallsmuseums.ca
QUEENSTON HEIGHTS/BROCK MONUMENTThis is the site of one of the most famous battles in the War of 1812. It was also the spot where Sir Isaac Brock was killed in action (there is a monument there that you can climb for a spectacular view of the area). This is a great place for confer-ence events, you can even arrange for a heritage soldier musket-eer demonstration, which can also be combined with dining in the Queenston Heights restaurant. “On behalf of the Canadian Urological Asso-ciation (CUA) I would like to thank you and your team for your contribution to making the 68th Annual Meeting of the CUA a tre-mendous success.
The CUA Annual Meeting hosted some 1000 participants at the Sheraton on the Falls Hotel. The venue was perfect for a meeting of our size, the staff was very responsive, the service was excellent and the meeting cost was extremely low. All of these factors contributed to a very successful meeting especially form a financial point of view.
Our fun night was very well received by our guests at Table Rock Elements-on-the-Falls. The 600 plus participants enjoyed good food and a magnificent view of the Falls, which were illuminated in our com-pany’s colours at 10:00pm and happened to be followed by fireworks given the event was on a Sunday evening.
The President’s closing banquet was held at the Sheraton on the Falls and the staff was incredible given the tight two hour turnaround time to create a spectacular setting to our 400 plus guests for a themed dinner.
While the urologists were hesitant at first to host an event in Niagara Falls given its asso-ciation with “honeymooners” and “the Vegas of Canada”, they were all pleasantly surprised at how amazing the event was and have sent numerous letters congratulating us on the suc-cess of our meeting.
Thank you for your hospitality and I look for-ward to working with your team in the future.”
